Looking for a New Computer Chair - ~ $300

I have had this classic chair for the past 2 years. It's okay but the flaking of the material is out of hand now. You get what you pay for.

Now I have realised that I do need a decent chair considering I spend easily 8-10 hours a day studying/gaming/watching movies.

I am happy to go above budget if it's justifiable haha

I just upgraded my office chair a few weeks back and got a Professional Racer Chair from officework: https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/profession…

I know that it seems kind of wanky, but this is a seriously good chair. Nice and firm in the right places, high back. I really enjoy it.

I have wide shoulders and find this chair to be perfect.

Secondhand is your best bet. Look through Gumtree or eBay.
    Herman Miller aeron, mirra
    Steelcase leap
    Haworth zody, lively
    Ergohuman

    • I was looking at this chair. What are your thoughts?

      • Not much knowledge on ergohuman. Read and heard good things thoough. What is your budget?

        • Will im wondering if that's a steak like is that chair actually regularly 900. Im 120kg, 6ft tall so I need something that's durable. I hate buying cheap office chairs because it's usually the tilt tends to break and not stay locked as well as gas lifts squeeking. So paying 600 for a chair that can last 5+years is better than paying 200for ones that last at most 2 years sometimes not even 1 yr

        • @kingnunu: did you have a look on gumtree? For your weight a Steelcase leap would be the best bet.

If you want to, get an AKracing gaming chair, i got one last year and it's seriously comfortable. They are also on sale often, i got my chair for 300 or 330, i cant remember.

    • I have the exact same chair but a different brand. Do you find that sometimes when you lean in the chair slips out from the back?

      • AKRacing don't make chairs for any other brand

        • AKRacing buys the generic unbranded chair on Alibaba then rebrands it as there own and put a different material on top. Many other sellers do this and are able to profit over $200 for a chair that only cost $99 or lower depending on how much stock you want to buy.

AKRacing literally make their chairs in their own factories as shown in the image above. Same with DXRacer. Smaller gaming chair companies like Secretlab, Corsair, Noblechairs however use OEMs. The chairs look very similar because a lot of the chairs are 'imitations' of the DXRacer/AKRacing chairs, but they still have distinct differences.

        • @shot: They have a factory. But that does not mean that make all the parts. Parts are imported and then logos and packaging are done at AKRacing factory. It's like Xiaomi Products. You can find the unbranded generic version on manufacture website or whole sellers website.

        • @No Username: I see what you are getting at, but literally the same thing happens in many different industries. Some of the smaller brands may cheapen out on certain parts (cheaper foam) to reach a lower price point though, so be aware of that.

  • I had the same Officeworks Bathurst chair and mine flaked and the foam went all flat. Replaced it with an AK Racing K7, it's got a metal frame and the same type of foam used in car seats. Went for a cloth seat as real leather seats were too expensive and the pleather ones always end up peeling and flaking.

https://www.ak-racing.com.au/computer-gaming-chairs-australi… it's cheaper to get it from their eBay store as you can make an offer for the item.

  • https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/profession… $249

The HM Aeron would be good, but even second hand they are 800-900 with arm rests. They do have a sale on at moment at the proper store for like $1300 I think.

    • I have an Aeron at work and the Herman Miller Sayl chair at home. The Sayl is half the price and I think just as comfy, plus it's a lot more stylish IMO.

  • https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/profession… $297

If you don't need that gamer look, I feel this chair really does the job well!

Reviews say something about it being for big people but I'm 175cm/75kg and I've got no problem with it.

  • Can't go wrong with Ergohuman. Bit out of price range but I picked one up with headrest for $280 on Gumtree second hand.

  • ikea markus. don't get any sort of "racer" chair, they're all PU leather and will fall apart after a year (basically what @yippy is describing).

  • My office uses the Humanscale Liberty Mesh Office Chair, which I find quite comfortable. To a point where I have purchase a second hand one myself off eBay. You can generally find used good condition ones on eBay on Gumtree for approximately $300+/-. If buying on eBay, I think there are a few discount codes floating around at the moment.

  • I can recommend Jasonl.com.au

I bought mine from them about 8 or 9 years ago… the fabric and memory foam still feel like new.
