[Nintendo Switch] Overcooked - $15.60 @ Nintendo eShop

1540

I thought this needed it's own post because I saw no mention of it on any of the other deals and lists. It seems to have went on sale a bit later than all the other games.

EDIT: You can't buy eShop games online. Only on the eShop! Sorry for not adding that earlier

        • +9

          Locate Overcooked
          Purchase Overcooked

      • +1

Why are you getting in my way?

        I'm chopping.

Don't chop in the choke-point of the level, I can't get through. Aaargh! The kitchen is on fire!

      • That’s exactly the reaction everyone has!

  • +6

    Overcooked 2 is coming soon!

    • August 7 i think. Its going to be $40 though and not sure what the changes are. More of the same will be great of course, but it might be one I wait on a sale for.

      • I think theres going to be online crew cook off.

      • +1

Online multiplayer, and you can throw ingredients, were the main changes I believe.

      • +1

There’s a heck of a lot more recipes. And throwing ingredients as mentioned.

    • oh god whyyyyyyyyyy

  • +1

I've heard this is one of the better offline co-op Switch titles. Might have to check it out.

    • +21

The game is awesome with a few friends and drinks. My wife and I play and give another controller to our 5 y.o. daughter. It's hilarious. You get to scream "HURRY UP AND DO THE DISHES" at your wife which is pretty much the only opportunity can get away with something like that.

  • How does Multiplayer work for over cooked? Can I play with my friends in handheld mode on my switch, whilst they play on theirs? (confused with the different names for multiplayer modes for switch..)

Also curious about rocket league multiplayer mode if any one knows?

    • according to co-optimus, no online co-op for overcooked :(

and rocket league, you can definitely play online

    • Overcooked does not have any networking abilities to allow 2 copies of the games to communicate with each other, so no you can't play on the switch with your friend playing on their own, you will both need to play on the one switch and use a controller each.

Developers have listened, and with Overcooked 2, it will have the ability to play together on multiple switches networked together.

    • Rocket League when the switch is out of its dock, allows 2 players at the same time on one switch. I think docked allows upto 4.

Havent tried switch to switch undocked.

  • Best game to argue over with the spouse!

    • +1

      Soon to be ex-spouse.

      • Can't be worse than competitive Mario party

        • Aren't we all prepared for that next year?

        • @Wonderfool: just need a deal on relationship counseling before then

  • +1

Is it just the UK? I can't check right now

    • definitely for Australia and the US as well

    • I also can't proceed to check out, it says: "You cannot purchase this content, because the country associated with your Nintendo Account, or the country associated with your Nintendo Network ID in the case of Wii U or Nintendo 3DS family systems, is not supported on this website."

  • +2

Looks like Australia is the cheapest worldwide for once!
    https://eshop-prices.com/games/199-overcooked-special-editio…

    • +1

Also, just be aware that the US prices are artificially low on that site, because they don't include sales tax.

I've got a US and Australian Switch account, as I split my time between the two countries. When I buy games or add eShop credit on the US account (California), I pay sales tax on top of the listed price of 8.5%. In Australia, tax is included.

Sales tax varies from state to state in the US, but most people are going to be paying some on top of the eShop price.

So, basically, take the listed US prices with a grain of salt. Users in most states actually pay more than that. This can sometimes tip the balance and make it cheaper to get the game on my Australian account.

      • Cant you set up your US Nintendo account to a state without tax?

This guide says to use zipcode '97330'
        https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/63dc6k/psa_…

      • Why did you setup your US account to be California instead of tax free states are like Oregon?

        • +1

Because my house is in California, and I don't feel like engaging in tax fraud just to save a few dollars.

        • +1

@marlor: Well then I guess all US forwarders are engaging in tax fraud. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

        • @Letrico:

The Californian sales tax system works on a basis of "use taxing". You are meant to pay tax based on the state in which you use the item. If that is California, then you pay Californian sales tax. If you're just a shipping forwarder, then there's no "use" to tax.

Under the Californian state tax code, you're meant to declare any items you received tax-free (e.g. that shipped from a store that didn't charge sales tax) on your state income tax forms for that year. Most people don't, but it's something you can be randomly audited on, and Californian authorities are going after big retailers that don't charge sales tax to get a list of their customers, so they can perform such audits more effectively.

So, buying tax-free from interstate, or setting your address for digital purposes to be in a tax-free state, are things you can probably get away with… but for the amounts of money involved, I won't bother. Particularly given that with my constant travel between countries, I'm probably a prime candidate for an audit.

        • @marlor: Still beside the point. How would they audit you are not using payment option that is not from America, unless you tell you that you don't have Australia bank account with a debit/credit card or US based credit card.

Not to mention if you are currently residing in Australia, why are you paying even trying to pay American tax?

Just like Australians can claim tax from their purchase from Australia when they are going overseas, US purchases to Australia is tax free too. Not to mention how would they audit you if you purchase it with payment from Australia Banking Institution when you are residing in Australia?

Unless of course you are purchasing with your American credit card while residing in Australia with the intention to get audited.

        • @Letrico:

My American account is linked to my American credit card.

I split my time 50/50 between Australia and California. Some years I pay as a resident in one country, some years in the other.

        • @marlor: Understandable but you are also open to the option to purchase it when you reside in Australia and not pay the tax. In the most legal way, you can purchase eshop credits with Australia cards and topup your US account for purchases. Then you are definitely not avoiding tax as you are purchasing as Australian.

I feel it is such a loss for you to pay the tax as you are not purchasing within the state and using it there.

        • @Letrico: >Not to mention how would they audit you if you purchase it with payment from Australia Banking Institution when you are residing in Australia?

Don't closely allied countries have agreements where the tax authorities can snoop about their citizens?

  • Dammit… I'd much prefer the physical version but this is very tempting…

    • +1

      yep same!

I'm hoping with the release of Overcooked 2, the first one gets some nice discounting and people flogging secondhand copies for cheap! (Well fingers crossed!)

    • +1

This is a game that makes sense as a digital title. You can play it quickly as a filler in between meatier games, without needing to get up and change the cartridge.

      • I see your point, but with Overcooked 2 coming out, I'd likely just resell 1, which would help recoup costs. At this price that does become less significant - but that is why I've got a physical collection instead of digital.

Loaning to family/friends (so they can practice chopping) etc was another factor thats still important to me though

      • For me it's the opposite - it's the type of game I would bring out for a multiplayer session at small gatherings, or would sit down for a gaming session with my partner. For me, it's not really a filler title.

Also, it's the type of game I would bring to the house of someone with a Switch to play, to save me having to bring my own Switch.

But each to their own of course!

    • I have an ebay alert on for any listing of it used but they are all like $45. I just got the digital instead.

  • +1

Just signed up to a Nintendo account as I bought a switch the other day.

Saying I cannot purchase as my account is configured for Australia. Is there an easy way around this? Would changing the country work?

    • you can't buy games on the eShop 'online'. you have to get them through the eShop on your Switch for Australia

      • Thanks! I have so much to learn. I take this to mean that there is an online store on the Switch and it'll be available through there?

        • +1

Yeah! Should be the second icon next to news on your Switch home screen

        • +2

          @zero23:

Thanks, Zero23. Can't wait to get it :)

        • @Gharvey Snruff: also (assuming you're new), remember to claim the points off your physical cartridges to save more money!

        • @zero23: I am new. I'll look this up. Thanks for the advice 😊

        • +1

          @Gharvey Snruff:

The big gotcha is that you can only claim within the first year of the game's release date - ie. If Overcooked was released Jan 1, 2018, then you can only redeem points up until Dec 31, 2018 - even if you buy a brand new copy on Jan 2, 2019.

  • +6

According to the Nintendo site, the sale ends on 21/6, which is the same day the Big W toy catalogue starts, with 10% off eShop gift cards!

I guess if you can do it all on the same day, you’ll get it for $14.04

    • +1

      Thanks, saved me checking dates

  • +1

Bought this morning. Can't wait to play it with the Mrs. Let the chaos ensue.

    • Sounds good but I convinced my wife to watch the fifa instead. Maybe I'll save the cooking for a little later.

  • Anyone know how to set up email alerts for any game i "add to my wishlist" on the eshop?
I thought it was like steam and would email me discounts for games im watching.

Also thanks for the post i just picked this up.

  • Is this game fun for only 2 players? Or do you need 3-4?

    • It is fun with 2 players. 3-4 introduces the true chaos, though.

      • I played it when it was released and the frame rate goes pretty bad when there are 4 players. Not sure if they fixed it yet?

    • in my opinion, it varies. we found different level have different optimal numbers. most levels works with 2-4, but some level we found are easier to 3 stars with specific numbers.

this could also be how well we work together, and the score requirements for different player numbers.

My wife and I like this game but I am so terrible at it. All the micromanagement seems to go right over my head, then suddenly everything is on fire and the floor keeps moving around and there's dishes to do and the orders are being cancelled left right and centre…

    • Just like a real kitchen!

  • Can you preorder a digital version of Overcooked2? Couldn't find it on eshop, but I'm not great at navigating the shop. I've seen you can preorder at Gamesmen for about $50. By the way, this deal is great, best switch game for our family and everyone gets involved.

  • My wife and I loved playing this game together. We 3-starred everything in one day. Can anyone recommend another co-op game? Thanks.

    • Any tips? I cannot get enough stars to open one of the stages (played with 2-3 players). Haven't played since.

      • This may not help, but maybe try playing with less or more players? The target score changes based on how many players, plus naturally some levels work better with less/more players. Otherwise, what is the lowest level you are struggling with?

      • +1

Communication is key and have a strategy for each level. Identify the sticking points and figure out a solution. I have to say that my wife and I played a lot of games growing up so that helped too.

    • +1

Have you try death square? It has a demo version for you to try and play…. I though this is quite a fun co-op puzzle game. And it’s made by a local!

  • Downloaded it tonight for PS4.

My two girls spent the next three hours laughing, shouting and screaming at each other.

    Fun game!

  • thanks for this, been looking out for a good price.
