Things to Buy at Amazon US before It's Too Late?

I'm planning to make some purchases from the Amazon US store in anticipation of the fact that it will soon be unavailable from Australia.

Does anyone have ideas of things that it would make sense to buy now while the going is good? (Or ideas of how to access Amazon US in the future?)

I'm planning to pick up some Clarks Dessert Boots which are much cheaper from Amazon than in Australia.

Get a USA mail forwarding address and set up a VPN with shipping to the USA address. However your purchases will still attract the GST on the goods plus shipping cost

    • Also, the shipping charge is likely to be higher than if shipping directly from Amazon (well, at least before 30/6).

    • AusPost offers this service now, called ShopMate. (https://shopmate.auspost.com.au/)

      • With AusPost you will still need a VPN to get around Amazon USA geo-blocking Aussies from their site.

      • As long as you are ok overpaying then yeah, use Shopmate

they only "repackage" items over a certain size (fee involved)… translation: We repack everything

The service is run by Singapore Post and resold by Aus Post so if you have issues, do not expect a quick resolution.

My advice as someone who used them (three times , gave them a chance) DO NOT USE THEM

        • I use shop meet regularly and they always answer emails within 24 hours by an Australian sounding person they generally always stick to their delivery time but not always

  • Just look at items you are interested in on the usa site, and compare prices to the aus site. atm i was looking at casio watches and the difference is 2x the price.

rakuten US website is rubbing their hands together

    • Can't remember ever seeing them listed on OzB, need worthy deals even with the Hervey tax.

    • wait, i thought all overseas sites need to enforce gst.

'dessert' boots might be made of meringue and liquorice.

  • What not to buy is anything from Harvey Norman, this is all his fault

  • VR headsets. They are more than double the price here.

  • Does gst get applied to orders made before July 1 but received after July 1? I'm still waiting for some parcels from Amazon US and ebay oversees sellers.

  • Also this site says https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/trav/impo/buyi

"From 1 July 2018, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) may apply to low value goods when imported from overseas by consumers in Australia. However, the GST will be charged at the point of sale and not at the border."

So if point of sale didn't change you, you don't have to pay GST?
