whats so special about 18-June? I've seen a few sales marking the occasion.

Its one of the larger chinese public holidays.
Officially called: 端午节 (Duan Wu Jie) or in english: Dragon Boat Festival

Other names colloquial names that it goes by would be "Zhong Jie", which is named after a traditional food "Zhong" which is consumed during this time. Zhong is made up of banana leaves with rice inside them. It may contain other things such as meats.

      • Ah cheers. The chinese love a good holiday, just like us.

Apparently it's the birthday of JD.com.
Also it happens to be the anniversary of the ascension of Li Yuan to Emperor Gaozu of Tang in the year 618, initiating three centuries of Tang dynasty rule over China.

      • Ah so JD are hoping to have an ascention over Alibaba, initiating three centuries of JDynasty rule over e-shopping globally.

  • This is great news. I've always wanted to buy stuff from taobao but the shipping fees were to expensive. Better go shopping now

  • Where does it say anything about fixed rate shipping? Can't seem to find it…

I don't believe it is a fixed shipping, I believe the OP is wrong. The webpage when you attempt to buy an item implies it gets sent to Australia but it doesn't mean that.

Taobao / Tmall works like this:
      1. Items sent to a "package forwarding / distribution center"
      2. You get to consolidate your packages (basically they throw all of it into a box / bag and send it, they do not remove packaging!)
      3. Their courier is 4PX, you can either send it to one of their local parcel points or send it directly to your home.
It is faster to send to a parcel point and slightly cheaper than sending it to your home.

Your shipping from China to Melbourne will be charged by 4PX and this is calculated on weight.
Annoying thing is, you cannot calculate the onwards shipping from China to Australia before buying an item. They only give you a price once the item arrives at their distribution center after they weigh the package and give you a exact weight.

    • Oh man 😑

My understanding is, you're right about the 4PX guys. However, the shipping fee should be CAPPED at RMB19.90 according to their T&Cs here: https://ts.tmall.com/wow/signature/act/ausqgl?spm=a211ko.113…

Just take note that it is for sea shipping only! Chinese pros welcome to jump in here :)

        • Had a friend read the conditions. Yes, you are right. its capped at RMB 19.90 PER STORE and only for TMALL stores and not TAOBAO sellers… bummer

Why does this guy have so many tiny clothes?

  • My feedback from this sale… I tried to buy a couple of wardrobe (marked as in stock) hoping to take advantage of the capped shipping. For unknown reasons, it didn't allow me to purchase them. When I tried to buy small like a USB hub… It went through ok. My friend tried on his account and same thing happened.

So much for capped shipping. Dodgy as.
