I shared this on my site earlier but then saw it wasn't on ozbargain yet, so sharing the love. Particularly if you're in Sydney on Friday…

Velocity Frequent Flyer is bringing back its hugely popular 1 Point Rewards promotion for 2025 – but with a twist. This time, it’s in-store only at exclusive pop-up locations in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne.

The campaign, famous for letting members redeem just 1 Velocity Point for premium rewards, has been one of the most talked-about loyalty promos in Australia. Now, it’s moving offline in a bid to avoid last year’s online chaos.

📍 Pop-Up Store Locations & Dates

Velocity will open 1 Point Rewards pop-up shops at:

Sydney: 8am, 22 August – 253 Pitt Street

Brisbane: Early September (TBC)

Melbourne: Late September (TBC)

Each location will run for a limited time with strictly limited stock. Once items sell out, that’s it.

🎁 What Can You Get for Just 1 Point?

Velocity isn’t messing around – rewards span tech, beauty, travel, and lifestyle with serious high-value gear up for grabs:

💨 Dyson Airwrap – $849

🛏️ Sheridan Egyptian Cotton Sheet Set – $379.99

🛁 Sheridan Aven Towelling Robe – $169

😷 WellCare LED Face Mask – $399

🧳 Delsey Anvers Val Suitcase – $299.99

🌸 Prada Beauty Paradoxe Parfum – $215

🐎 Burberry Hero Parfum – $249

🍖 Weber Baby Q – $369

🎧 Bose QuietComfort SC Headphones – $549.95

Not bad for 1 point.

Is this effective a competition? You'll probably see people camping in the street to get this crap

    • People may even expend their points to fly interstate to get it?

    • 1 whole point? i would prefer 1 whole bitcoin instead :D

  • +2

How early do I need to get there to get something decent?

    • +11

2 days before the promo starts.

  • +33

I'm pretty certain this is going to be a complete shit fight with the usual suspects getting in everyone else's personal space.

    • +2

      usual suspects

      Lmao

    • +3

So, on-brand for Virgin then!? 👍

    • -1

      who are said usual suspects?

    • +1

      Who are the usual suspects?

      • +9

        Keyser Soze

      • -1

Even if people want to be jelly or racist here.. let’s not forget the real issues the drugs and criminal problems caused majority white peoples 😂

  • +21

I'd prefer the online shit show to the IRl shit show. Easier to sleep off my disappointment at home than in a crowded public spot.

  • +6

Link to last year's chaos please

    • +5

      2 years ago. Victoria

      • Wow didn't even know this happened!

So there was an online version previously, and this year strictly in person only…boo!

  • +12

For reference, in Melbourne 2023 people camped outside the night before, eventually forming a 2+ hour line that stretched blocks by morning. There was nothing but one-way domestic flights by 1pm.

  • +9

    Heading to camp there now.

  • +54

There are only two winners here: the people who get something decent and the people who close this tab on their browser and never think about this again.

    • +6

      I’m a winner! (Bye)

    • +2

Truer words have never been said! Time to head into work

  • +6

A bit surprised to see this explicitly mentioned in T&C's

Velocity members who are Virgin Australia Group employees or contractors, and their respective immediate families, are eligible to obtain 1 Point Rewards.

    • The team member who set this up used to work at Dick Smiths, when they closed down.

    • +1

Virgin are just getting more efficient! Rather than everything being gone 2 minutes after the store opens they'll be gone 5 minutes BEFORE it opens as the store staff will have bought everything themselves.

  • In the age of pokemon tcg and labubu scalping market, this will not go down well lol

  • -1

imma say it. f8k this sh8t im out

  • ☔️⛺️🌙

  • Why not do a storewide discount online instead to a reasonable amount? I reckon people would actually be interested in spending more of their points

    • -1

Qantas has them all the time. You'll still get people saying not effective use of points.

  • I suppose ignoring the other capitals is a kindness…

  • I did this in Melbourne last time they did it. I got there early and was like 500th in line. The bloke who was first in line and got the eyephone slept on the street. I certainly can’t do that and I would imagine that not everyone would be brave enough to either. The position in line should be determined by lottery IMO. Makes it fair and everyone gets to sleep in their own beds.

    • what did you get

      • One way flight i think.

        • +2

Correct I got the one way flight (there was only this prize left and a few drebs like a fruit bowl and electric toothbrush). We had to spin a wheel and the destination was Hobart. Sadly never got to use it before expiry

          • @kosh52: Gee. The online version was better; could go anywhere domestically in Economy Class X bar blackout dates from the nearest home port. (I used mine to go to Brisbane), with 12 months to use it

  • +3

They could at least hold it in summer, so you didnt succumb to hypothermia while queuing

  • I need a photo from someone in the queue..

  • +1

Checking in… it’s 3.30am and there’s ~20 people in line. Only one person brought a tent. I’m gunning for the Dyson Airwrap.

    • Good luck

    • +2

Sorry I’m the tent guy and the airwrap is mine 😈

    • Did you manage to get an Airwrap? I heard there’s supposed to be multiple of each product available.

      • +1

        I don’t wanna talk about it 🫠

        • But we're curious. What did you get in the end?

      • +3

I was the second person in the queue (got there at 5:30pm the day before) and pitched a tent which I ended up getting around 4-5 hours of sleep so it wasn’t too bad. I ended up getting an airwrap, which had around 5-10 up for grabs.

        • +1

Good on you. I'm bald so I didn't need an airwrap and so instead I slept. Personally, I respect the tent. If you're going to do it, do it properly.

  • I think it's about 30 now!

  • Line was up to the Hilton driveway when I arrived maybe 30 mins ago or so?

  • It 6:10 and the line is pitt and park st

  • The queue is moving very very slowly. I'm near "The Galleries" entrance and been in the queue for over 2 hours. Overheard someone say they are only letting 3 people into the store at a time.

    • How long is the queue behind you?

      • +1

@Deal Hunting quite long but I feel like people are going to start to leave the queue. I'm planning to leave soon after 10 am. I doubt I'll get in.

  • The claw machine is not too much of a surprise as you can kind of see what prize is inside. Mostly points.

    • +2

The first person to use the claw machine got return economy flights to any international destination.

      • -1

They would still have to pay taxes as velocity points only cover the fare

        • +1

If it's like the free flights last time, you email a certain email address and tell them what flight to book and they just book it for you and add it to your account.

  • When I walked past at 9am they were giving out wristbands and said there's 4 machines.

The queue snaked all the way around the block and was past the corner at the QVB/Woolies crossing.

  • +1

I had to leave. I got there at 7:10 and there were still around 300 people Infront of me. Good luck to those still waiting.

  • +1

How does it work exactly? Is it a mad race to find the best deal or do you have a bit of time to browse once inside?

  • my friend got 3 dyson, said they were there at 3 am

    • cyule punching the air rn

  • +3

I was #699 in line and they cut the queue at 700. Got to know people beside me whilst waiting for 2hrs but had to leave for other appointment now and looks like another 2hrs to wait. Some people walking past got points, polaroid camera or similar. Seems you can choose gift or try lucky dip as we're told international flights are still available, which last people in line near me are holding out hope for.

    • Ooft lucky. What time did you join the queue?

      • +2

        9am

    • you should go back after your appointment!

  • hope those Ozbargainers were lucky to get something decent in the lucky dip/mystery prize and pts claw machine.
joined the line at 6am - just past the hilton (felt like 100+ people by then)

best of luck for those trying in other states/traveling to other states - YES u can do it for each city.

  • Are they not letting people line up now?

  • +1

Went about 30 mins ago. They said the line is still 3 hours long and they're going to 'cut it off'. Essentially if you weren't in line by then you wouldn't be getting in.

  • +9

So, bit of a write up for future events:

I entered the queue at apparently #65 or so in line, and at about 4.45am.

They limit capacity in the store - enough staff around to help/encourage people to make a decision, to keep things moving. It's not exactly three at a time, they seemed to let people in as people left.

There are some of the highlight appliances available (Dyson Airwraps, Webers) but not heaps - I don't think any of those were available by the time I got in.

    We had:

    • a vending machine, with perfumes, raybans, and maybe other things to choose from? If people are very interested in this, I can check my footage and report back, but I moved on pretty quickly.
    • a claw machine with international flights, domestic lounge passes, and points available. They come in little gacha containers so you can see what's in there. I spied an international flight towards the bottom, so I don't know if they make it random, or they actually spread flight vouchers out
    • a carousel with packaged prizes, sort of a lucky dip - it would be things you can get anyway, but you don't know what it is until you pick, no returns
    • stands/shelves with the various items available (the Dyson things, the bedsheets, the facemask thing, other appliances)

I ended up going for points because the things I might've wanted (airwrap, headphones) weren't available - at least, not without taking a gamble.

Good luck to those trying in other states!

    • How many points out of curiosity? 10k? 100?

      • +3

I got 26,900 (paying 1pt for it). That was the maximum number of points available afaik

    • What time did you get into the store?

      • +1

        Just after 9am

  • -1

Late september is going to mean grand final week isnt it 😭 Looks like theres me gone

  • Does anyone know what were in the small and large gift bags?

    • Only one I know for sure was sheets in a large bag.

  • If you go with friends are you allowed to leave the queue?

    • I think it's very much based on the vibe of the queue for most of the time. My guess based on photos I sent friends before and after they arrived to manage the queue is that not everyone in front of us was there the whole time.

  • +1

Anyone know the location for Brisbane yet?

    • +1

      It's being announced today.

    • At Queen Street

  • We have it in Brisbane on 5th. Planning to go by early morning around 7am.. Will see if anything there left for me 😂

  • +1

Brisbane on Friday Sept 5th on Queen Street, right next door to Hungry Jacks

  • Could anyone share how the international flights reward works? Can you use it anytime of the year, or only specific dates?

  • +2

Entered the Brisbane line at 3am, about 30 people ahead of me. More than expected!

    • It's around the block now, unsure if people joining the line now will get in as the queue seems bonkers

    • Managed to get some headphones, partner got the GHC hair straightener. Had to be stern to some queue jumpers who tried to sneak in at 7:30am.

I really couldn't see into those gatcha balls in the claw machine very well as others suggested, didn't want to end up with 12,000pts like the person in front of me did, so went for the guaranteed item.

Best of luck to all of you!

    • I got there 2 hours before you. I really wanted to try win international flights and was torn between choosing a high value item off the shelf or take a gamble. I chose the mystery box over the claw machine, and won a sheet set worth over $300… Not unhappy, but just sad I didn't win flights!!! Might've appreciated a Ninja Creami or LED Mask a little more than sheets but gotta be in it to win it

      • What was your position in the queue? Did the Dysons ran out by the time it was your turn?

        • They replenish them in the mystery prize/lucky dip through the day as well

        • The only Dyson left when I got in was in a mystery box, none on the shelf. It was annoying that people dragged their partners along to double up on the Dysons

  • Any ideas how many prizes on offer?

  • 400 plus already in queue

  • +1

They should make it a physical queue with digital redemption.

After you join the queue, you get a digital code and time to login and select your gift

    • +1

Wish they had the brains to think along these lines.

  • It seems there are 520 prizes up for grabs here in Brisbane.

  • 1:45 update. Small line up the mall still but officials saying probably wasting time as they have exhausted prizes. Still seeing people walk out with bags though… So maybe about to run out or misled
