Ryze Tello Quadcopter Drone - US $79 (~AU $108.72) Delivered @ Joybuy

170

I bought one of these, not from joybuy (I paid full price locally), and am very impressed. Sure it's not a spark, mavic or phantom, but it is very good for the price.

  • What was full price locally? And did you get the controller?

    • +1

$169 and I'm not even cross. It's an awesome little drone and seems pretty sturdy even after the significant crashes I have had. I haven't got the controller- I had planned on getting it but have found I have gotten used to the phone interface very quickly- apparently it's better than other phone controllers.

      • …I should add, the crashes weren't because of the controller, but because i didn't think i was that close to the tree (twice)

Thanks. I've been holding out and planning on getting one of the MJX Bugs versions, but maybe this is better as a toy for me.

        • @kulprit: I don't know anything about MJX. I'm keen to hear from any other tello owners as to what they think of the drone.

  • Good price! Got my one from banggood for around 120

  • Sorry everyone for the newbie drone question

Is this a clone or a ripoff site or what?

I don't know. It looks like a mavic air, but you can be sure it won't have even a fraction of the capability. The Tello is commonly regarded as having very good capability and quality for the price.

    • It's not a clone. It's a proper drone made by Ryze with DJI technology.

It's just a cheap entry level drone for a bit of fun that has a camera on it. Don't try comparing it to the Mavic Air as they're in totally different classes.

Did you look at his link? I was comparing that to the mavic air, not the tello.

Just a warning about the Tello, it doesn't record to microsd, it only transmits the video back to your phone via wifi. The result are a very low bitrate video recording. Many users also report it to also be very intemitant/jerky video.

Pay $169 locally you get a bonus battery ($29). So save ~$60 if you don't need 2nd battery, or ~$30 if you do.

Bought one of these on the weekend they are excellent drones for the money.

  • unbeatable price.

  • Why put DJI in the title? It is not made by DJI so that is misleading.

    • Ryze Sun of Drome

    • DJI logo is on the front of the box, and it’s also on the DJI website.
      https://m.dji.com/product/tello?gclid=CjwKCAjwsJ3ZBRBJEiwAtu…

      • It's not DJI. DJI helped with providing them some components and is for sale at their online store. Does not mean it is DJI. Ssangyong sells cars that have Mercedes engines or parts in it and some Mercedes dealers carried it. Does not make a Ssangyong car a Mercedes.

        • -1

As I stated… DJI logo is on the box and it’s on the DJI website. Everything I stated was correct.

        • @captnrosco: So is the Mercedes badge on the engine of the Ssangyong. But is it a Mercedes?

        • +1

          @captnrosco: https://www.ryzerobotics.com/tello
That is the real website. Tello by Ryze Robotics. Yes, it has DJI parts in there. It also has Intel DSP in there too. Does it make it an Intel Drone now according to your logic?

        • -1

Never said otherwise. But obviously there is some partnership with DJI if there’s a DJI logo on the box but not a Ryze one. Why do you care so much? Go do some work.

        • @captnrosco: Lol. There's partnership between Apple and Samsung despite hating each other's guts. Can you call the iPhone to be a Samsung device since it uses Samsung OLED screens, Memory and Samsung manufactured CPU?
          Just standard reductio ad absurdum..

          Back to work!! :)

  • 20 to 30 days delivery and no local warranty makes it hard to justify, even at this price.

    • I reckon the deal with the free battery at jb hifi is well worth it. I was considering the spark but know that I'm not going to use it enough to justify the price.

    • There's always a possibility that your drone would crash due to sudden loss of power while in the air, or fly away and never return, and you won't be able to make a warranty claim. DJI is known to reject claims under these circumstances, and someone might prefer to risk less expensive toys.
