Good areas to go tobogganing in Oberon or 2 hours from Sydney?

Can't afford to go Canberra for a snow trip. I hear it's snowing in Oberon. Are there any good areas to bring the kids tobogganing just over the Blue Mountains or a tad further?

Horseshoe bend Rd or shooters hill.
    It's probably all melted now

Do a google first, I was reading recently where Thredbo has banned tobogganing altogether. Concerns were that other resorts would follow suite.

Thredbo has banned it, but Perisher have a dedicated toboggan area.

      From Perisher.com.au

"Toboggans are prohibited on all Perisher ski slopes and should only be undertaken at the designated toboggan slope located beside Perisher Valley Car Park on Pipers Ridge. Tobogganing can be dangerous and like all alpine activities involves inherent risks. For your safety please obey all signage when tobogganing or on or about the toboggan slope. From time to time, the toboggan slope may be closed due to insufficient snow depth or inclement weather."

    • Thredbo had a dedicated tobogganing area last year when I went.

Yes they did. They have now closed it. Or had when I read the article a few weeks back. There was outrage so they might have reversed their position but I couldn't find any info to that effect.

To maximise safety for guests, employees, and resort property, Thredbo prohibits the use of toboggans and other miscellaneous snow sliding equipment that is associated with “Snow Play” within our leasehold area….

This prohibition includes any area under the ownership or control of Thredbo. This policy applies to all members of the public, staff, sublessees and volunteers. No enquiries will be entertained from toboggan or miscellaneous snow sliding equipment users.

    • Would be good if someone's plotted smooth rock free hills in Kosciuszko National Park for tobogganing.

If you want snow in Oberon, you have to go immediately, the same day. It is very rare for it to last even one day.
It isn't a ski place, just a town that happens to be up high so catches some cold weather.
Blackheath weather on Twitter is an amateur meteorologist who gives the best info for snow in the Blue Mountains and out to Oberon.
You should check him out ahead of time, and he will advise likelihood of snowfall and when it does snow he will post pics so you can assess if it is worth the drive.

He also does magnificent forecasts and observations, sometimes in verse. By far the best weather info, but probably less useful to you in the lowlands.

    • Thank you! you even added the link :) valuable info!

      • There's also some snow chaser guy on Facebook
