Avalon Airport to Melbourne CBD

First time going to Melbourne, wondering what happens if the plane is delayed to Avalon as there is only a 5 minute difference between arrival time and SkyBus departures. And what alternatives there are if I miss the SkyBus.

Tip: Go to Tullamarine airport. Avalon is not worth the saving.

as there is only a 5 minute difference between arrival time and SkyBus departures

The bus will wait…. There is only a handful of planes in/out of Avalon a day. So the bus either leaves empty or it waits for the plane ;)

    • JimmyF could be right, only jetstar flies there and SkyBus may wait for the plane to arrive. You can also contact the SkyBus operator and confirm.

      • Check the flights out for yourself

        https://www.avalonairport.com.au/flights/flight-schedule

        Tomorrow flights incoming are

        22-Jun 06:00 Jetstar JQ602 Sydney
        22-Jun 09:05 Jetstar JQ632 Adelaide Intl
        22-Jun 10:00 Jetstar JQ630 Gold Coast
        22-Jun 13:05 Jetstar JQ604 Sydney
        22-Jun 15:45 Jetstar JQ606 Sydney
        22-Jun 17:50 Jetstar JQ608 Sydney
        22-Jun 20:30 Jetstar JQ610 Sydney

The plane then basically turns around and heads out again.

        Then you have this

        https://www.avalonairport.com.au/getting-to-avalon/bus-trans…

"SkyBus meets each major flight at Avalon Airport."

        and then this

        https://www.skybus.com.au/avalon-city-express/timetable/

"Our schedule meets every major flight arriving and departing Avalon Airport. No need to book – just turn up and go."

So yes the bus waits, otherwise it leaves empty.

        • Exactly. They’re basically shuttle buses for the flights. Regardless of the time the flight eventually lands, there will be a bus there to meet it.

  • Skybus is the only realistic option. I went a couple of weeks ago to Melbourne via Avalon.
The buses are scheduled in line with the flights. You'll be fine, getting out of the airport is pretty quick.

  • Theres no cheap option from Avalon, only Skybus for $22. When you compare this to Tullamarine airport with PTV 901 bus + train from Broadmeadows (costs $4.20) it can even cost more to go to Avalon. See here https://www.danielbowen.com/transport/melb-airport-cheap-way…

    • One of these days, just for shids and giggles, I want to take the 901 to the airport. It runs right past the end of my street and from there to the terminal, it is only 2h20m…

    • SkyBus online, 2018/2019 summer fares from Tullamarine -> Melbourne CBD,
      are now AU$ $17.50 for 1-way (AU$ 33 for return)
