David Jones Won't Honor Their Price Match Promise! So Annoyed. Anyone Have Similar Experiences?

Having posted a deal on the Sony A8F 65" recently, I had the idea to buy this from David Jones with their Price Match promise and buy the TV with the vouchers from my Entertainment Book/RACQ Memberships (10% off) and combine with Cashrewards (10% off).

Currently Videopro have the lowest advertised price of $4840 incl delivery.

David Jones have it at their original RRP of $5999

With the above Price match promise, I could have got the TV for around $4000 which would be a steal!

I emailed DJ for a price match, no response.

I msg'd them on FB, no response.

I called online customer service and waited for 45 minutes only to be told that they don't price match Sony TV's due to an internal issue with warranty, which didnt make any sense. The guy was very specific about the sony model which was odd and when I asked him if they have matched in the past, his response was that he doesnt know!

I posted on the DJ FB page and they responded an hour later stating they would get someone to call me back!

I have gone through all their T & C's and no where does it state anything about not matching TV's or specific products.

Anyone has any other ideas or recommendations? or similar experiences where their price match promise has not been honoured?

Sometimes form multiple retailers, its up to managers discretion.

I just leave and buy it from the other place if its within like 10 minutes of travel time.

If the price difference is not that substantial, I will just purchase it there without the price match.

I have a DJ, HN and Videopro all within 5 minutes of where I live. The final price difference is substantial.

What I dont understand is, why have a Price Match Promise when you wont even honor it. And the funny thing is, the Videopro deal matches all of their Price match promise conditions and they still won't honor it.

      • Yeah it can be so annoying. However nowadays I tend to ‘reward’ the company that had the lowest price to begin with. All the stress we go through to price match at places like office works doesn’t seem so worth it any more, given such inconsistencies

Try in store or try calling again. I worked for a "price matching" store in the past and often managers and employees are ignorant when it comes to policies, warranties and consumer law. If someone gives you a BS reason why they can't price match it usually means they don't know what they are talking about and probably has little to do with company policy. Just find another employee.

    • I am on the phone with them again to see if I could speak with someone else. Issue is, if I buy instore, I lose the cashback from cashrewards which is almost $450.

And their website states that the TV can be purchased only online!

      • Cashrewards might not payout if you pricematched a product, just advertised price or a coupon on their site. Well thats the go with hotels anyway so YMMV :)

        • I am curious to see how they do the pricematch! If they give me a coupon code to apply online, cashrewards will decline that.

In HN's case, they give you a separate URL to purchase the item. If they do something similar, then I can track it via CR. In this instance, I dont see why it would be declined because I did not use a voucher code

        • @aspirepranesh:

In HN's case, they give you a separate URL to purchase the item.

I doubt David Jones is that savvy. They'll just do it as a phone order, so you miss out on the cash rewards.

Maybe, you can ask to order online (pay with gift cards + credit card for the amount over the final price) and they can refund you in the store.

In fact, you could even try buying online with gift cards, then just going into a store and asking for a price match! But that's a little more risky, as you might be stuck paying more for a TV …

        • @salmon123: I've had the same thought process as you. Having spent 90 mins on the phone, they agreed to price match online, but after I got off the phone, it showed that they can't ship TV's. Waste of time

  • and buy the TV with the vouchers from my Entertainment Book/RACQ Memberships (10% off) and combine with Cashrewards (10% off).

Normally, I would expect to see a "not valid with any other offer" type wording in their policy.
They seem to have a simplified policy on their website (https://www.davidjones.com/price-promise) and I found a few links to what I assume is their full policy document - none of those links seem to work anymore.

    • At the end of the day, I guess it does not matter how you pay as long as they price match. I could have gift cards from the past as wedding gifts and stuff.

      • I was referring to any other offers that involve additional discounts after they've already matched the price.

        • Ah fair enough. That makes sense! Oh well.. their loss if they don't want my money

  • Buy it from Videopro store? Otherwise it seems a longer story on DJ's FB page might work - keep the tone as "not angry, just disappointed". I think that works best.

  • I guess their argument is they will only price match the net price, viz. after taking into account any further discounts you may want to claim.
    Which would make sense.

  • Something to also be aware of is the max card redemption when checking out, TGG can only process 2 GC's online. If you buy $5000 you maybe get 5x$1000 cards.

    • Can definitely do >2 GC on DJs website … not sure about 5 though.

      • Max is ten apparently (upgrade from five on the old website)

  • I've only ever price matched in store. Imagine trying to get them to price match with an online purchase method will be tough as their tech systems are a joke.

    • I just went through the whole process over the phone, but I can't place an order online as they don't ship TV's. Waste of 90 mins of my time.

Second complaint about price matching in 2 days.

Just remember a supplier can choose NOT to sell you a product. Its not your choice. Its theirs!
And there are always several conditions attached to a the price match guarantee.
One of these is that they dont match online offers. Full stop
The item must be available "locally".
Another is that it must be a stock item.
Another is they will not sell below cost or compete against clearance items.

So stop complaining and just go the the place were you can get the best price and leave us alone.
We are not going to force the supplier to sell the product to you.

Price matching offers are only a policy. they are not written in stone and not the law.

Mate, before you reply to a msg. Check my post… The item I posted matches every single condition of theirs! It is both an in store/online offer. Item is available locally, both stores are 5 minutes from each other. It is an in stock item and it is well above cost price.

FYI, Videopro are the official Sony retailer in Australia that own all the Sony stores across the country and they supply to other retailers.

Check DJ's price match promise before you start saying that people shouldnt complain! I do my research well before I want something! Period.

On a side note, this is exactly why DJ and Myer are struggling for business!

      • Mate the bottom line as I say is to stop whinging and just buy where you can actually get the item at lowest price.

Obviously you have a problem with doing this otherwise you wouldnt be complaining about DJs.

Yes, DJs and Myer may be struggling but thats thier problem. Not yours. And thier problem has nothing to do with price match guarantee because these big store compete on the service they provide. (Or at least supposed to provide).

The internet is a wonderful place because it gives us so much information.
        Use it wisely.

      • They're under no obligation

I also doubt Video Pro supply stock to other retailers as a retailer themselves

If you can't afford the TV, don't overextend yourself

        • Im sorry… arent we here on OZBargain and not OZwhatcanyouafford? lets put it this way… the whole site exists to find everyone a bargain! Its not about affordability, its about saving money! and I have a DJ Amex card myself….which I would be cancelling because whats the point when they can't even stand by their loyal customers.

  • Oh well…. Bought the TV from Sony direct with the 15% off which works out to be a lot cheaper than any other retailer.

    • 15% off $5999 comes to $5099 why not videopro at $4840?

      • it is on sale for $5099 at Sony and there was a 15% cashback via Cashrewards which made it $4335, which is almost $400 cheaper than videopro!

Since I cant purchase from DJ online, I would have had to buy 10% gift vouchers and price match in store for $4840 which would have made it the same as buying it from Sony direct.

Hope you can get the Cashback.
I had a few big issues with cr not crediting large amounts.

For small amounts the are fine

        • +1

@hellohello123: I was a little bit concerned about the large amount, considering they changed it from 15% to 10% an hour after I made the purchase and now it sits at the standard 2.1%. I was able to successfully get the cashback from the Sony Tv purchase I made back in early 2017, so fingers crossed.

I cant stand Officeworks for this reason.

I tried to price match a Samsung Galaxy S7, at the time with a store online and they said they cant honor it cause its online (even though they have a store here in Sydney).

So when the SGS8 came out I went and tried to see if they would price a bricks and mortar store in city Sydney CBD "its not big enough".

I'm over it and never going to that joke of a place - for anything - ever again.

Sorry but OW can go and eat spiders.

    • I cant stand Officeworks for this reason.

I've never had an issue with officeworks … they even price beat MSY … guess it depends on the store/salesperson.

      • Same here. Never had an issue.

  • I didn't know that DJs don't price match Apple products. Also, missing from their Price Promise page.

Is this common knowledge in the Ozbargain community?

    • Never heard of that before when I worked there. Who were you trying to price match?

If you have Facebook, ask them on their page to see what they say

  • I tried to price promise an online order via the phone today and pay with gift cards/e gift cards. The price match was ok but then they wouldn't accept payment with my DJ'S gift cards. I was then told to go to my local store. Well my local store is small and didn't have the products so i phone another store within the state. They had the product but wouldn't price match as they said they can only price match with a local retail store. I asked the sales person that their price promise doesnt say anything about local stores only so they checked with their floor manager who confirmed what the sales person had told me. By this time i had flames coming out of my ears. I then called another store within the state and they said the same, can only price match with a local store and can't price match over the phone and that i would have to come into the store. I then took this up with their fb team and was initially advised that inshore has different price promise conditions that online store. I asked for the police/terms and conditions and then they corrected themself and said the price promise is the same for instore and online. This didn't help me though as i could only do the price promise via the phone and they wouldn't accept gift card payment. So I purchased my goods elsewhere with a bad taste left with David Jones.
