bro this spec 'as been on for ages.

  • This special is probably the best of a bad lot. Most of Teds specials bring them down to normal street price.

    http://www.teds.com.au/tripods/manfrotto-190xdb-804rc2/w1/i2…

Basic tripod and head combo though.

Cheapest on ebay is $233 delivered

    • what is the advantage of a $233 tripod compared to a $20 one? They both look VERY similar.

      • +1

the $20 one is not stable when its windy - a good one is heavy and solid.
Not just the legs either, on a cheap one, the head doesnt stay still if you fix it on certain angles.

Have a look at one in the shop and you will immeadiatley feel the difference; however if you plan on using your tripod only a few times a year - I guess the $20 one will suffice.

        • Actually a good one is light and stable. The good ones are usually carbon fibre. Obviously a carbon fibre tripod is going to be alot more than $233.

        • I scored a carbon fibre Slik tripod for $350 from Rainers (but I bought other stuff with it)… yes the angry shop owner.

So a little more than $233 but much cheaper than you might think. Amazing how light it is. The ball head weighs more than the tripod.

      • I'm using a cheapy at the moment for ebay photography. It looks cool and stable but the legs are flexy and completely hopelessly unstable. The lift, pan and tilt of the cheapies is really nasty too.

        I guess it's true - looks aren't everything LOL

        • my wife read this comment over my shoulder and asked if it referred to me!

        • It's a worry - as you get older, you will lose whatever looks that you have…

…and then what else will you have to rely on…? :-D

  • Stability mainly. Carbon fibre units supposively absorb small vibrations from mirror slap etc. Minor adjustements and holding those adjustments are easier/more accurate with more expensive heads.

  • Is the velbon cx888 good for use as a video tripod? How about the manfrotto?

    • +1

I don't do video but as the modern cameras are generally light I suspect you are better off with a good fluid head and ergonomic handle.

Velbon vs. Manfrotto - better off trying them out or yourself but the general rule of "you get what you pay for" generally applies for photographic equipment.

      • Yeah I was actually wondering which of these had a good fluid head for smooth panning. I'm not a pro so velbon or manfrotto doesn't make a difference to me as long as it works :)

        • The Manfrotto has a photographic head, so you'd be better off with the Velbon AFAIK.

  • I am after i3150, but why the website lists it as $29.95?
