  • $549.99 on gearbest - https://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_009178344547.html

Oops! Sorry it's 549 US dollars.

  • +1

Good deal on a new phone. It's a real tossup between the Nokia 7 plus, one of the xiamoi offerings (effect mi 8 or mi mix 2s) or this… Seems to have the highest screen to bit ratio, but not sure about whether Asus ever updates…

    • Asus do update for about two or so years with regular updates. Os updated maybe once or twice but other updates like but fixes security patches etc pretty regular.

In comparison to xiaomi where you might see one OS update and that's it. But you get miui updates for a good five years or so

    • Go for the 7+ or the mix2s. At least that way you have treble and will always be able to get up to date and stock android

      • Do you mean to say zenfone is not treble supported?

        • Just checked, it is! Go for it then if you prefer notch > upside down camera on mi mix 2s

  • no wireless charging.

My last zenfone has lasted me 5 years

  • Dual sim Both 4G

  • For what it's worth I had a great experience with my last Zenfone. I think asus is going in the right direction.

That being said, I've been equally or more impressed with Nokia. I'm currently using a Nokia 8 which I got on a deal here for $430 or so and it's been fantastic for mobile gaming, has no issues with thermal throttling due to a large copper heat pipe inside the phone. Awesome for extreme users.

The screen size is fairly awkward though at 5.3 inches, it's kind of tall and not that wide so this Asus caters to a different market clearly.

  • Damn this is really good price for a flagship spec phone.

Would 100% of snapped this up if I didn't get my 7+ a few weeks ago.

  • D'oh. I ordered exactly this from qd_au last weekend on the sitewide 10% off. Got an SMS from dhl saying it'll be delivered today. Looking forward to it. Not a lot of reviews out there yet.

But top specs. The 845 chipset is big improvement on the previous which was already fast. Looking forward to the speed. Its in the S9 which is over double the price and which has more bloat.

I wrote to qd, they got back to me promptly to say they couldn't give a tax invoice due to no gst but confirmed return to Sydney for any warranty returns. After all the positive reviews I've read here and whirlpool forums, confident in buying from them.
