Just a heads up that it's the Exynos model.

      What does that mean?
Theoretically it has a processor that's slower than the Apple A11-Bionic but faster than the Apple A10 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 845.

Practically… it's about 10% slower and uses 10% more battery life. Not to mention the slower GPU, the worse LTE-strength, and slightly worse camera sensor. Overall, not recommended when comparing the stock experience.

However, the Exynos version does have an Un-lockable Bootloader. So you can have a custom recovery, root, drivers, kernel, rom and mods. The caveat being it's not as fleshed out as say the OnePlus 6/Pixel 3…and messing with it causes you to trip Knox and lose Samsung Pay feature.

      • Just a heads up that it's the Exynos model.

It's also probably worth mentioning only the US and Chinese models use the Snapdragon 845. Stock from anywhere else in the world (Australia, UK, HK, etc) use the Exynos processor.

Also might be worth mentioning that some people have gotten different benchmark results to reviewers who find that the Exynos model is much slower than the SD model.

  • Have to pay GST?

    • +1

Not if you buy before July 1st

      • Everyone keeps saying this, how does it work?

        • Is it buy before July 1st or delivered before July 1st

        • @UNO: I don't know for sure but it has got to be buy before 1st.

Sites will suposedly be adding GST to purchases after the first so it probably wouldn't make sense for it to be delivery date based.

        • Australia will impose laws, like the UK with VAT, that foreign sites selling to Australians must pay GST from the 1st July.

This will likely be added on top of any existing costs so now we get the Australia Tax plus the Australia Tax.

  • Is this overseas stock? I'm guessing so - in which case local Samsung won't touch it if you have any issues (eg crack your screen).

    • Wonder if Amex will cover it..

      • Mind you this was when the screen was broken on my own misadventure so outside of warranty, but it was just frustrating that Samsung AU wouldn't do anything about it (even if I paid!) as it wasn't a local model.

      • Can you use the paypal/ebay receipt confirmation as proof or does it need to be a tax invoice?

after i logged onto paypal to pay, the price came up as $907.78?

    • That's exactly what I wanted to say about this Ebay international payment. They would provide you a price with the standard conversion rate. But when you are about to pay, no matter how you pay it, I mean via paypal or credit card directly, they will somehow use their own conversion rate which is like another 4% higher than what we can ger from the bank. Has anyone have a method to work around this?

      • +2

You can change it somewhere in PayPal, I did a long time ago so I don't remember exactly where.
I think it is easier to find if you're browsing on desktop browser.

        It's something like this =>
        http://blog.iopsl.com/change-paypal-conversion-options-to-av…

Apparently they do move the page sometimes.. good luck.

        • Thanks heaps.

Unfortunately, this one is not running on 845, it is on samsung chips, otherwise I might have got these.

          Cheers

  • Hi guys, is it worth to upgrade from S7 into S8? S9 seems very expensive, thanks

    • S8 improvements is infinity screen, newer processor and better selfie camera with a weak Samsung camera software app tweak.

S9 plus improvement is infinity screen with increased calibration, better speaker, dual camera with dual aperture. Better finger print sensor placement.

S7 upgrade to s8 only has three improvements that I previously listed. Personally it isn't worth it. If you are waiting this long, might as well wait for the 10th anniversary s10 next year.

  • Does anyone know if this product is protected with Australian Consumer Law? I am trying to find out the length of warranty but can’t find any length of time on official websites.

    • Yes and no. It might be technically covered, but the seller is not in Australia so it's effectively "no".

  • Did anyone actually buy this from here? i was a muscle twitch away from completing the purchase… but hesitated… that warranty thing always catches me out. I think the Dick Smith deal has the same for +~$140

Someone talk me into one or the other pls
