Rechargeable Led Bike Lights, Cheapies

My family all ride to school/work and have the cheap Kmart bike lights with button batteries. They don't last very long though, especially when the kids forget to turn them off. Looking for some recommendations on cheap but decent rechargeable flashing LEDs (front and back) for our fleet of bikes. Cheap an cheerful is key, the kids tend to forget to take em off the bike when they lock up.

As a dedicated OzBargainer….I ride to work daily and I run with.

$0.88 front lights + 3 x AAA eneloops from Dick Ssith days.

    2 x $1.24 USB flashing rear lights.

Of course these deals are now no longer valid but the tail lights are $4 delivered still cheap and the front light is just under $7 delivered.

You can probably get them cheaper on eBay.

Note the front light is more of a You see me light than Me see you….but churns out decent light for night time riding.

I use this exact setup of front/rear lights! Except I don't like the mount for the front lights, I use these simple ones instead:

Since I have 2 of the rear ones and I use the rear even during the day, for long rides or night rides, I make sure to swap for a freshly charged one.

Please don't cheap out on lights.

The number of cyclists I see in dark clothing with a tiny light on their bike is absolutely absurd. I swear it's so they can complain about other road users.

On the other end of the scale, some have extremely bright borderline illegal LEDs that dazzle drivers. Saw one get pulled up and told off on Swanston st about their lights.

Reliability is important with the rear light as you won't notice if it stops working while riding, leaving you vulnerable.

  • You likely already buy your button batteries in bulk through eBay, DX etc.
    ~10c ech?

+1 for the other comments - what of flashing pedals/wheels too?

    Keep Safe :-)

Yes, I do, but I'm equally getting environmental flack from the family for using disposable batteries.

Aldi have them when they have bike gear on sale.

I've tested loads of cheap bike lights over the past couple of years and I've settled on a couple of stand outs.

    Best rear light

    Best front lights

Both are COB lights and are highly visible. Battery life is decent. They're my standard gift to friends/family when they're in need of a light.

This one is great if you want to project some light to see where you're going. The light above will make you more visible. I use both.

I've also been very impressed by this. It doesn't have quite the battery life of the first and is twice the price, but has a huge emitting area and is the most visible tail light I've tested.

These are probably really good for the price also. But I've not tested them because I've got too many lights!
