*Not available after 5pm on Fri/Sat

This is a really important point and makes it a deal breaker for me.

      • Agreed. I only go to the movies Fri or Sat night…unless I go on cheap Tuesdays for $8…

        • +5

Cheap Tuesdays is still like $15 at event lol

        • +1

          @pennypincher98:
Cost is dependent on location. I think my local is $11

        • +1

You can get tickets via Telstra Thanks for $12.50 anytime except Fri and Sat nights.

        • @FireRunner: it is so obviously only charging high prices in places without competition to drive out everyone else. How is this legal???

    • actually it looks like you just need to pay a little bit more $ to visit after 5pm

      • -2

        Not for Gold Class…

  • Anyone bought and know how much is "a little bit extra to upgrade your movie experience to 3D or Vmax, or sessions after 5:00pm Friday and Saturday nights."? Could still be a good deal to me

    • -2

You can upgrade to vmax, extreme screen etc. But you cannot upgrade to a Saturday night. Put it simply, don't get this if you plan to watch movies on Saturday nights.

That’s weird, because according to the OP you can upgrade to Fri/Sat nights.

No one go to the cinema. Overpriced, not clean seats.

    • My local Events cinema is good, screens not the biggest and chairs are less spongy than they were but not bad. The Hoyts though is absolutely shocking..

    • no pausing!

    • +8

It’s other people’s food stuck to seats, other people’s phones going off, other people talking, eating, shouting, rustling packets, sniffing, farting, giggling, arguing, coughing and generally avoiding social niceties. That’s why I don’t go to cinema

      • +5

Man whichever cinemas you've been going to sound absolutely shit. I've been to quite a variety of them and have rarely experienced any of that.

I think your opinion of the cinema experience is unfairly influenced by one or two bad moviegoers.

      • +5

I concur with blibster. I go to the cinema 3 times a fortnight at least (between 4 different complexes on Fri and Sun evenings) and I have my experience disrupted by other people in 90% of those sessions. Talking, excessive food packaging rustling and mobile phones being used. In 1 of every 3 sessions, I will need to confront the offender. It is a minority, but still too many people treat the cinema like their lounge room and have no respect for others trying to watch a movie.

        • My wife is one of those plastic package openers, took her to the movies for the first time in four years to see Deadpool 2 and she still hadn't learned… Had to rip a packet out of her hands because she was so determined to crinkle it. So embarrassing.

        • You need to try a different cinema, I go about once a month and can't remember ever having that kind of disruption other than some minor rustling food packaging. Never felt the need to confront anybody.

          @martyn:

I find it is dependant on the cinemas. I avoid burwood and parramatta due to the clientele.

      • +2

Yes, why go out in the cold when I can get all that at home?

  • +4

Havent seen to a good Event Cinema is Sydney for years now, they seem to all be rubbish compared to the modernized Hoyts with recliners.

    • +4

I recently went to Hoyts and found the recliners uncomfortable. Horses for courses I reckon.

  • +12

Last time I bought this, it has a 6 months expiry date. This time 3 months, too short.

    • Even if there were 8 movies with watching I think you’re right.

      • +1

2 people 5 movies in 3 months. Seems reasonable.
Unless you were planning to go alone.

  • Do you even Event Cinema, Victoria?

Don't think it's really worth it unless I go interstate.

    • +1

U need to find bargain air tickets first.

      • -1

When do TigerAir have their sale day? Anyone know?

        • It was a serious question. Why the negs?

        • @sagitox: That's probably why you were negged.

        • -1

@ensanguined: No it was a joke, so I edited it and I got negged again. Seriously.

        • -1

@sagitox: Ok lol, and thanks for the neg. Let me get back to your comment tomorrow when my neg cap is removed.

        • -2

@ensanguined: Removed. Some people. Do you find joy in negging people?

  • Can we still collect Cinebuzz points on the viewings?

    • +1

Yes. I have collected 100 points per (regular) movie with the previous e-voucher deal a few months back.

  • -1

Sinemia app is good..cheaper…if it works..

    • Can you briefly explain how it works?

    • +1

I gave up on Sinemia - too much hassle to save a few bucks on a movie.

  • +1

The other problem I often find when pre purchasing vouchers like these is you always have to pay another ‘booking fee’ per voucher if you want to reserve a seat for a movIe online. Usually for a few dollars more. Would that apply to these vouchers ?

    • +4

I just used these vouchers to book gold class and there was an unavoidable $3+ fee per person.

      • +1

this is why you go to the dendy. F*** this bullshit.

    • +2

Yeah it would, I just use them at the box office to avoid the booking fees before the movie, they're ridiculously high. Can't even see why they need it, the candy bar is already >200% overpriced to accommodate.

    • Last time I bought 2 RAC vouchers for 12.5$ and when I went to buy the tickets it was asking for 3$ booking fee per ticket so total of 15.5$ per ticket. If I had bought the tickets directly from the counter it would have been only 15$.Absolutely ridiculous. Ever since I just go to reading cinemas in Perth which is much better than hoyts and event. Price is also standard 12.5$ for Titan and 15$ for premium recliner.

  • So the same price as Cineplex all year round.

  • Thanks OP - works for me with the upcoming school hols :)

  • They make all their profit on Popcorn anyway, as well as booking fees!

  • Not trolling

But any worthwhile movies in the coming three months to warrant a purchase ?

    • The new Ant Man seems good, alongside Equalizer 2.

      • As above +

        • Mission Impossible Fallout
        • The Meg :)
  • Is it possible to split/share/transfer the vouchers? I don't need 10 tickets, but a few would be good!

    • +2

      yea, i could go halves

  • if only it was Hoyts, I only go to Hoyts because of the reclining seats, that by itself is a deal breaker for me as it feels like gold class by itself.

  • Good Event Cinemas that we go to

    • Campbelltown

    • Bondi

Lousy Event Cinemas that we don't bother with

    • Miranda non IMAX - worst screens - they display 2.35:1 films on a 1.85:1 screen

    • Cronulla - wish previous owner just left it as a single screen - there is one decent large one and the rest are poor.

  • *All 10 x admission barcodes will come on the one order. Online booking fees apply. Only valid for redemption at Event, GU FIlm House, Greater Union or BCC Cinemas between 01.07.2018 - 30.09.2018. Not valid at Village Cinemas VIC/ TAS. Limited time only.

  • Anyone know if u can pay using event giftcard?

  • +2

Anyone know how much is the lit bit extra $ for after 5 pm Friday and Saturday sessions

  • When did they start the whole no friday nights? Before all the vouchers / cheaper tickets used to be only that you couldnt use it after 5pm saturday night. So has it also started on fridays as well, that pretty much makes them almost useless as fridays were my usual nights.

  • wonder whats the surcharge for watching in vmax..?
plus expect the usual booking fee as well too? lol

    • +1

Normally between $3-5 depending cinema & the sessions.

  • Can we use a event gold class gift card worth $100 to get 4 tickets with this deal?

  • +1

I have used the vouchers to see a movie on Friday after 5pm without extra charge
