Hi folks, we've created an iPhone app, "myMBS", which contains the entire Australian Medicare Benefits Schedule, for doctors, nurses and proceduralists working in the Australian public health system to find item numbers with ease!

The main advantage of our app is the convenience of searching the MBS on your iPhone rather than painstakingly flipping through the traditional bloated white MBS book. Users can also store their most commonly used items for quick referencing. We've also added a calculator to work out assistant fees (useful for surgical assistants). This is the entire MBS - no internet connection required.

    Ahahah I love how many people are asking for codes. I really doubt that out of the 320 people who clicked, 70ish are medical professionals.

      As much as I want to hand out promo codes, Apple only allocates a certain number - and we're getting close to that limit.

      Yes, there is a real need for unification and electronisation of medical records across Australian hospitals.

    Why would people want that if they are NOT medical doctor? Basically it just tells you how much you can claim from the government, unless you want to know how much you have been ripped off by the doctor…

      People who may be interested:
      1) Doctors (medical, surgeons, dentists)
      2) Nurses - theatre nurses e.g
      3) Physios, Chiro
      4) Radiographers

      5) Lay public - as you implied - anybody who has ever questioned their medical bill can now search the item numbers they are billed and find out exactly how much the recommended Medicare fee is.

      This is a handy app designed for use without an internet connection, so you can carry the entire MBS and access it anywhere.

      The government has specifically stated that the MBS is in no way meant to reflect what a procedure is worth - only what the government is prepared to rebate you for it. -1 for the being ripped off comment

        You are correct.

        That was a dodgy statement. I retract that.

        The MBS no ways reflects accurately what an operation/procedure is worth as it does not take into account inflation rates. Hence, most doctors are required to charge in excess of the MBS fee. Otherwise, they would be out of pocket themselves.

    For those who think paying any money out of pocket is the same as being ripped off by "greedy doctors":

    The Medicare rebate growth, over the last 25 years, has NOT kept up with inflation, let alone the rising cost of providing health care - cost of new technology, computers, rising staff costs etc.

    From 1985, inflation (CPI) has gone up about 230%, Average income gone up 285%, Medicare rebate (MBS) gone up 170%. Who's paying for the gap?

    eg item 23 - A 20 minute visit to a GP for 1 or more problems pays $34.90.
    NB: How much does a 20 minute visit for 1 or more problems by a plumber/electrician cost? Way more than $34.90.
    NB: a GP went to medical school for 6 years, intern/resident for 2 years, GP training for 3 years (11 years in total).
