The sheriff may also consider excusing you in other circumstances, including if:
-you are absent from New South WalesI reckon AirTasker or maybe Bikies…
or both.I just rocked up to the first muster on day 1 looking presentable in my ordinary work attire (suit and tie) and was instantly rejected. Those in ripped jeans, flannels and uggh boots on the other hand were in big demand. Defence lawyers must think they are more likely to be sympathetic to their cause.
They must be judged by their peers.

They will just vote on your behalf.
Prebooked holiday is a valid enough reason, hubby's jury duty was scheduled on the day of flight and got it postponed
Just do your civic duty!!.
A variety of reasons are sufficient to get deferment, e.g. upcoming trip or operation, employer needs you for an important task, etc. etc. However those are deferments and you could be called again afterwards, until the year runs out. To get off the roster for a long time you will have to turn up and hopefully be not selected.
This was years ago. I got as far as the court room. My number was not called. Those who were called were looked over by the prosecution and the defence and accepted or not. The case was someone who was alleged to have used EFTPOS machinery to trick the system. The victims were banks. Theft by deception IIRC. I didn't follow the outcome but sounded like they had solid grounds to nail him.
Since I had reached the selection stage, I had discharged my duty. I got a nice thank you letter.
It's a civic duty but the wait is extremely boring. Take something to amuse you for the wait.
Also you get paid for attendance, not much though. It's counted as income.
I have been called up lately and it's still the same. Thankfully my number wasn't called when we were in the court room, but out of those twelve who were sitting in the jury box, three blokes were wearing suits and each of them were challenged and dismissed.
Because I had turned up and had done my duty I was taken off the Jury Roll. On two previous call ups I had presented excuses online, which were accepted. When they sent the third notice I decided I had to get it over and done with, it wasn't going to go away until I turned up.

Really? I would think the opposite, turning up dressed like a bum smelling of BO and stale urine would get you dismissed immediately, right?
Haven't been to jury duty yet but worked for people I know. Not sure why.

not only will you be excused, you will have some paperwork in the form of a concealed weapon charge.

DON'T COME BACK.They have heard every excuse there is. Just tell them you're on holiday and they will defer it. You may need to provide proof. It is cr@p with all the people telling you how to dress or what to say because you don't get an opportunity to say anything
If you have a holiday planned and booked prior to getting your summons, seek an exemption and provide receipts and booking documentation. If it fails at the early exemption phase take the same material into court.
Judges are generally very fair about these issues.

If you have booked the accomodation and the flights thats your ticket out of jury duty.
You cant attend jury if you will be out of the country. Simple!
But if you are just planning then plan around it.Pre-booked holiday is a good enough excuse if you have the receipts.
You will go straight back into the pool to be called up again not too long after though (still some randomness in that though)
