Using Egiftcards- Woolworths WISH Vs Coles

I have always used physical giftcards in the past, but thought about switching to using to the e-cards, but not sure whether this is the most efficient way of using them.

For Coles, I put the giftcard into "Stocard" app. I can scan the card, then punch in the PIN. Doesn't keep track of the balance but I am cool with that.

However I am not quite sure what to do with the Woolies card. It's in the Woolworths Money App, but it seems that I will still need to punch in a 10 digit card number on checking out? There is no better way??? Because frankly needing to put in all those numbers, plus a PIN…. I am not impressed by that.

I don't think there's any better way unfortunately. I personally use the Woolies app and find it quite convenient. I bought a Kmart gift card once and found it too much hassle. Registers would never accept it and had to get the assistant to help with every transaction.

I agree, I always have trouble scanning Coles Group ones and end up entering their ridiculously long card number number manually but Woolies is just like 10 numbers immediately before the pin so you are using the number pad anyway - no drama.

      • I use the little scanner next to the credit card pad (on self checkouts). It works really well.

You can physically put the woolies card in stocard. Just have to punch in the 10 digit number, then label as woolies, I also ad pin in label, so for example woolies 1986, when i havecused it i then delete it from stocard

  • Although it’s a bit more hassle, at least it tells you how much money you have and the transactions you’ve made on it. Though I mainly go to woolies because that’s the closest to me.

Geez, it's not that difficult - if you want the 5% discount, it's worth it.

    • 1st world problems..

  • Just continue using physical wish cards then. I change my e-card to physical card sometimes. Still get the same value 5% discount and all that

Coles e-gift cards are a pain. If they don't scan most of the checkout staff do not know how to enter it manually. Woolies, on the other hand, have an up to date up with balance and it is easy to input manually.

Fow Woolies egift cards: start a new exercise routine to build up those muscles needed to type in 10 digits (and then the PIN) - it may help :/ …and its easy…really! :)

    • *For not Fow :/ … where is my edit tab???

  • Where do people get coles giftcards, I haven't been able to find any easily accessible ones at 5% off

    • I got mine from AGL

      • Is this from agl gas or electricity?

RACQ or you could try this.

      • Suncorp too.

        • Hello, can you pls let me know how? I opened an online account with them but was never able to work out how. Many thanks.

        • @min2: I get it through my insurance with Gio

    • Sumo energy

  • I think I will probably stick to the physical WISH cards.
I suspect they deliberately make it less convenient to use these cards vs a simple tap of credit card/phone— the price of a 5% discount!

Honestly, it's not any less convenient. The app gives live balance update and displays all the info you need. It takes 2-3 seconds max. Would probably take longer to get your wallet, take the card out and swipe it vs. open app and plug in relevant numbers.

Why don't you buy a $100 e-card to try it out? Seems like you're commenting without actually experiencing how the system works.

They're actually very convenient because they work across all the Woolworths brand stores (and relevant petrol stations) consistently and reliably.

      • Especially great when you share your giftcards with your partner.

Whats so hard about getting your egift wish card to physical? Just rock up to the service counter with a blank wish card and a copy of your egift wish

Other than that just type in the digits

    • Any fees for transferring from e to physical gift card?

  • I just store the number in a Google Sheets Doc.
After paying, I just update the Balance in the Sheet.
    It's not hard…

Try the app, even easier :)

  • I get the egiftcards for online shopping but only the cashback woolworths ones. I never buy the Coles e-cards because they don't accept them online.

  • Can't believe that I am the first one to say this, but when I tap on my Wish eGift cards on my android phone, they are opened by the Woolies app automatically, and all the details (card number, Pin, amount) get carried across.

I think this is because I have an app called Better Open With which pretty much does what the name suggests. Makes it way easier.

    • It's been like that as far as I remember.

  • Do coles offer e giftcards at 5% off like Woolworths?

Edit: just saw someone ask same question above

For Coles printed egift cards, if you're having problems scanning then at the checkout, make sure you've set your printer to print in "high quality" or "high resolution" rather than "high speed". They may look the same to the naked eye, but in my experience, the "high speed" setting printed ones don't work at the checkout.

When scanning Coles egift cards from my phone, I always need to use the Flybuys card scanner and there seems to be a certain distance I need to put my phone (about 10 to 20cm) away from the scanner for it to work.

It's 2018 and we still have people manually entering Coles eGift cards or printing out the barcode to scan. They have a phone scanner these days and the stocard app.

Even more backwards are the people writing down wish eGift cards and manually keeping track of the balance. Never heard of the Woolworths Money app

      Hey that's me!
I was with Telstra, outage happened, no internet, can't use the app, no 5% discount. Never again.

    • some people do not have mobile phones or maybe not smartphones.
