Dryer Size for Single Household

I'm trying to decide on the size of my first dryer - 4kg or 5kg. I don't want to go any bigger than that. This will solely be used to dry stuff on a rainy/winters weekend. I have drying racks for small stuff so the dryer will primarily be for bigger stuff, eg. queen size sheets, doona cover.

  • I've lived with 4kg for years. Does sheets, towles and doona covers etc OK. Just got to have a bit of common sense.

  • Forget the size in the range you mention - go for the star rating - the more the better

    • Dryers are one of the least efficient appliances. Getting one with a better star rating might mean it isn’t as good at drying because it uses less energy, and will take longer to dry stuff. The star rating could be related to how much energy it uses over time, not how much it uses to dry stuff.

  • To choose the size you need to weigh your item and buy something that will cover that.

  • dry stuff on a rainy/winters weekend

Can you buy spare sheets and wait for a dry weekend? Might be a cheaper option.

  • I'd recommend the 5kg (I have one with a family of 4, same situation as your own). You are pretty much going to be using it for larger items, but infrequently so power should not be a big worry. I'd go the larger machine if the cost of purchase is not significantly more.
