"RESTAURANT MONTH - 50% OFF SET MENU" anyone know what they mean by set menu?

    • eat what they give you..no choices.

    • +3

The set menu offered is usually shown on dimmi under 'Menus' (may need to scroll down a bit). Note that this is not necessarily the amex set menu which is a different scheme.

      • Is the price displayed on their Special Dimmi Set Menu before or after 50% discount?

        • It will make it clear while booking (but before you confirm the booking), if not earlier.

You can usually judge by price, if it's about 50 bucks, it's already discounted.

    • set menu means eat whatever is left over

    • Varies by restaurant but as mentioned it will pop up (very explicitly) when you go to confirm. Usually the menu is one of the attachments, and the price shown is after discount.

  • +1

How do you actually claim the 50% off? How can you be sure that the restaurant knows that you have booked under the promotion? I've made bookings through Dimmi before but have never used my points or tried to take advantage of a promotion.

    • Book through link, the time slot will say 50% in orange.

Points - can't be used with these deals.

if you book thru the Dimmi site, using a date/time with the "50% off" tag, then it will show clearly during the online booking process window. Worked fine for me this way at least 10 times in the past. If you are not sure, then follow up with a call and confirm - can cancel if doesnt work out for whatever reason. I've never had an issue so far. (even been to some places that have been 50% off drinks (beers, wine etc) too, even tho not stated during booking. Double win.

      • So when it comes to paying the bill, do you pay for the full amount and then reimbursed by AMEX; or do you get charged exactly 50% of the bill (assuming it's all food and no drinks)? I intend to stack with Entertainment Book vouchers for some restaurants, just wondering if it'll work.

        • Nothing to do with Amex this time round; that party is over for the time being

        • @kerfuffle: Ah I see, thanks.

        • -2

Can we stack entertainment book vouchers on top of this deal? That would be awesome!

EDIT: oh I just looked at my bookings and it says it's not valid in conjunction with any other offers

        • bill comes to you with 50% off already

      • So when they hand you the bill, how do they know to apply the 50% discount?

        • By reading it?
Oh you tell them. But know some places also discount mains, and charge full price on entree/dessert. Dimmi said that isn't the deal (not ok) but they're not there to back you up.

    • It's usually not a problem. There's a limited number of restaurants participating, and even then a limited number of locations for those restaurants, and they tend to participate for a fixed period (e.g. 1-2 months), so the staff are aware. It's also unlikely that you're the only party at the restaurant which booked through dimmi.

    • It also says 50% off on your booking confirmation. Just to allay any final concerns after you book.

  • Nothing for Darwin?

  • Not much selection for Sydney or nothing that is good in my eyes.

    • I wish there was more outside of Sydney CBD or immediate surrounds - nothing in the south where i live for example (only 1 in Cronulla, which is only sort-of-south)

Perfect, was looking for a place for my wife's birthday which is on a Wednesday night and was able to use this! Thanks wongsun :-)

    • +3

that -sounds- like a good idea… these 50% off / Groupon offers means my wifey and I go to places we'd never visit otherwise, found some real gems!

I tried using a 50% off for her bday few months back, and strangely, Wife said "you know, sometimes it would be nice to pay full price for dinner", which I thought was a bit funny :)

      YMMV .. good luck! :)

      • +4

LOL, my friend (the banker ironically) said the same thing, and asked when was the last time I paid full price for food.

Grandpa would have a stroke if he knew, as he believes discounts and offers make you a second rate citizen.

        • +1

aint no one got budget fo dat

      • +3

Yeah, I wasn't going to mention the 50% off. Just tell her she can order whatever she wants!

        • +1

Pro tip - you might want to approach your waiter on the sly, and ask them not to mention the discount. At the same time, I've told them the dinner is for a special occasion and asked "can you bring over <fancy drink> for us?" Then when Wife asks "where did you go?" and then <fancy drink> appears, you can be honest about why you were speaking to the staff, plus you get bonus Wife points for being Thoughtful ;)

Couple times, when I've been passed the bill, staff cheerily stated "oh you save 50% thanks to Dimmi!", which might put a dampener on your best laid plans!

Meat & Wine Co in Southbank (VIC), the deal only applies to their 5 course degustation. Nomally $110. It doesn't apply to anything else.

    • Looks like same in Meat & Wine Co in Barrangaroo (NSW). Don't know what's included in that menu. Google isn't bringing much or I am not trying hard enough to find!

      • +2

Not sure if this applies to the NSW one but found this one for Southbank.

Get 50% off the 5 Course Degustation Tasting Menu, curated by Peter Popow worth $55 per person (normally worth $110 per person)! Kindly note, this offer is not valid in conjunction with any other offers.

        Salmon
Sous Vide beetroot, cauliflower custard, whiskey cured salmon

        Croquette
Biltong croquette, hazelnut, jalapeno mayonnaise, caperberries

        Octopus
Charred octopus, warm potato, lemon, parsley

        Wagyu Rump

        Bombe Alaska

        • +5

Do we still get free wine if we pay with citibank? lol

    • FYI - went to this tasting menu the other night and it really was fantastic. Easily worth the $55. Good portions, and every single dish hit the mark. Highly recommend this one.

  • +6

I do hope they add more places. What I really want to know is if the offer is valid on those set banquet menus.

Notes - Hunter & Barrel - Eastland has a $40 set menu (that's the dimmi offer).

    We've been to…
Mister Bianco, Kew - Italian, recommended though they do small portions
South Wharf Meat Market, South Wharf - steak night! bring a coat, freezing out there
Bohemian Wine Bar, South Wharf - average
Henry and the Fox - average

These places do the 50% off when it's not 50% month too, so you could do these anytime:
Barolo, Camberwell - Very good Italian, but don't get the seafood
Marmara Restaurant, Windsor - Turkish, love this place
Ciao Ciao Italiano, Prahran - pizza, good, he loved the affagato
Kuku Mama, Windsor - been three times, food was really good but got worse and worse

    I've booked for…
    Akachochin, South Wharf (haven't been)
South Wharf Meat Market, South Wharf - been before x2

    • Thanks for sharing. I was just googling and looking at the reviews and can't decide which 1 to book

    • +1

Akachochin is fusion Japanese. Overpriced and very average food.

      • Thanks, I was iffy as it's freezing out there!

    • Thanks for the info. I have booked Barolo. Was looking to order Grilled barramundi but you mentioned don't get seafood. Is this included? Rdgs.

      • The fish should be ok, had mussels - it smelt like pee - in my mouth!! Got very sick from it.

        • Thanks for sharing. Our family liked fish very much.

  • I haven't been to any of these… Any recommendations for Brisbane for an anniversary dinner? The fancier ones seems to be more focused on steaks, and the French one seems to have mixed reviews.

    • +1

Most of the ones on the list are a bit meh. From experience, Moda's probably your best bet for a special-ish occasion. I'd suggest avoiding IndiMex like the plague, and I haven't heard very many good things about Tumbling Stone apart from the service by the wait staff.

      • Yeah, that's what I felt too. Didn't end up booking anything.

    • If you don't mind the drive to Gold Coast, maybe Bazaar at QT? I haven't been there myself but have heard very good reviews. They say it's all-you-can-eat but with a gourmet twist? with some food items cooked to order and a wide spread offering different experience to your regular buffet. Mmmm I have actually been interested to go for a while myself so this half price deal may finally give me the push.

  • Booked Monzarella earlier on and then I
    got a text message.
    Hi….
Brad from Monzarella Restaurant in Williamstown
In regards to your booking that you have made through Dimmi, there has been a typo with the 50% off, it should be 20% off.
We would like to offer you 20% off (excludes specials and seafood). We would also like to offer a free focaccia on arrival.

Please note that your booking through Dimmi has been automatically canceled.
Please let me know if you would like to book by responding to the message.

Sorry for an inconveniences this may have caused.

    Kind regards
    Brad

    • Well it's great that they told you, instead of telling you after :)

    • The restaurants often change daily during the promo so keep checking back

  • Booked Meat & Wine Co for my mum's bday! Their tasting menu is usually $110!

    • You're going to love it. I'm considering going back a second time. If you're the type of person who enjoys a sauce with your steak, the blue cheese was a balanced and flurry aeration, worth a try on the side.

  • +4

    Just a warning.

DO NOT EAT AT "THE BUTCHER AND THE FARMER".
the tasting menu is nowhere near the stated value, and was altogether disappointing and embarrassing for me having organised a group outing.

Meanwhile, "Meat and Wine co" was amazing. Highly recommended.

I wrote a comment on this post complaining that the choice of 50% off restaurants was very limited on the GC. ONE!! Normally there are half a dozen at least. That comment was negged so many times the moderator deleted it!! Get a brain trolls.

  • Booked through Dimi at Queen Street Rescue in Melbourne city tonight. Had a great meal here! Took the family we had the crispy chicken burger, wagyu burger with fries and meat lovers pizza. Really yummy food. Friendly service too.

Went to the Meat Market, pretty good. Steaks.

^ luckily that didn't happen, cause my friends are flakey.

  • Just had a good meal at Silvester's for about $200
However, only got a discount of $50 because supposedly, it is 50% off up to $50.

Is this in the terms and cinditions?

    • +1

Hmm, i think you got ripped off.

Nothing i can see in the T&Cs that indicate that.

I would send Dimmi an email to clarify and possible get a refund.

      • Could it be that it is only 50% for main dishes?
We got the chef's special which was exactly $100 and the rest was shampagne and cappucinos.

        • 50% off food only.

          Drinks are not included.

        • Dimmi says all food, but some places restrict it to mains only. Or even savory food only.

        • @anastasiastarz:

I would be outraged if the restaurant i went tried that on me.

        • @stoodamire: So there's a high tea place that tried to do that. Runya's Room said it's only for savory food. Short Black (Camberwell) said it's mains only. Dimmi said it applies to all, but can't enforce it/can't back you up.

    • +2

Do a proper read of the terms and condition for your booking. Most are 50% off food only, some are off the set menu only, and some actually include drinks too.

While you were mistaken this time, I have had other instances of the restaurant being in the wrong.

It can be worth gently challenging them at the time, "oh, why 50%, did I miss something in the fine print, show me please? Nothing in the fine print, oh, well what can we do about this unfortunate situation ?".

Be prepared to simply say "I'll pay the discounted bill, or I'll pay nothing, but I'm not honouring a bill other than the one I agreed to with the booking". Don't worry, they won't call the cops, and even if they did the cops will never come.

I actually make a point before ordering to explain to the restaurant that I have a Dimmi booking and to confirm what is is included and what is excluded. Embarrassment at the start beats embarrassment at the end.

  • Does dessert count as food?

    • Depends on the place.

    • I've never had a place exclude desert as food, unless it's a desert wine.
