Is This Connection Possible?

Hi all,

I'm planning a flight from Iceland to Kuala Lumpur on 2 different airlines, chronological itinerary as below:

Icelandair Airline
Iceland -> Heathrow (layover 2 hrs 25 mins)

Qatar Airline
Heathrow -> Doha (layover 1 hr 15 mins)
Doha -> Kuala Lumpur

Because I'm flying different airlines, it won't be a true "connecting" flight and my worry is that 2 hrs and 25 mins in Heathrow will not be enough time for me to:
- land
- go through immigration
- collect baggage
- go through customs
- travel from Terminal 2 to Terminal 4
- check-in
- go through immigration
- go through security checks
- go to boarding gate

Furthermore there is no leeway for delays.

Or is this possible?

Many thanks!

  • I wouldn’t risk it. You can easily spend an hour going through UK immigration & customs.

Heathrow can be messy. It once took me 2 hours to clear through customs and security…

You'd be pushing it with 2.5 hours - I'd try another connecting flight with a longer transit time.

  • Not a hope in hell! Remember check in for your second flight will close an hour before departure, even if it is just bag drop.

  • Not a chance.

You’ll need at least 20 minutes to drive to terminal 4 along with Heathrow immigration add another hour, get your bags probably 20 mins.

  • No way risk it.

If on a codeshare partner ticket (eg one world, star alliance etc) the airlines have an obligation to look after you.

Otherwise you will be left to your own devices and probably lose the ongoing flight if you miss it.

Haha okay, resounding no. Glad I asked!

Next option, 18 hr layover in London!

OP's next post is: What to do in London for a 18 hr transit?
