Woolworths - Bhuja Buyers Beware ($1.92 Item Scanned as $1.93)

The Bhuja snacks that are $1.92 in this week's catalog are scanning at $1.93. I bought 5 and noticed the error at the self serve checkout. I called the attendant and pointed this out. His response was "it's only a cent". My inner ozbargainer felt challenged at that point and I made sure I won't pay a cent extra and got him to adjust the price.

So yeah, if you like Bhuja, make sure you are not paying extra.

That's outrageous. I'm boycotting Woolies and refuse to eat food until justice has prevailed. I demand satisfaction, sir!

You're kidding! First we're turning into a nanny state. Now they're taking our cents away?! OUTRAGEOUS.

Thanks for wasting my time. I want my 59 seconds back, please?

    • +19

Hand in your ozbargain license on the way out.

    • +11

59 seconds? Did you read the OP twice and do a spell check?

      • Included: googled bhuja & replying back. 58.6542 seconds to be precise, rounded up to nearest number.

Yup, neggers has no sense of humours & stiff as solid space poos. :D :D :D

Here, have my 2 cents, no charge. :)

Bloody sharks out to get you everywhere

    • +2

Recouping money for 15c bags by stealth.

  • +3

If you were paying cash I presume that $1.93 would round up to $1.95 instead of $1.92 down to $1.90 so actually it’s 5 cents difference.

Worth a civil war I reckon!

  • +14

the first item should be free.

    • +1

Maybe I should post it as a bargain ;)

  • -1

Buy only two with cash. 2@$1.92 = $3.84 and 2@$1.93=$3.86, both round to $3.85.

    • -2

You need to pay for them separately, so they get rounded down at $1.92

  • +14

Don't you get it for free or half price if it scans at the wrong price? Didn't insist on your rights hard enough it seems.

    • +3

YES, I agree, I thought/believe that the Australian Scanning Code of Practice states clearly on all stickers at checkouts that if an item scans at a higher price the retailer has provide the item free of charge.

      • You're correct - but this isn't mandatory. It's not a requirement for all retailers, simply a 'code of practice' which however, Woolworths does abide by. So at the very least, OP was entitled to the first item that scanned incorrectly for free, and subsequent items at the correct price.

  • +2

Daily Mail are all over this and running a major story on it.

  • If you reported the error after you paid, you would've gotten one free ( provided they're still adhering to the scanning code).

    Not ozbargainry enough.

    • +4

If they are adhering to the scanning policy, you don't have to had paid for the item for it to apply.
You only need to mention it to the cashier or self serve attendant at the point of purchase.

If the item scans at a higher price than the shelf ticket, you're entitled to it free of charge up to a maximum threshold of $30(?) and the second item (and so forth) at the reduced price.

OP, I sincerely hope that you got your Bhuja snacks for free.

      • What happens if

You buy one item and they accidentally scan it twice.. so then you are charged for 2 items when you only bought one

        • If the cashier notices it, they can remove it before you pay or you can mention it at the service desk. They should be happy to refund it for you.

        • @crayner:

oh right… so your not entitled to the product scanned (incorrectly) for free

      • What happens if you buy different flavours from the same range? Do you get the first of each flavour free if they overcharge you because of different barcodes? Or just the one free?

  • Tracy Grimshaw wants this story now!

    OP is bored.

    • +6

Yeah. Was bored. You folks made it entertaining.

  • Half the time I expect my items to be scanned wrong these days. Never had it at the other place I lived, but now these local Woolies and Coles are atrocious. Tickets left up, moved, etc. so my scans are coming up wonky. The dairy products are either off (literally, by a month sometimes) or they taste like they've been left out for a long period of time.

I buy my groceries pretty much exclusively at Coles, and marked down items regularly scan at the normal price. Maybe 10-20% of the time. So I ALWAYS check the sales docket and regularly get wrongly scanned items for free (just the first one if more than one bought). That's one of the perks of shopping at Coles.

What really annoys me is that a cashier often plays dumb and just tries to charge you the reduced price (i.e. refunds the difference) or gives you a refund and keeps the item. In other words, they pretend they don't know Coles' scanning policy, which is absurd given the regularity that items are wrongly scanned. Anyway, I stand my ground and demand to speak to their supervisor or the store manager if they continue to play dumb. I invariably get the item for free.

If I'm reading the comments correctly this should be moved to the deal section before they correct it.

free Bhuja snack due to pricing error

  • Should have been free then. When the price is higher than what advertised on the shelves they are supposed to reimbursed you. Not really a bargain if you missed on a freebies.

  • All those cents add up for Woolworthless, that is, after all their thousands or customers pay the extra cent (or extra 3 cents if you're paying cash).

You can write a coherent sentence for starters. I cbf checking your form though, so may be mistaken.
          In which case, well played!

  • Tried it today. Scanned at the correct price.

    Oh dear. Thats terrible
Report the matter to the dept of fair trading
take them to court and sue for damages

    • Please don't trivialise his post. If you can't say anything constructive and just came to comment and be sarcastic then just don't. ok?

    • Thanks for the suggestion.

  • For those saying its only a cent: If Woolworths "accidently" set this one cent higher and half a million people got sucked in Woolworths just made $5,000

    • It is only a cent.

Woolworths sales were 55 Billion and 36 Billion for Food. $5000 is not even a rounding error.

    • +1

stupid point, $5000 is nothing for Woolworths

    • +1

OP should have gotten the item for free based on policy and principal - but $5000 really is absolutely nothing for Woolworths. It's chum change. This isn't some conspiracy to shaft consumers, it's just a legit mistake. The people that work at Woolworths are still just regular humans like you and I, mistakes happen.

    • " … Woolworths just made $5,000."

Which equals the total salary cost for 10 shelf stackers for three weeks.

  • it's daylight robbery

  • That makes no damn cents. I would've accused them of casual racism and asked to talk with the manager.

  • OMG i bought a packet today from Woolies, i forgot to check the scan price….. wtf
