$15 Free PSN/Xbox Store Credit When You Trade in Any Game over $5 Towards $15 PSN/Xbox Credit @ EB Games

810

Basically a repeat of this deal not too long ago.

Here are some notes from the last deal -

  • Game's value must be over $5.
  • Only Xbox One, PS4, Switch and 3DS games can be traded in.
  • First 10,000 customers only.
  • Despite EB's wording, 1000 V-Bucks (Fornite's in-game currency) is equivalent to $15 in Xbox/PSN credit and will be given as such, since there is no redemption code for V-Bucks themselves.

Most importantly, $5 from the game's value must be traded towards Xbox/PSN credit.
Example; Game's initial trade value is $8. The monies you'll be given are as follows - $15 Xbox credit, $5 Xbox credit and $3 in EB Games credit/giftcard (remainder of the $8).

List of games that have $5+ in value (posted 3.5 months ago, prices may vary) - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/374684?page=1#comment-5893…

T&C's from the email I got-

10 MILLION VBUCKS: 1000 V-Bucks provided as digital credit. EB Trade policy applies. Must trade at least one PS4, Xbox One, Switch, or 3DS game with a minimum trade value of $5. Offer valid once per person. Not to be combined with any other offer except EB World. See staff for details.

Has anyone tried it? Please give us few names of game trading over $5 .

  • I have a lot of 360 games to offload, but I don't think many of them will be worth more than $5.

    • Only Xbox One, PS4, Switch and 3DS games can be traded in.

Would've been good if they allowed multiple trade ins to the value of $5 or above.

    • No 360 games allowed according to post

  • +2

I assume you can also get Nintendo eShop credit since it's out on Switch now. Last time they did this deal it you could get iTunes credit.

    • Would love if someone could confirm whether eshop credit can be given as I'd love to offload an unused PS4 game for eshop credit

      • +2

        eShop credit is definitely applicable

  • Will definitely be doing this if they let me get eShop vouchers.

I've already sunk 80+ hours into Fortnite Switch after saying "that game sucks, I don't like it at all" for a year or so.

But the eShop vouchers won't be spent on Fortnite. If there's one thing I've learned in my time playing it, it's that their pricing is (profanity) lunacy. 2000 VBucks for one simple costume? 2000 VB = 30 real life dollars. For a costume. Mmm no thanks. I'm down to spend some dosh on the game, I've killed a good 80 hours like I said, but that is just (profanity) ridiculous for a cosmetic.

    More like, cosTmetic, amirite? lulz.

    • +3

      Wow

      • It's ridiculous hey.

Obviously it's working, they make a metric shit tonne off the game every month, but Jebus, how can people be so willing to spend so much? I'm sure a lot of it is kids, but surely not all of it, it's crazy.

    • There's a starter pack that's literally $6 or so for a costume + 600 vbucks.

      • And that's it. The next "cheapest" option of purchase is 1000 VBucks for 15 bucks (on Switch, I think it's like 50 cents less on Xbox or whatever, although while on that, the pack you mention is 7.50 on Switch, pricing differences are hella weird since there's cross play involved and they transfer between the two) which is HALF of ONE of the DAILY costumes you can buy. It's crazy.

        • +2

          And that's it.

There are some free skins if you sign up to amazon prime, even with a free 30-day trial.

        • +1

Or a battle pass for 950 vbucks - a one off payment of $15 (for 1500 vbucks) or $6 + accumulation.

That gives you enough to unlock heaps of skins and cosmetics and you can save up enough for the season after.

Not saying it's a wise investment by any means, but you can do a lot better than what you are saying.

        • @pennypincher98:

This is what I did and it works great. Pay $15 to get the vbucks and unlock the Battlepass. If you complete the weekly/daily challenges unlocked with Battlepass, you can earn back the vbucks which will allow you to purchase next season's Battlepass too.

I don't ever put money into free games, however the Battlepass makes it way more fun and I have enjoyed the game enough that I think the devs deserve it. I did the same thing when I got Rocket League for free on PS4 when it was first released (i.e. bought some cars because I had no problem contributing to the devs).

  • Is this good value? If the game your trading in would only net you at least $15 or less on eBay after fees and postage than I guess it's worthwhile. I'd appreciate the eshop credit to purchase something new because after getting about 6 hours into hollow knight which I was really digging, I could no longer stomach the park bench respawn point distance to boss fight/difficult platforming puzzle sequence that I keep dying at. This will go down well if U can find something to trade

  • Does anyone know how long will the 10k limit last, looking at the previous deal?

    • +2

I think it lasted a week and a half.

    • +1

      Maybe 2-3 days, I forgot

    • Between 1 and 2 weeks last time. However it may go quicker this time :)

  • Can I trade need for speeds, knack, trials fusion, cod ghosts, cod advanced warfare or no man's sky for voucher and last time I traded in battlefield 4 for $20 voucher and said that I just made it in.

  • So I can trade old games, for PSN credit to use for 1YR PS + Membership?

  • Fallout 4 has dropped in price. It’s just barely made it past the $5.
(Traded one in when’s a crash bandicoot came out on Xb1)

  • +2

    EB is scum

  • -1

Who is on the negging campaign? Give a reason.

  • +5

Last time I heard the developers were making $160 mil a month in game purchases.
I’m one of those dads who is a D#uck for shelling out for kid to buy vbucks. My kid tells me if you don’t have a costume then players dislike you and bully you in the game and don’t want in their squad.
Oh the good ol days of playing my Commodore 64. The only bullies were the bosses in the game.

    • Over a billion to date this year alone

    • +4

players dislike you and bully you in the game and don’t want in their squad.

      … Seriously?

That aside, there's some free skins if you sign up to amazon prime. Even works with a free 30-day trial.

    • +11

I would rather consider buying your kids a spine

      • -2

        You're a (profanity)

    • +2

You haven't worked out that children are manipulative ****heads yet?

    • Good to hear the IRL add on treated you better than it treated others :)

  • better to sell AC Origins or trade it in this deal?

also in this deal, do I get both Vbucks and $15?

    • +3

      You don't get v-bucks.

You instead get $15 in Xbox/PSN credit to spend on v-bucks (or anything else, really).

      • I guess 1000 made up money sells better than 15 bucks that you can spend on anything.

        • It's what the kids are raving about.

          (man, I sound old don't I?)

  • +1

If you don’t know how much your game will trade in for you can give EB a call and they will tell you the price of the game.

  • I'm a bit confused, you get a 15 Xbox voucher straight up, then they give you 5 of the games trade on top of the previous 15? Then the remaining in Eb credit?

    • +2

      Almost.

Eb requires you to trade a game towards v-bucks, which is $5 worth. In my example in the OP, instead of $8 on EB credit (as per normal) + $15 Xbox credit, it'll be $5 on Xbox credit, $3 on EB and the bonus $15 Xbox credit.

      • I see, thank you for your help!

  • +1

…should have kept 1 or 2 of my games for this trade.

Too late now, traded all my 3ds, xb1, ps4, wii u past 3 years collection to ebgames.

Well guess you can't win all the time.

  • I'm curious, I play on PC but own a xbox one I've used twice in three years but have a bunch of games is there anyway I could redeem the code and get the vbucks on PC?

    • Could get the Xbox credit, boot up Fortnite on Xbox one and sign in using your PC account, then redeem the credit and purchase the v-bucks there.

Since the game is cross-platform, the v-bucks should show up back on the PC

      • +1

I managed to trade in a game and pay 70 cents ontop and get two $15 gift vouchers and had to buy a 2day code to access fortnite online and I've got the vbucks on PC, thanks man.

  • Can we definitely do this trade for vbucks again ? ie. If we calimed on last deal, will we still claim again now .

    • +1

      Yes.

    • +1

      Definitely

  • Wonder if they'll give Nintendo Eshop cards as well, now Fortnite is out there too

    • Can confirm they do, got mine today!

  • So if I trade 3 valued at $5 for example, I'd get $15 free(once) + another $15 ($5x3 games) for psn credit, correct? Or is is $15 free credit per game too, in addition to the $5 per game? The latter sounds too good to be true.

    • It needs to be a game over $5 (which means not one of those games which most people don't want). My guess is that it would one of those games that you could sell on feeBay for >$15 (but you need to go through the trouble posting it - and quite possibly non-trackable type postage - otherwise it costs too much).

It is basically a quick sell of a game, except you get voucher credits.

    • If I recall correctly, it's one game per transaction, not per person.

Best to take a separate trip for each game.

      • One per person unfortunately.

  • +1

Just did one earlier, took a few games just in case. Don't know how much the EB World Bonus plays into it, so just for reference I'm Level 4 with the 20% extra.

    Confirmed NOT >$5:

Deus Ex Mankind Divided (Xbox One)
    Has-Been Heroes (Xbox One)

    Confirmed >$5:

    WWE 2K15 (Xbox One) - $5.8

Came out to a final total of $22.20. ($15 in Xbox Credit, $5 in Xbox Credit and $2.20 in EB giftcard, which I turned into another $5 Xbox Credit.)

    • Do you have to use EB world. I want to go to a few stores as it's one per person

      • Hard to say. I remember them saying a while back you'd need to use the EB World card when returning games, so it might be necessary for trading too. Back in the day I used to run a loop of the stores in Melbourne, purchasing and trading games on release when they had their offers (usually made something like $20 credit profit off each trade) and used my EB Card at each store. Never ran into issue with the "one per person" restriction, so I'd say you won't run into any issues if you do have to use it.

Traded in the last guardian (PS4) and paid $2 in exchange for $25 worth of PSN vouchers. Summary of my transaction:

    Item Price
The last guardian (PS4) - Trade In 8.00
    1000 V-Bucks Promotion 15.00
    Cash paid 2.00
    $15 PSN Voucher (15.00)
    $10 PSN Voucher (10.00)

I am entry level EB World member (level 1 - zero benefit for trade-ins). EB store staff would recommend paying the difference to get the nearest $5 mark for the second voucher - because it is the easiest way for them to finalise the transaction. You probably can use the less than $5 amount towards a EB voucher or a store item purchase should you choose to do so.

    • So they still gave you the $8 trade in for your game plus the $15 credit, that seems a bit stupid on there behalf if you ask me, i would have thought they would take $5 from the $8 leaving you with $3 plus the $15 credit then if you wanted you could pay another $7 for the extra $10 credit.

      • No, it is basically: buy a $20 XBox or PSN voucher at 66.6% discount ($5) except you must pay the $5 using a trade-in game worth more than $5. Anything over $5 can be exchanged as store credit or used towards another purchase in store.

Realistically, considered how little EB paid for the game I traded in, for me, it was basically trade in an old game at an okay overall price to EB and get that amount in PSN or XBox vouchers. It really depends on the game you trade in. For example, it wouldn't be worthwhile for me to trade in God of War PS4.

  • +1

Trade in values for following games at EBGAMES:
    Fallout 4 - XBOX - $5.50
    The Division - XBOX - $5.50
    Watch Dogs 2 - XBOX - $10.00

  • +2

Thanks OP what a great deal.

Just traded in Knack 2 on PS4, which I bought for $20 from JB as part of those 2 for $40 deals.

Was given $13 trade in + 15% for level 3 so $14.95 then she said we'll just make it $15

Walked out with 2 x $15 PSN vouchers paying nothing

  • +3

Also works towards Nintendo eShop credit, by the way.
I can't remember everything but I'm level 3, walked out with a $30 card for $9.90 I think, traded in a game with a base value of $5 (New Style Boutique 3DS, thanks to my ex for leaving it behind last year!)

  • Confirmed: Star Wars Battlefront $6 trade in value

Have the digital Ultimate Edition anyway from the PSN promo a while back so this was a no brainer.

  • +1

    i just traded in :

    Batman 3 ( lego )
    Titanfall 2
    Knack
    Wolfenstein Old Blood

Each one was worth $6 + 10% level bonus

    So paid $8.4 + $6.60 ( trade ) and got $30 xbox credit

Did it 4 times , they didnt really care , lovely people so helpful

  • Just traded In NBA 2k17 and The Uncharted Collection, paid the extra 70 cents and walked out with $30 PSN credit, winning!!!!

    • Just for note too NBA 2k17 was $6 trade in

  • +1

Just remember kids, if they wanna block you from doing more than one or two like they did me and my buddy, it's NOT an EB World exclusive offer, meaning you can do it without their stupid card and they have no idea how many you've done.

    • I am hoping to get some EB World carrots as well. Still on level 1 and long way from reaching level 2. Even though I generally prefer to buy game related products from other places.

  • Done it 3 times already. Bought itunes credit which is 15% off. Trade a game worth $10 and get a $30 itunes card.

    Hitman $15
    Crash Trilogy $30
    Last of Us $10

    • Same store?

      • Two of them were but different days.

  • Trade in values for following games at EBGAMES:
    GTA 5 - XBOX - $20.00
    Wild lands - XBOX - $10.00

I paid an extra $3 and I received $65 in Xbox Live Credit.

  • Traded in Uncharted The Lost Legacy. Ended up paying extra 70c for a total of $30 credit. Not bad considering I bought the game for $20

  • Trade in price:

Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright 3DS $13
    Watch dog 2 PS4 $9
    Journey Collection PS4 $10

  • My Switch now has just over 200 bucks on it's account, for a total out of pocket cost of just under 40 bucks (including the cost of the games I traded to the deal).

So massive thanks to you, Silverrat. Absolute legend.

Missed out last time as I've gone off my PS4 completely, my Xbox is kept happy with Game Pass / Gold, and it wasn't available for Switch back then, where I primarily game at the moment. Had to make sure I made up for missing out.

    • ummm how?

      • +1

Yesterday the missus and I were out for dinner with a friend. Traded one in myself, she traded one in, and the buddy did for us as well. Each game was from the JB $1 bargain bin a few weeks back, traded for 13, 14, and 12.50… thus making the cost 3 bucks for the games, and 5.50 to bump the stack up to a nice round 45 bucks in 3x$45 eShop vouchers. Then add in the bonus 15 for each game and you're up to 90 bucks eShop credit for a grand total cost of 8.50.

Then today we were out for lunch and did another 2 between, then about an hour later when we were about to leave, went back and someone new was on the til, did it again (carted around a small bag of the cheap shitty tradey games in the pram). Did another two about an hour and a half or so back when we had to make a quick run to the shops to buy the bread I forgot to grab. I haven't gone over the full cost/benefit ratio on today, but out of pocket my estimate puts us at around 30 odd bucks, thus amounting to the 40 dollar figure I gave earlier.

Edit, see the warrior's post beneath mine. It's easy to make a nice chunk of change on this deal.

        • Thanks for the detailed response.

I'm curious, what $1 game was it that you bought from the bargain bin?

        • @first in line: JB Knox were doing it a month or so back, and the girl at the register said most of the ones in the area were too, last time I was there though, the games were a lot less "valuable" unfortunately, but your mileage may vary.

The games I got from the first pile were
Madden 15. Traded on the E3 50% bonus toward preorders deal, got around 13 something each.
The Division. 9 or so with the bonuses I believe. Came to GamePass and didn't need anymore.
Watch Dogs 2. 9 before 20% bonus, so 10.80 for that, they got traded today.
Watch Dogs 1… Just bought this because I liked the game and a buck is a buck. Felt like replaying.
Fallout 4 for the missus, then it came to GamePass and traded it in this deal too, got 5.50 or so IIRC, she traded that one.

There was a few others too. Outside of buying all 3 copies of Madden after phoning and checking they pulled a reasonable amount, the other games I genuinely just bought to own, Div and Fallout coming to GamePass rendered them unnecessary and WD2 I wanted to give another chance but I can't stomach the hipster douchebag cast so I'm happy to be rid of it.

  • Did another few today, racked up nearly $150 in Xbox Credit. Hoping to do a few more tomorrow before this thing wraps up.

    Confirmed >$5:

    Doom
    Dishonoured 2
    Ghost Recon: Wildlands
    Watchdogs 2
    Rainbox Six: Siege

    • Do you know the exact prices for doom, Rainbow six and Dishonored 2?

  • Does anyone know if I trade in PS4 Games will I get to chose if I can get Xbox one or PS4 gift cards? Eg. i trade in 5 games over $5, ask 3 to be xbox live and 2 psn?

    • Yes you can.

      • ok thanks. also just to add on has anyone been able to trade in a bunch of games in one transaction?

    • You can trade in a PS4 game towards Xbox live currency definitely. However, the deal is one per person

      • Ok thanks, i'll try trade in a bunch tomorrow in seperate transactions. If that doesnt work i'll just trade in one game and go to another EB

        • +1

That’s my plan too. I think this deal has been confusing to understand and the store promo poster doesn’t even explain it clearly at all. Hopefully this means the promo can go on longer as fewer people would take advantage of the offer. Which mean we can visit store multiple times

        • @first in line: update : tried at EB games, guy was going to trade in all 12 of my games but the other lady worker said Sorry no, one per person 😩😤. Going to go to another EB and see if I can trade in the rest of the 11. Traded in a game, guy gave me $20 psn credit and 50c eb games gift card.
Now I can’t even redeem the code online. :(

        • @F4ncy2: why? Code invalid?

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod: yea not sure why. went back in and asked the worker why, he said 9 out of 10 times it works better on PS4… but I’ve never had problems redeeming a code on my phone. Going to try on my PS4 tonight.

        • @F4ncy2:

I asked whether I can trade in 6 games using this offer. The staff said sure. Then when he sorted out everything the total credit received seemed low. Turns out he only gave me $15 credit for the first game and nothing for the rest.

          V_V

So I cancelled it and trade the one game.

        • @first in line: at least ya didn't have to reach $15 to get the $15

        • @first in line: I think most of the staff know by now it’s one per person. A bit annoying but if they’re loyal enough they’ll maybe stack the deal for a few more games hopefully. Going to another EB, wish me luck lol.
