would benson approve of this cable?

      • No mention of 56K Ohm resistor therefore i would be hesitant in using this cable.

    • Don't forget this piece:

the life with one cable to satisfy all your devices could not be better

    • data wiring ….it says charge cable so crap for data, probably not USB 3.0.

Just as we though USC-C would also give faster data transfers, seem the cables will limit us to USB 2.0.

    No Benson or USB-IF approval.

    • +1

Saying no Benson approval isn't fair considering he stopped doing reviews years ago!

      • -1

        or USB-IF

        • No Benson

        • @Clear:

          Who's benson

        • -1

@Clear: Benson was doing his thing before the USB-IF "took over." Anyway, no need to be so pedantic.

        • @McFly: The real story is that his employer did not like him doing it… aka Google. Besides it's being pedantic when USB-IF certification and Benson approval are not required.

        • @Clear:

It's not being pedantic. If the cable doesn't meet the spec, then it can damage things.

I'd be wary of this one because it claims '3A'. A USB-C to USB-A cable that is coded for 3A is not permitted by the USB spec, and could damage some USB ports (depends on what you plug into it, though).

Of course, it might just be marketing nonsense and the cable could be fine.

        • @JMC: Under the legacy cable specifications a USB Type-C to USB Type-A is allowed to draw 3A if it has a 56kΩ resistor. If it does not have the resistor then there is the risk of damaging your device.

As for how safe this cable is? Gococomma is a sister brand of Alfawise with both brands being owned by Gearbest, so you would hope that they're fine. Infact looking at the factories that pump out generic cables for brands to slap their logo on…. they all seem to be using the resistor.

        • @Clear: I don't think that's right. The 56k resistor limits the current to the default USB values of 0.5A (USB 2.0) or 0.9A (USB-3), unless the charger signals otherwise.

          A "3A" cable implies a 10k pull-up resistor, which isn't allowed on a USB-C to USB-A cable.

        • @JMC: That's going off the information sent to me by USB-IF as a member 😉 Or you're right and I misread it.

  • Perfect, my old usb-c died last night and i needed to pull out the backup!

  • Thanks OP, worked for me fine :)
