Rep, Is this deal actually going to run for the length shown? Messaged you twice about the last deal you posted where the code wasn't working and you never replied!

Please confirm which system you were interested in previously?

      Kind Regards,

  • Rep, is this camera has true detect or thermal sensor?

    • Hi

No this unit does not have that feature.

      Kind regards

This or better to go with a hikvision? Any comparisons?

Swann seems to get a bad rap where as hik are the web's favourite

    • To compare Swann vs Hikvision I think it is best to just look up Hikvision components on eBay and build a system yourself with cameras and a NVR (or use an old laptop). We use Hikvision at work and they are very good.

    • Also check out dahua. Used to purchase Hikvision but have been very impressed with dahua recently. Cheaper and just as good in my opinion

      • Have you got a source supplier that has the international English firmware support. That allows for firmware upgrades?

  • Thanks for your comments.

Swann has been protecting families, homes and businesses for 30 years, and was started here in Melbourne. Rest assured we’re Australia’s #1 DIY security brand and support every product with a 12 month warranty, easy set-up assistance online and via our community.

I had the swann nvr4-7400 after being recommended by an electrician.

It’s absolute crap, closed system, no firmware support (although they updated the 8 channel. Version).

Does really dumb stuff, sends email alerts with a picture captured a minute before motion was detected. Motion picks up wind but not sensitive enough to detect people.

Replaced with hikvision and just stream to a NAS and low quality to google cloud. I don’t know if hikvision are just good or ordinary, I just know the swann nvr system is so slow it’s useless.

In all fairness the swann iOS app worked well.
Swann link for Windows was crap, had to use reolink to export sound.

      "being recommended by an electrician."

You could've asked a bank teller about what system to get. Their knowledge of CCTV is on par with electricians.

      • True, however they did advertise specialising in cctv systems. He was right about the POE.

If you put the closed system aside the camera quality is great, I just found the nvr (same as this deal except 4 ports) uselesss as crap and the cameras are useless without it

Apparently there is 3rd party firmware available, but every time a link is posted on the swann support it’s taken down.

        • FYI Swann (and other brands sold by amazon) rebadge both hikvision and dahua hardware with their own app.

The problems you described is setting related. Email notification may be turned off or tweaked using the GUI app. Motion sensitivity may also adjusted by disabling zones. All of this may be found on the manual.

        • @whooah1979:
Whooah1979, I am aware of masking and the sensitivity adjustments.
The nvr4-700 has known firmware issues, unfortunately swann released the update for the nvr8-7400 only (this model), which addresses some of the issues.
I did not fix the sensitivity issues. (ie: wind setting them off, but you could quickly walk by. When I say wind, I am not referring to leaves, or trees rustling, more like an invisible insect flew by.

The software can not identify basic objects such as people or cars, which is expected functionality in this price range.

Yes, Swann do rebaged other brands, however the units in this deal are NOT rebaged hikvision or dahua, so your reply is misleading.

I would just encourage consumers to shop around, and consider units not LOCKED down \ crippled by firmware.
You can access basic rtsp streams (main and sub), but you won't have access to audio. SWANN also cripple the cameras ability to alert directly (by-passing the NVR), which functionality was included by the original manufacturer.

Reolink also sell the same rebadged hardware, with slightly better functioning firmware. I use their software over swann link view so I can extract audio. (again known issue on the swann web site and forum). Swann just don't address basic issues.

Most NAS devices have great software in-built which blows the SWANN NVR out of the water. I even tried to find other NVR's which would work with the cams (avoid having to get up and replace them), but no these were so locked down I needed to replace.

I didn't mention that the NVR is extremely noisy. For a security product this makes no sense, as it is easy to locate.

Plus is the POE camera's. The cams can all be connected to a POE switch in the roof and have a single cable back to the unit.

This unit may suite businesses, I wouldn't recommend for home use due to the sensitivity issues and noise.
Price is about what this is worth, not a bargain, but your not getting ripped off either.
