these are made in Portugal, and not England
Blake stitched construction, better than cemented
they are better value than your Florsheims, Hush Puppies etc, but obviously not the top grade leather like more expensive shoes
I could be wrong but they usually sell for $149 (no they were never $199)

Free shipping with code EMAILFD, credit to DJKelly for the code
don't forget 5.6% cashback from cashrewards

In addition there are a few other shoes/ boots from $100-$150 mark
if not labelled Made in Portugal/ England, then they are probably made in India/ China
hope you find something you like :)

You could also get 3 shirts for $99 as a separate purchase, from Doweyy's post

Can also use code EMAILFD for free shipping over $100 if you are not buying any shirts.

    • Thanks, I will amend the title

  • A real gamble purchasing leather boots online, I would only purchase in-store.

May look great, but fitting your feet is whole other ball game

    • they are true to Australian/ British sizes
returns are free for six months after you purchase, in the event that you've totally got the wrong size

  • While blake welted is better than cemented, my GYW Aldens have lasted me almost 4 years.Almost 3 times the price though.

    • easier to resole than cemented shoes/ boots
the theory being if you take care of the upper with regular cleaning, creaming and wax polishing, they will give you many years of service
once the sole wears out, Blake Stitched/ Good Year Welted shoes are easier to resole than cemented shoes

My cemented/glued Clarks for $100 have lasted me a comfortable five years and are still going strong.

      • We are talking every second day for eight hours a day
Must be a great pair of shoes you have!

        • I wear them every weekday for 10 hours a day. They're indeed surprisingly durable.

        • @Shiny Mew:

Never, ever had a pair of Clarks last me that long, even without daily use.

Which model? And is it still being made ( probably not a good seller, as people who bought one didnt need to buy another, ever)

        • @docians: Clarks 'Dusty' shoe. Before I knew better, I had a pair of Windsor Smiths which lasted less than a year, and a pair of Clarks Desert Boots lasted me only 18 months, so it's not just my feet.

  • I prefer my dress boots to have a zip on the inside leg side. Straight leather on the out side face.
This style with the stretch sides looks like a shiny Blundstone.

    • +1

Actually, chelsea boots is exactly where the blundies get their style from.

  • Hey OP I've got an event coming up, planning a trip to Moscow and I've got my year 12 formal.
Would you recommend these shoes, or would rubber soles suit me better as I plan on using them quite often.

    Thanks :).

Just get some cheaper shoes from dfo or something for your formal, and buy separate shoes for travel. Winter boots are too warm for Aus. I have some boots i got overseas that keep my feet warm in-20c weather. I have another pair that are better for 5c weather (palladium leather boots. Would highly recommend these!)

      • Hey there tomkun01, thanks for the reply :).

DFO? Don't believe I've heard on them before.

I've got these, do you think they would be ok for Moscow's October temps 8 to 3 C?

        Thanks :).

        • +1

DFO is factory outlets. Closest equivalent in SA is Harbour Town but I'm not sure if there are any formalwear stores there.

        • @Soothsayer: Ah sweet, thanks soothsayer :).

        • +1

Yea fine for those temps. Shoes are extremely subjective. I highly recommend trying anything you're going to wear before buying

        • @tomkun01: Thanks tomkun01 :).

these have a rubber sole where they cop the most amount of wear so you should be safe.

if the budget allows, you'd be better with black oxfords for a formal, and a comfortable boot with a dainite or rubber sole for travelling and general hoofing around

      • Hey there WillisAU, thanks for the reply :).

Forgot to mention I'm going to Moscow for Julio Iglesias concert at the Kremlin.
I need something formal, but besides those events I'd probably never wear Oxfords again, so I was thinking I could pull it off with dress boots and also continue to wear them with a good pair of jeans or trousers.

I've got these that I was planning to use on my Moscow holiday.

Oh my you certainly do know my taste, those second pair of shoes😍.

        Thanks :).

          @wystri
I'm no expert, but I can't see any stitches on the soles of those Rivers shoes
I know they do say Goodyear welt boots, but I'm not sure.

        • @docians: Ouch, got them for $60, was thinking it could be to good to be true :(…

I'll check them, thanks docians :).

        • +1

          @Wystri Warrick:

          Not a worry
          Cost of resoling is $100-$150
Your shoe comes with a 2 year warranty.

When your shoes wear out, just get a new pair, it'll cost you less than resoling

        • @docians: Cool, thanks docians :).

Mate, don't over think it. If your formal is anything like mine, most of the guys there will be in cheap or rented, poorly fitting 3-piece suits with beat up and/or chunky black leather shoes. And there's not really anything wrong with that if they'll never wear formal attire again. But rock up wearing these and you'll have better shoes than 90% of guys there.

IMO Chelsea's are the perfect mid-point between formal and semi-casual footwear. It's slim, simple (less features on a brogue = more formal) and especially since this is shiny black leather, it can be easily dressed up for a suit. Then once it's scuffed and dulled a bit it will be fine for casual holiday wear as well.

Anyway, if it's good enough for the PM's meeting with the POTUS then it's good enough for a Year 12 formal.

      • Hey there Soothsayer, thanks for the reply :).

Yes I've certainly been overthinking it!

        Mid-point, that's perfect.
I was thinking that these might be a little to formal for my formal.
Would you know if these shoes can be re-soled, if so I'll get them :).

        Thanks :).

        • +1

if it says theyre good year welted or blake stitched then it means they can be resoled.

also, please do not use kevin rudd as a style guide

        • @WillisAU: Perfect, buying now.
          Thanks WillisAU :).
