Nagoya or Takayama accommodation

If we don't have any commitments in either city does anyone know which is the cheaper to find accommodation in?
Going in October this year.

  • If you're going to Tsumago, I'd highly recommend Koshinzuka Minshuku. Our favourite accomodation on our entire trip for some $200 half board, beats our $900 ryokan in Takayama.

  • +1

I have no idea which is cheaper to find accommodation in - use TripAdvisor or Expedia to work that out - no need to be lazy, you can do this yourself.

On a side note, I have been to Nagoya a few times and can recommend it. Great food and some good sights to see.

  • airbnb

  • They are both very different places. Nagoya has 2.3m people, Takayama 100K.

As for accommodation, it really depends on what you expect. I stayed at Hotel MyStays Nagoya Sakae and it was nothing special but clean and good value. In Takayama, I stayed in a proper ryokan (https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Hotel_Review-g298113-d1089379…) which was totally different but a good experience. The old lady that runs it doesn't speak a word of English but that was half the fun ;)

Takayama is quite close to Shirakawa-go which is interesting: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e5950.html. You can also take a gentle stroll through the forest from town which is nice.

  • i recomend takayama ouan its good for value and has an open air onsen on the roof 1 male. 1 female and 3 reserve rooms, its some where between a ryokan and hotel and its close to the station and just about everything else, also centere4 is a great burger joint there or there is the french/takayama resturaunt who owns about 4 different joints there they are pretty expensive but worth it, takayama is beautiful its worth it in every way getting there can be expensive without a railpass but you can get a return busfare which is about 6800 yen and its just about as fast as catching a train
