Is The Asus DSL-AC68U Any Good?

Been keeping an eye on this modem router and saw that I could get it for $224.25 on eBay through the PROXY sale.

2 questions:

  • Is this a good price for the modem router?
  • Is this a good modem router?

    yes

  • It is a bit dated but still a great modem/router for ADSL.
The new model is DSL-AC88U https://www.asus.com/au/Networking/DSL-AC88U/

  • Its good. Got one at this price (with 20% off ebay) a year ago.
If you have NBN, go for RT-AC68

    • Would RT work with FTTN?

      • Doubt it
        In have the dsl ac68u
I use it with fttn and mungi

  • Great router, bought the RT for my parents house 2 years ago. Reception on 2nd floor is full signal and no dropouts.

  • Can't comment on the modem component but as for the Router component (I have the T-mob edition), the performance and range especially on the 5GHz band blows the new Telstra 'Smart' modem and my old D-link 2890AL out of the water.

  • I have this modem/router and previously I had the TP-Link Archer D7 which kept repeatedly dropping out.

Ever since I bought the DSL-AC68U, it hasn't missed a beat - no dropouts and faster than the previous crap I had.

    Recommended.

    • That's good to hear. I have a tp Link right now and it's trash

      • +1

Yeah man definitely worth the investment. It's one of those things you buy once, set and forget and it'll keep going.

The tp link I had required me to get up and power cycle it before it'd connect again. Hopeless lol

  • I was having dropouts with my DSL-AC86U.
I took it for warranty. They gave me a new one. New one has been around for two weeks. Zero dropouts. perfect.

  • Thanks for the comments. I think I shall pull the trigger on this one.

    • That's a good move. I've had an RT-AC68U (NBN FTTP) for over 3 years now. The only time I go near it is to update it. Yep, it is still being updated with new features and fixes. If you have Apple or Android then get the app also.

  • I've had the dsl-ac68u for a few years. First on adsl with iiNet, now FTTN with AussieBB. In general a great unit.

If you're with AussieBB, read the forums (eg whirlpool) about instability over the last year or so. I've had lots of dropouts over the last few months, to the point where I'm considering getting a cheap modem to use in bridge mode with the Asus only doing routing/wifi.

Just something to be aware of.
