Crash Bandicoot on Nintendo Switch $49 @ Harvey Norman

130

Great price for anyone looking at grabbing it. I brought it for $49 when jbhifi had that sale a few weeks back. Great game and it's even better in portable mode.

Comes with 3 games so it'll keep the kids entertained for hours.

  • It's a weird world where remakes are worth 100% of their original value.

    I guess if people are willing to fork out the unnecessary money then it's going to keep happening.

    100% of the sales cost, 20% of the work cost.

      Activision are particular experts at it though. They remake COD every year!

      I agree, but this is a 100% from the ground up remake, of THREE games. If Crash 1 was asking this price, I would have never bought it. But at 49 bucks day one, it's 16.33 for a 100% remade from the ground up HD remake of an absolute classic. I can't knock that price dude, but if you want to knock it, well, there was the EB "trade 2 and pay 20" deal where everyone was trading in copies of $5 Singstar twice (like I did) which brought it down to 30 bucks for the game (so only 10 each), or you could do what I did on Amazon and take advantage of a bunch of deals and end up paying 20 something bucks for the Switch version too.

      But again, I agree with you. Especially in the cast of a remaster or an "HD remake" which is just the same game uprezzed, but like, these suckers were from the ground up (nickel for every time I've said that) made from scratch, effort was put in here, and the games are genuinely different enough from their original incarnations to warrant a revisit in my opinion.

      But if you don't like it, the PS1 digital trilogy is often on sale and can be played across PS3, PSP, and PS Vita for a one off purchase, there's no arguing the value there.

        I don't care if it's 100% from the ground or not.

        We make cars 100% from the ground, that doesn't mean it's amazing. Imagine giving someone the specs and instructions to make a car 500 years ago, would you be amazed that they could make it? The amazement doesn't come from that direction.

        This is a great game, but it's weird that it pulls such a high price granted the only work to be done is refactoring and copying.

          So when they made the first cars over a hundred years ago, you were like "Yo, this is good enough, let's not make a better version of this somewhere down the line, we're fine" ?

          Crash on PS1 is a '90s car, it costs X amount.
          Crash on PS4/Switch/Xbox is a '10s car, it costs the same except now it comes with ABS, airbags, dual fuel, and WiFi stereo instead of that crappy old tape deck.

          Where's the problem?

          @TheDukeOfNukem: I don't think you understood the analogy.

          If you've got a custom made, teak wardrobe, it's never going to be sold in IKEA at the same price.

          Do you understand this analogy?

          Making something has two core parts, design and development. When there is no design required, you are essentially cutting out half or more of the work.

          it costs the same except now it comes with ABS, airbags, dual fuel, and WiFi stereo instead of that crappy old tape deck.

          Except it doesn't. It comes with everything it had before, no additions. You are missing the point of that analogy entirely.

          @StoneSin: It comes with 3 games for $50 ($16.66 for each game), all with enhanced graphics. When it came out on PS1 it was $99.95 for each game. If you're going to make an analogy at least try making one that is actually comparable to the reality of the product.

          @mr_me450: It's accurate.

        • +1

          @StoneSin: Games weren't $60AUD back then. Maybe on the Gameboy but not home consoles.

          https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/06/why-retail-console-ga…

          PS1 titles retailed for around $50USD which at the time was about $70 with a straight conversion of the dollar, and we were subject to the AU Tax back in those days. With inflation thats around $100AUD in todays currency and thats for a single release not three.

          Besides, $49 isn't that much anyway. Using your car analogy my last car purchase in 2011 wasn't half the price of the model released in 2009. Subsequent models that in many ways are doing minor refinements likewise are going for the same price that I paid for mine. The various releases aren't all brand new and use much of the same design between updates. Yeah there's new features and improvements, same with this title.

          @Smigit: >Besides, $49 isn't that much anyway.

          Irrelevant. $2000 isn't much to me, it is to the next person. :/

    This is the price it's been at Amazon since release: https://www.amazon.com.au/Activision-CRASH-BANDICOOT-N-SANE-…
