I did that yesterday as well in store. Please make sure OW staff have the correct product model number.

At first the staff member said she couldnt price match due to different model number.(she looked at the switch 2 standalone console).

Model number for standalone switch: 10101
Model number for MKW bundle: 10103

  • I wonder would they do discount on Black Friday as I don't mind waiting for another month.

    • +2

Ebay most likely might have BF deals for plus members on switch 2, e.g. the switch oled pokemon edition previously

    • There is no harm in waiting, I think it will drop lower than this. If you don’t mind second hand I see them going for 600-650 on marketplace quite frequently

      • +1

You can also get the console by itself for $649 + $10 delivery from EB Games Australia's eBay store, if you've got eBay plus and use the code "PLUSAVE".

  • The price on Centre com is now $739 - unless I’m missing something? How did you get the $702.05 buy price from OWs?

  • +1

    Thanks!

  • has anyone played house of the dead remastered on the switch 2? if so have they fixed the joycon drift?

    • Joycon drift still there

      • why can't they just realized a lightgun? its annoying that they have games like house of the dead and they still like to destroy peoples gaming experience

        • +3

Real light guns don't work on non CRT screens. There's alternatives, but it will never be the same.

          • @PainToad: how they do this on playstations is they use a lazer point system you place it on the top and bottom of the screen and calbrate it on the screen you have works just like light guns do in the aracade i have a guncon 3 works amazing well on all lcd screens. They could do the same nothing stoping them it runs off usb or wireless.

            • @kungfuman: Yeah same as a Wii Mote. But it's like using a air mouse compared to an actual light gun.

              • @PainToad: Nintendo just need to remake there NES light gun for modern consoles.

Is this worth upgrading from Wii U?

    • +2

If this a serious inquiry (nobody but me and three other people bought a Wii U), then yeah, an upgrade to a Switch 2 is worth it. You'll get access to the entire Switch 1 library (excluding like 3 gimick games), and the future Switch 2 library.

Given we're just at the start of the Switch 2 life cycle, it only has like 4 exclusive games, and quiet a few performance improvement patches for Switch 1 games. I'd say the true Ozbarginer move in your position would be to go find a good deal on any of the Switch 1 systems, or find one on the used market, and just play all of the Switch 1 games. It's got such a large library of good games, many masterpieces, and a healthy used market of games at good prices. I'm doing this right now myself, just stringing out every ounce of value of my Switch I got at its launch before moving on.

I'm in a similar boat looking to retire my Wii U soon.

Ultimately I'm leaning toward just getting a mid to high end android tablet/handled + a suitable TV dock.

Current tablet chipsets are nearly as powerful as a switch 2 anyway, and can use emulators to play most switch 1 games plus Wii U games and all the retro Nintendo (+ sony) consoles. It can also use apps like Moonlight to stream PC games locally over the network while at home or docked. Plus when undocked or if I took it somewhere while travelling, it's not locked down to just gaming and is useful for so much more other general tablet stuff.

Anyway that's just the idea that I'm toying with in case it helps.

      • Is switch 2 jailbroken?

        • I'm not sure, but either way Nintendo seem pretty keen on policing exactly how people use the device

    • Can't tell if you're being serious or joking with that question.

      • +2

serious, i still play my wii-u. Pretendo works so well, still playing mk8 and splatoon online. Recently finished zelda BOTW too. Its a great console.

  • +1

I think Switch 2 is still too expensive because the improvement on Switch 2 cannot justify the price difference between 1st gen and 2nd gen.

    • +2

I regret not getting it earlier when it first came out, it was under $700 with Mario, $670. I thought that was overpriced at the time but figured it would come down, not go up and then discount to be higher

      • +2

Always worth it when you really want to play. I tried the Mario Kart and Donkey Kon in JB and was not impressed. Switch 1 has many games to play but Switch 2 still needs time to expand their games gallery.

        • The difference is Switch 1 had Breath of The Wild upon launch, Switch 2 did not.

        • Well you run the risk of prices going up. Xbox and PS5 have climbed in price 5 years after launch which is unheard of. I wouldn’t be surprised if Switch 2 raised theirs too.

    • -1

I disagree on the last part, but agree that even if it was the best value, it’s still expensive.
I mean, Switch 1 was definitely worse value, considering that it was based on a 2-year-old mobile SoC from a cheap Android tablet and TV box at the time, but it was also relatively inexpensive compared to this.
And it doesn’t matter if the value is better, the fact is the sticker price has gone up substantially, and there’s no real need to own a Switch 2 yet unless you just want your Switch 1 games to run better, or you want the exclusive games.
If you want a handheld for playing your games with minimal fuss, either the Switch 1 or Steam Deck will serve your needs at a cheaper price point.
Alternatively, if you just want to play video games on the TV, just get a PS5 on sale.

no OLED screen on the switch 2 either

Someone psychic tell me if I'll get a better deal during Black Friday sales

    • pyrokinesis for beginners

    • I’m hoping for $550, but then again I may be dreaming

  • I went to the OW store in five dock and was denied price beat as centre com don’t have warranty in their spec sheet.

    • +2

Try price matching over the phone instead?

    • +1

Come on wizard. Don’t listen to OW excuses.

Nintendo Warranty is the same from all Australian stores. The store just send faulty items to Nintendo for repairs

      • +1

Yeah, they were probably not in a mood to help. Went to the other nearby ow after that, they happily price beat it.

        • I make it awkward for them. Because on the back of their uniform is the price beat guarantee. And I get them to turn around and I read it out

And ask why it this excluded.

  • if you use the $50 lattitude voucher interest free on amazon you get $50 off. I got it delivered for $689 then paid it straight off

    • But 28 degree latitude voucher aren't free.
You have to pay $10 pm for it.

  • Can you use gift cards on the price beat offer?

  • Officeworks did a price match over the phone this afternoon, managed to click and collect this evening!

  • Waiting for Steam Deck OLED to be around this price…

  • If you have Ebay plus, you can get $70 off this bundle at the EB Games store, which brings it down to $709.90 delivered

The Pokemon Legends: Z-A bundle is the same price.

  • Whats the lowest price so far?

  • Thanks OP - picked one up today at the $702 price matched price at my local Officeworks
