  • I am waiting for one of these Amazon stores to sell a fully pimped type-c hub such as this one from Orico (tmall)

    https://m.intl.taobao.com/detail/detail.html?id=547699943821…

I'd buy from tmall/taobao but their shipping fees are so high.

    • +1

use combined shipping. its like 10$ for first killogram, and 7$ each after that. so go buy bunch of stuff and pay together.

    • I've been so missing that serial port.

  • dis suitable for Nintendo switch?

    • Switch video out is only via HDMI. It only does charging (and maybe data?) via USB C.

  • Does this work with Android phones?

    • From the description:

      Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+, LG G5 G6, Lumia 950

I'm considering it, could come in handy for my S8.

      • +1

I want to try it as a cheapo Dex solution, but I am wondering if the original Samsung charger will be able to power everything without depleting the phones battery.

  • I would love to find out that could drive two HDMI monitors - I have to Satechi hub adapters hanging off my Mac to drive two displays :(

    • +1

Ditto, especially since recent Mac OS updates broke any dock using DisplayLink in cruel and unusual ways.

      • There a beta driver you can use until they fix this issue. It sucks that the update broke it but this may be a good work around

        • Yep, I've got that driver and it mostly works okay as long as I only want two external screens. I'd love to get my third screen going, though, and all of them at native high resolution. Judging by the comments, a lot of people are unhappy about DisplayLink's response and the time it's taken them to get even this far. Bottom line is if you have a recent MacBook you're better off upgrading to a USB-C dock that doesn't use DisplayLink technology.

So no software required? That's awesome.

Most hubs I've seen (external video cards, effectively, I guess) have required heavy duty software to run them.

    • i have never seen any dongle need software to run them….ever…..nor does any kind of hub…

      • Unlike your username this is a different kind of hub.

      • +1

Docks and hubs that use old USB A connection and drive displays need DisplayLink to be installed.

DisplayLink has been broken on macOS for several months now so something like this that doesn't require software installed means it will work for people in that situation

  • Actually bought one without knowing it's a deal. What's the usual price?

    • +1

if you check on camelcamelcamel link above, you will notice that the current price is the standard price since the birth of amazon.au , also the highest price till today.

i have been keeping an eye on it, but still waiting tfor it to go down a few $s

  • dam thought this was on sale :C

    • always compare with other sellers, mate

this kind of deal needs us to be sceptical

  • Didn't they have quite a few variants of these, or ones very like them, during prime day? For $60-$90ish?

  • Does anyone know if this works well with MacBook Pro? Most adapters that I have tried causes the wifi to be messed up due to interference. Is this shielded enough?

    • Hey there! I have one. It kills 2.4ghz wifi completely on the Macbook Pro (on a 2016 13" Touchbar and a 2016 Macbook Pro non-touchbar if that helps). No issues with 5ghz though. No experience with any other Macbook Pros here.

      Hope that helps!

      • Thanks! Yeah I don’t see many people comment much about this even though it’s a wide spread issue, maybe I’m the only one who uses wireless on 2.4, but regardless I was expecting some manufacturer could have worked this out.

  • Almost pulled the trigger but want one with Ethernet. I'll keep looking.
