    Cancelling eBay plus

  • +14

Never even bothered with the free trials

  • Not sure?

  • I wanted to ask the same, i'm kind of tempted to keep both as i use eBay more often but Amazon Prime seems to spit out some pretty good bargains that make paying for Prime worth it

Just make new accounts for the free trials.

Cancelling both. If an exceptional deal comes around i'll just sign up again. Got a few great deals off eBay plus but they seem to be tapering off now.

I actually think that both are pretty reasonable.

eBay Plus is only $29 for the first year, so $2.50 per month. I've definitely already saved over $29 in shipping in just the first month of eBay Plus alone. I'm not too sure it's worth $49, but I'll keep it for $29.

Amazon Prime is a bit of hit-and-miss with me - I don't use Amazon AU enough to justify paying for Prime. However, to be fair, the savings I've gotten from the recent Prime day sales have been more than enough to pay for an entire year of Prime and then some, so I guess I'll have to see how often I buy things from Amazon. Also, Amazon have free shipping over $50, which reduces the incentive to have Prime for free shipping.

Amex currently has an offer to save 50% off Prime

I love how fast the shipping is with Amazon Prime.

Still not sure about Aus Post just leaving parcels unattended on my front doorstep though.

      • Haha, at least they deliver them when they do that :0

Both are pretty good, but 1. I'm trying to limit my online purchases so they'd be counterproductive, 2. eBay Plus benefits are too discretionary as it depends on participating sellers, and 3. I don't use Amazon AU enough to warrant the Prime sub.

  • Ebay Plus seems to be extremely good value, although it will depend on what discounts are offered over the year, I expect a lot like the 15% off sale. I've probably already saved more than $29 just during the free trial.

Amazon hasn't even had enough worthwhile deals to warrant signing up for the free Prime trial yet, hopefully they'll get off their lazy butts and seriously incentivise a variety of sellers to come in and there'll be some serious deals. I've bought a few cheap things from Amazon AU but there's just not enough there at a reasonable price.

I'll be keeping eBay Plus for the $29 fee, not sure I would for $49

Part of the reason is, not living on the east coast shipping cost is usually a consideration.

    • Even on the east coast shipping from common Australian sellers is usually $8 or so (if it's not "free" shipping and built in to the price).
$8 x4 = $32, so it pays for itself after 4 items over the course of the year, then continues to give you free shipping.

But like you said, I'm not sure I'd keep it for $49.

I find value in both but I wont be paying for eBay plus out of principle.

I find it insulting as a consumer that eBay offers different level of discounts based on membership. Tech deal recently for example giving extra 5% to plus members. Also with eBay phasing out free shipping as an option when listing items is forcing people who dont want to pay for shipping to subscribe.

Amazon allows free shipping if you spend over $49 which makes prime totally optional. I pay for prime as I use Twitch a lot and the free sub and game content alone makes the $59 worth it. I will always check amazon when shopping online before looking elsewhere. I so far have found their entertainment options much cheaper than JB even when JB is on sale so it works for me.

  • Cancelling Amazon, wanted it more for Prime Video but doesnt work on chromecast. So cancel.

  • Keeping prime but ditching ebay plus.

  • Anyone else very underwhelmed by Prime? All the deals just seem to be for household goods and knick knacks and there hasn't been anything really stand out. I was hoping for a repeat of the appliance sale which i missed out on, and have only kept the membership because of the Amex deal. Will almost definitely not be renewing the way it's going.

  • Paid 12 months of prime. Free shipping from the us has already saved us hundreds. I can only imagine amazon Aus getting better.

Started the ebay trial yesterday for the 10% off code, I’ll kept it for the first year because of the google mini/ only renew if they eliminate sitewide %coupons for regular users. My issue with eBay plus seems to be that everything I’m interested in is “$$ item/post” with free shipping, so no added benefit from plus membership.

Shipster 12 months free, might renew another 12 months if it’s kept at $10/year.
