Hey guys, Big W got this pretty good deal, even though other 3DS bundles might start comng up in the next few weeks. You get the 3DS+ starter kit+ a game (Rayman or Ghost Reckon) for $348 with free delivery for online orders. It is a pretty good deal considering EB is pre-ordering the 3DS console by itself for $349.

Dunno if this is a bargain or not as other retailers may have bundles coming out when the 3DS is actually available (31st March according to EB Games), but it is the best pre-order at the moment.

    • Agreed. Hard to say it's a bargain when this is the first 3DS bundle price advertised in Australia.

I agree with you too. This is sort of 'only a bargain now' kind of thing. I plan on pre-ordering, but if nothing better shows up, I will be getting this.

    • This deal from DS is better, $298 for first 200 orders, reckon it will be over pretty quick though http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/39243

      • It was $283 with code HIGH5, but they're all sold out now, so probably time to revoke the neg.

      • Not fair to neg for a deal that is no longer available.

Seems like a good deal but I will be holding off until Nintendo release the revised version. This first gen version has horrible battery life.

    • Yeah, I mean compare the first DS with the DS lite.

Hehe I think its Ghost Recon not reckon :P

When it is released in the U.S. it will be $249.99 and our dollar should still be strong by then

    • +2

Yep, buying a US version seems like the best plan.

Note that the 3DS is sadly region-locked, but still buying games from the US region will probably be cheaper and faster than Australian releases anyway!

Damn this is so sad and true. I really do like supporting aussie retailers but they make it hard sometimes :S

        • I feel sorry for the aussie retaliers. They look bad but it's really not their fault, it's nintendo attempting to take advantage of us.

    • I was thinking that too but US250 console only so AU$350 for console and game and starter pack doesn't seem too bad a deal. Especially when you can just waltz down to your local Big W to pick it up on launch.

I am making an assumption that in the very near future angry clever nerd army will rise up and hack the region lock to bits. Then I can enjoy imported US games.

  • think i might hold onto the DS Lite for a bit.

There is a warning that these can damage the eyesight of young children.

    • +2

should be [adults only] in the title perhaps

      EDIT: j/k..

    • +3

Who said that?!? I can't see!

    • You can turn the 3D function off without interrupting gameplay.

    • If you did further research, the 3DS comes with parental controls too!

    • If you believe the talking heads, there is a warning these can damage the souls of young children too.

      Exercise some responsible parenting people.

      • who the hell would neg that?

  • Yes I certainly would not reccomend getting this for a child. Keep them on the DS Lites for now.

  • Its not suitable for kids 4 and under I read somewhere.

Nice post but I bet someone else will have a better deal

    • +2

I wouldn't trust a 6 year old with an expensive delicate piece of hardware let alone 4 :P

    • apparently…

"3DS is safe for kids says American Optometric Association, Nintendo being overly cautious?"

It just like the warnings on anything from 3D tv to turning devices on in planes to mobile phones at petrol pumps though there is a risk, minute one at that but better to be safe than sorry… at least you can turn it off that function.

As for the price, its still quite expensive but the novelty of a 3d screen has me tempted. At least its being bundled with something. Still with the US getting it cheaper were getting shafted via taxes and whatever else is put on top for profit. It's a shame about region locking.

I think Nintendo made the health warning to kids under 6 to show some responsibility. Their reputation may hurt if consumers start taking legal action for not mentioning any health risks.

Other than that, I'm more interested in trying out the 3DS before purchasing it. That's my problem.

        • Yeah, I'm also a little skeptical about the quality and realism of stereoscopic 3D displays(no glasses). I'm sick of gimmicky pseudo-3D nonsense.

          3D without glasses

          surely it would work ;)

        • lmfao issh that's brilliant

$350… will be interesting to see how good it actually is. You can buy a 360 for that much >.<

  • The US price of $250 sounds more reasonable than ours, and even if it is region locked a mod chip hard or soft will be out soon enough after the release date.

    • Well it does now, with our strong dollar. But for all we know, the Aussie dollar might plummet back to its 0.6 USD days. Nintendo's just being cautious and taking it all into account. I was half expecting this to be an outright $400.

Err.. No, they just exploiting Australians, because they can.

well just buy the r4 flash carts which are being made! free games for all!

    • People like you don't deserve to play games. How are games supposed to be made if people like you feel it's ok to steal them?

      • I agree and disagree. I own a hell of a lot of games on my DS, but when companies try to outright exploit people, I'll happily download them and play them on my r4. $80 for a handheld game cartridge is not right.

    • Who knows how hackable they'll be though.
