  • Tasty, thanks OP!

Has anyone tried this with just the switch?

    • +3

Pretty sure the Switch 2 Pro controller is not compatible with Switch 1

      • That's pretty awful if true. I know they've made almost-identical next-gen controllers not work with previous gen consoles for no reason before, but it's no less stupid/wasteful/nasty in 2025 than it's always been.

        • -1

Why should a new gen product work with the old switch? Thats how it is with every gaming console. Switch 1 controller works on the switch 2.

Why should a new gen product work with the old switch?

Why shouldn't it? They both use bluetooth, and they both have the same main/core set of sticks, controls, buttons and features. It'd be easier to make them compatible than incompatible.

More gamers with more controllers means more copies sold of local multiplayer games and a better satisfaction and popularity of the product.

Now this is tempting. Only problem is I really have no problems with my switch 1 pro controller at all, and I said to myself I’d wait for a special edition pro controller 2 before picking one up.

    But this price is good..

    • Same position, one thing the original pro doesn’t allow is to wake up the switch 2 wirelessly. Minor annoyance but still not worth the 100 bucks upgrade.

      • +2

I’ll just keep the new joycon and old pro controller both at couch side and wake it with joycon

  • +6

    Special edition waiting room

  • How does this compare with the closest 8bitdo equivalent?

    • +3

8bitdo any day. This is overpriced

      • +1

Nintendo overpricing a product? Surely not.

      • +8

In what way is 8bitdo better? Genuinely curious.

I don't think any controllers apart from switch 2 pro controller can wake up switch 2 from dock.

8bitdo ultimate 2 doesn't appear to have hd rumble, amiibo support or headphones jack.

Keen for more details on how it's hands down better

        • -4

Where did they say it was "hands down better"? They simply said the offical controller was overpriced.

          • +5

@PainToad: Any day in this context sounds like a winner in every way for 8bitdo.

It's not on most days. If that's the wrong interpretation then I'm sorry, but the main point of my comment is wanting more details on why such a strong stance on 8bitdo because I'm genuinely curious and keen for better controllers

Any day for "value". Was clear to me.

        • +3

Although my sample size for 8bitdo is 1, I've noticed the difference in quality, especially in the tolerances.

The bumper and face buttons on my ultimate controller started to feel cheap and wiggly after a while. They might've fixed this on the ultimate 2, I'm not sure. It's not jarring or anything, and only noticeable if you really focus in on it.

If you want the premium feel, buy 1st party controllers. If you want worry less about stick drift, buy 8bitdo or any other hall effect controller.

        • Gulikit elves 2 or es/ es sport. Fastest controller wireless or wired on https://gamepadla.com/ with hall effect/ tmr sticks. Has wake up for switch/2. $40 on AliExpress

        • Hall effect sticks

    • I’ve never owned a pro controller, but I own the 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ & Pro2. They’re brilliant & half the price. Haven’t bought the Pro3, cos I don’t have a need to upgrade.
They work on every device I’ve thrown at them too, from Switch to PC to phone, etc.

Had to do a firmware update on the Pro2 to get it compatible with the Switch 2. Apparently the same process for the Pro+.

FWIW my children have somehow worn all the rubber off the pro+ sticks, so the Pro2 is mine now. Battery lasts well & build quality is great.

Downside is no remote wake up with the home button from the 8bitdo’s for whatever reason.

  • Very highly recommend this controller if its within your means.

The texture retains zero sweat, never gets clammy, always dry. Super comfortable.

  • +1

Still using the switch 1 pro controller on switch 2…I read the only difference is you can’t wake up the switch 2 with the switch 1 pro controller with the home button.

    • +1

Yeah I'm doing that too. A minor inconvenience, but otherwise works well for all other purposes.

      • Yep. Got the switch 1 pro controller for $59 on old Catch of the Day so probably won’t upgrade til it drops price in another few years.

    • +3

I personally feel like the thumb sticks are better on the Pro 2, they feel somewhat smoother if that's a thing. It also comes with 2 programmable back buttons on the grips and audio out. Obviously if none of those have any use then the original is still very good

    • +1

Sort of echoing another reply but the sticks on the 2 are a lot smoother, was about the only reason I got it early on. I kept hearing that that was the case and got curious enough to try it myself and it was definitely a huge difference. My 1 controller is now my PC controller while the 2 is for the Switch 2.

    • +1

Texture is better and I get good use out of the 2 mappable buttons on the back.

  • +1

I wished it worked on pc I would buy

    • +1

Buy an 8bitdo controller for half the price and you won’t have that issue ;)

      • +2

I already have all 8bitdo controllers , I want this one

    • yeah im waiting to see if they add PC support to it

  • -2

Def way too expensive.. And I say this as someone who has 2 switch 1 pro controllers.. One had a drift but I was able to pull it apart/use some contact cleaner which greatly helped/functionally fixed it (at least for now/a while, was a couple years ago and still fine).

After getting a Dualsense with the PS5 though, the Switch Pro controller (1, not sure what 2 feels like) just kinda feels… cheap? Like they've used a super cheap, easily wearable plastic. Battery is far superior on the switch pro controller but it's rare I'm playing PS5 long enough for the battery to be an issue (and I have a spare / the charging dual dock).

  • +1

While I did buy one, I have to say that the changes are minor.

If you get anxious playing competitively and sweaty hands for example, this thing is always dry. Otherwise its a waste of your money.

I'd say both the Nintendo Pro Controllers are the best ever made. Pretty much the perfect controller.

  • I get by using a 20 dollar Gamesir Nova lite. After my bad experience with the OG Switch Pro controller, I'm never touching them unless they rework the stick drift nonsense for good.

  • +3

I own both switch 1 pro controllers (2 units) and thr switch 2 pro controller (1 unit).

My switch 1 pro controllers have clocked 4000hr and 1000hr without skipping a beat and work amazing. It has taken some abuse from trigger inputs like smash ultimate and hollow knight and has not had any drift issues. YMMV

Switch 2 pro controller is a nicer controller between the 2 with feel and additional features but they are not needed. Only get it if you want to treat yourself or need c button, 2 reprogrammable buttons or headphones jacks if you have kids. My only gripe is that it doesn't have the Easter egg "thnx2allgamers".

40 hours battery life on both S1 & S2 pro controllers are amazing. PS5 controllers for context last 5-6h.

Tldr: there is no need to upgrade from s1 to s2 pro controller. There are nice to have features but if you want to treat yourself, can't go wrong. Otherwise, wait for pricr drop or limited edition designs

  • Are there any charging docks for this controller like the switch 1 pro controller yet?

  • ty got one

  • Waiting on a good deal on the Switch 2 console! May have to hold out for Black Friday sales

  • I bought my old switch pro controller at $69. Gaming is expensive now.

  • +1

$100 for no hall effect is a waste of money. I guarantee this will drift worse than 64 sticks

    • My original Switch Pro Controller (that I got back in March 2020) has clocked thousands of hours of play time on it.

I literally managed to wear out one of the shoulder buttons without the sticks ever developing drift. That was fixed by replacing the shoulder button assembly with parts brought off Aliexpress, and then went on to clock hundreds more hours of gameplay without a hitch and still no sign of drift.

The only reasons I've even replaced it with the Switch 2 Pro Controller was because of its reputation for having super smooth feeling sticks. The laziness factor of being able to wake the Switch 2 was just a bonus.

      • +2

you must have great fingering skills

  • Not worth it, I'll wait till it get to $60 thank you very much, got the 1st switch pro controller for $55 back then. So yes they do go down in prices unlike their overrated / overhyped games…

  • Pretty sure Switch was my last Nintendo console.
