I have one of these that i used for diving. It gives a better colour reproduction under water and less fish eye effect compared to my GoPro Silver 4. It has an underwater mode which does something to the white balance. I am no expert, it just works.
Remember if you are going to record in 4K you need a fast MicroSD Card.

  • I have this camera. The stabilisation is not great when mounted on the bonnet of a car with a suction mount. Even on relatively smooth bitumen roads. But the price is good.

    • Have you tried any other cameras for comparison?

I am curious. I would have thought the roof and the body immediately adjoining the bonnet would have lower levels of vibration compared to the bonnet. Have you tried any other mounting points on the car?

      • +1

I've also tried the side of the car/SUV with similar vibration results. I shoot professionally for broadcast so I'm pretty fussy, but the stabilisation doesn't impress me.

    • In the first paragraph of copy, they directly recommend this link if you want to put it near an engine: http://support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/www/ac_portal/features/m…

  • Can this use as a dash cam inside a car?

    • +1

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. You probbaly can, youll need a good mounting with the correct angle though. Thought im sure there are better dash cam options, like the blackvue. You will need a constant power source to the sony.
The Sony will stop recording once the SD card is full, while a designated dash cam would delete the old footages once the card is full so you constantly record new footage.

    • I wouldn't use an expensive action camera as a dash cam. You really don't need the level of image quality this camera gives, and it'll be a much more attractive target for theives than a $50 dashcam.

  • are there any coupon for JBhifi?

    • missed out on yesterday's 5% off. But you can always buy discounted jb hifi giftcards at woolies

Shame that I just bought the gopro 5 session at $345 last week. I'd choose this one over the go pro session. Much better quality in picture

    • Hmmm. I ended up getting one of this. The price is too good to resist. This cam is said to be the best action cam in 2018

  • Online Digidirect will be happy to price match for you, if you ask them.

  • very good price….

The description should be "This camera gives WAY A LOT better performance than Hero 6!"

  • Got one. Mine came with a $25 coupon in the box off accessories at the Sony store.

    • I picked up one too and saw on the card it says Valid until 31st March 2018. Haven't tried it yet to see if it works.

      • Did yours work? I haven't tried but would be good if it did work. I got two so could get a good accessory by joining the two cards.

        • Update, i managed to use the $25 cards online. Even though its expired. :)

  • Got 2 today one cost me $320 the other 1 cost me $300 from 2 diff JB Hi-Fi stores

    • How did you get it for $320 and $300? :o

II feel like returning mine now. Don't think I can cancel an online order though.

  • I just asked for $320 and got a yes the $300 one was just luck

    • As in you asked if you can pay only $320 and they accepted?
Do you think you can upload receipt so I can go and get one locally by showing the receipt price?
      Also which store was this?

  • I’ll up load first thing tomorrow they were in Victoria I rang four stores asking for $320 got a yes on the fourth attempt

    • Thanks. I'll see if they can price match the $300 once you upload a picture if receipt. :)

  • Don't hold your high hope for that, I have tried a few other stores many were so unhappy when I was asking for the lower price. Even inside the shop, they could not be bothered changing the price tags. Once you go inside the shop, you will see $449. I don't know how he got it for $320 and $300??? And don't assume that other stores will price match that…. "got a yes the $300 one was just luck" LOL! The Melbourne stock is sold out. Only: Wagga Wagga, Mildura, Hobart, Dubbo HOME :))

It is highly possible the one he got for $320 and $300 was a display, open box.

There are 15 stores I no Of in Melbourne that have stock and I never pay retail or adevertised
I ask for the price I want to pay and both are brand new with Sony seal intact not exdusplay carton damage or customer return

    • I will call and try anyway. But getting a photo of this receipt would help them match the price. :)

    • Awesome, thanks :)

        • Great. thanks.
I called my local JB and they said yours was a customer return. So they can't do this price. :( even if it wasn't, they registered as customer return to give you that price.
I will try another store. It's a bargain at $320 and you'll get $100 cash back.

        • @Bruno28:
I found a store that said they have one that the seal has been opened but the camera is untouched. They will do $300 :)

        • @Bruno28:

Did you manage to get the camera so far?

        • @Peteroz:
Yes i got one in store. Was broken seal but camera seemed to be untouched. They discounted to $300. And got one online for the $390. Each box also came with a $25 accessory card that I manage to use today even though it expired on 31st March. So saved another $50.

        • @Bruno28:

          Ok excellent!

From which store you got it for $300?

        • @Peteroz:
It was from Warringah Mall in Brookvale. They only had one in stock. And again, it was $300 because the seal was broken.

  • Great reviews on this. Was tempted to get one but after thorough digging it seems that it has a focus issue after constant usage from the heat melting the glue that holds some kind of sensor.
The camera is then unable to focus to infinity (fixed on these).
A simple search on youtube shows that a few people have run into this problem.
The only fix is to send back to sony for them to re-glue it.
Apparently they use a cheap glue that isn't fit for purpose.
If it wasn't for this, I'd have probably got one.

  • Promotion is now expired.

    • +1

I think they have sold a good amount of them…

  • Has anyone got the $100 gift card yet??
