Victorinox Premium Forged Granton Edge 17cm Santoku Knife $59 Free Delivery @ Mega Boutique

70

Combining beautiful form with high function, the Victorinox Forged Santoku Knife from the Victorinox series of forged knives has a full tang blade that is uniformly hardened and perfectly balanced. But it’s not just this blade that gives the Santoku knife its robust strength – its black handle continues this theme, being both elegant and hard-wearing. Ergonomically designed, this handle promises its user comfort in its hold and supreme ease in its use, however long that might be. This is a graceful all-rounder, designed for the precision cutting of everything from meat and fish to fruit, vegetables and cheeses, its fluted edge minimizing the chance of food sticking to its blade. For use as much in private homes as in professional establishments.

This Santoku Knife, while similar in quality to the Victorinox Grand Maitre forged Santoku that retail in access of $150, is at a bargain price because of a scoop deal from the supplier. Strictly while stock last.

Features:
  • The blade is made of high carbon steel that allows for easy edge maintenance
  • A necessary cutlery tool, this hefty knife is perfect for dicing, mincing, and slicing
  • Length of blade: 17 cm
  • Blade Properties: Forged
  • Type of edge: Fluted edge

Indeed, the higher priced one is made in Germany.

If I'm not mistaken, all Victorinox knives are made in Switzerland.

@MegaBot: Except for the higher priced one he showed, it literally says Made in Germany for Victorinox on the blade.

@Pikaloo: Wow thanks for pointing that out!! I was always under the impression that they were all made in Swiss. Even their website kinda says that "The majority of Victorinox products – the Swiss Army Knives, Household and Professional Knives, Watches and Fragrances – are manufactured in Switzerland. For reasons of expertise, Travel Gear items are produced abroad, where the technical, staff and material resources needed for efficient manufacture can be accessed."

        • @MegaBot: The steak knives from your previous deal are great.

        • @Pikaloo: Glad you liked them. :) I have a set of them at home myself. Great for cutting things like tomatoes too.

        • @MegaBot: can you link to the steak knifes?

      • Cheers for clarification

  • very tempting but i just bought the plastic handled version :-(

  • Are santoku knives any better than normal chef knives? Would you recommend to a person who has very limited kitchen storage, and why, please?

    • Hi

Below I copied from Wikipedia :)

"The Santoku is a general-purpose kitchen knife originating in Japan. Its blade is typically between 13 and 20 centimetres long, and has a flat edge and a sheepsfoot blade that curves in an angle approaching 60 degrees at the point."

The major difference between a chef knives and santoku is the angle of the blade. Because the Santoku is flatter than the chef knive, it suits a more linear single downward cut and even landing from heel to tip, thus using less of a rocking motion than Western style cutlery.

The Santoku design also is shorter, lighter, thinner, and more hardened (to compensate for thinness) than a traditional Western chef's knife. So if storage is a concern, then the Santoku is definitely one to consider.

      Hope that helps. :)
