Did anyone else get panic attacks when OzBargain was down?

No seriously, what was that. Was that a first? i cant remember the last time the actual bargain site was down. Im used to sites being 'ozbargained' but not ozbargain itself :S

  • If there is an issue with the site that lasts more than a bit, it will be on Twitter and Facebook. There is a good possibility the site will go down again as we are under active attack with a ransom demand.

      Pay the ransom in Eneloops

      But seriously.. that sucks man!

      • +2

How much is the ransom? I'll donate tree fiddy and two eneloops.

I will give the attackers a free 8bit burger to the value of $12.

        • 1 BTC. Too pricey for us.

          Details here

        • @neil: How many BTC does OZB/Scotty own? :p

        • @John Kimble: OzB - nil. Myself - let me check… What's my wallet's passcode?!

I know how that feels. Ever since the Government imposed the GST on bringing goods into Australia I feel like I'm being mugged.

    • OzBargain tech guys should really consider putting the website behind Cloudflare. Cheap and effective DDOS protection.

      • I reckon this site too dynamic for that kind of service.

        • I doubt it. For example, Uber, 4chan, okcupid and whirlpool are behind Cloudflare.

        • @bremo: Whirlpool now as well

    • Damn, that sucks. Fight the good fight! No negotiating with terrorists!

    • So did you guys end up paying the ransom (1 bitcoin)? If not, how did you get it back up?

      • Nope. There are ways of mitigating a DDoS.

Is the ransom the same deal as that other thread where they have vids of him watching porn and they are going to release the vids if he doesn't pay up?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/392370

      • Presumably the ransom was "Pay up or we'll (keep) DDOSing your site."

The only time Topbargains actually get visitors. That site is basically a copy/paste of OzBargain anyway.

Facebook comments on the matter are gold.

    Make ozb work again!

  • My NBN tower has been out since 7.30 this morning anyway….double whammy!

  • Oh wow I didn't even know about this. I picked a good time to just zone out and have breakfast and read some real life catalogs aka real life ozbargaining.

I swear I have been checking ozbargain today every hour though.. huh must have missed it.

  • Poor thing.
Take some Calm me down pills or drink a calm me down tea.
    That will fix you
