Looks like it wasn't worth $270

      That RRP was complete BS.

Bought one for $28 from Amazon. Not worth it, pods are way too expensive imo and never go on sale.

    • Edit: looks like they did go on sale according to OP, first time seeing it after hunting around heaps.

Woolies does the occasional 2x boxes for $15.
A few months back Reject Shop had the Chococino capsules for $1 a box and they still had a couple of years before expiring.
Harvey Norman has at times sold selected varieties for $4.
Plus Dolce Gusto online does the occasional promo on capsules, but it usually involves buying a machine.

But yeh, they never seem to get discounted to the same degree as Nespresso compatible capsules.

      • So you save $2 for 2 boxes, totally not worth it. I'd jump on the $1 boxes at the reject shop, never thought of checking it out. Will definitely next time though.

Ordered for $28 from Amazon but arrived faulty so now awaiting a replacement.

Amazon didn't want the faulty one back so I might try troubleshoot and fix it when I have time. Basically it makes its normal sounds as if it was making the coffee but in actual it doesn't draw any water or pour anything. Has anyone experienced this before or know what part might be faulty? I tried sticking the provided needle in the tip to see if there was any blockage but that didn't help (wouldn't expect a blockage in a brand new machine anyway)

I had exactly the same problem. I tried the needle clean but that didn't work. It would make sounds but no water was being drawn. Tried pressing the hot then the cold for about 15min to no avail.

I gave up and walked away to find out how to return this back to Amazon. Finally when I came back 30min later I decided to try it again and behold it started drawing water.

      Its been working ever since.
      Weird.

  • I had the same problem. I put some pressure on the tip. Tried it a few more times and eventually started working.

    • Did you have this problem with the brand new one?

      • Same happened to me, to my brand new one. That worked for mine as well.

Got from Amazon $28 last sale. So bad I have returned it. Avoid!

Got box of 16 pods from OfficeWorks for $6. They taste alright.

  • In the long run you will be better off with a nespresso machine.

  • Garbage plasticy junk, look how goddamn ugly that thing is
The pods are awful and overpriced too.

  • Very limited stock - closest store near me that actually has stock is over 500km away

Looks more like a donut than anything else wonder why it is called eclipse

    • Yeh, they should have called it Dolce Gusto Donut. Makes sense… Coffee and donuts. :p

dont buy nescafe pods…waste of money & are frankly crap coffee

oh and its a great machine if you take youre time & use it correctly…best $28.99 ive ever spent in the kitchen :D

Thanks franco for this great tip.

BTW, recaps are cheaper on Aliexpress.

      • +1

        no worries…:)
thanks for the tip re: aliexpress…will be buying more of these so thats handy to know
i bought from amazon because i wanted the expedited shipping. 4 days or something and only a bit more to pay…figured it would be easier to return thru amazon too if it didnt work out

    • Got some of these the other day. They're not very good. You can't put espresso fine grind in them, they just clog up and the machine alarms due to high pressure. You have to use coarse grind. So you end up with a low pressure run through coarse grind, which obviously tastes a bit crap. I'll be sticking to my aeropress. I've also read reviews comparing the capsules (dolce gusto) vs nespresso, there's no comparison, DG are crap whilst nespresso are quite good.

Franco I read your post in the other thread. Seems you're making a long black of sorts. Have you had any luck with a shot around 30-40ml with a fine grind?

genuine recaps or generic…? thats unfortunate if recaps…to be expected if generic

i have tried pre-ground for espresso lavazza qualita oro and some preground vittoria beans i have with excellent results
very fine or very coarse it wont do but anything in between should be fine

the other thing is dont overfill the capsule (1-2mm below the internal line is good) and dont overtamp it
if you want extra strong pack 2x pods and run them one after the other while youre warming your milk (if you take milk)
also mark where the hole aligns with the injector spout on the capsule drawer so you dont mess up the orientation of the capsule in regards to the injector…youll make a mess if you dont align them correctly (this kind of sounds like what you may be experiencing or overfilling/tamping)

im making long espresso shots x 2 (4 = bars on the control panel) with warmed slightly aerated milk (strong/double shot flat white in cafe speak)…pretty much what ive drunk for the last 20 years :P

Heya. Yup, recaps. Using a not too fine grind, not tamping at all, and not over filling it often over pressures. So I have to use a coarser grind and not tamping either. Ahh well.

        • @mkerr: i reckon if you dont tamp it a little you wont develop the required pressure in the cap…youll end up with a weak & grainy mess…have you had any success at all?

        • +1

          @franco cozzo:
Have tried many different grinds, volumes, and tamping. Resigned to the fact that it's going to have to be coarser than I'd like. For fine grind, any tamp results in overpressure alarm. Can get it making better shots than the brand caps, just not that good compared to nespresso or a proper machine, which is to be expected. It's not terrible considering the price, but (as always) you can make much better coffee with your grinder and an aeropress. Cheers

  • have one.
it's ok. I wouldn't brag about it or pay more than 50$ for one
