Suggests for Finance/Budgeting Apps for Personal Finance

Hi all,

Looking at a way to budget and track my spending and wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions for good software or apps they use.

I would prefer free but would consider paying a small fee a month or year.

It needs to be able to track information from my bank and also allow me to both budget and track spending.

Thanks!

  • Android or iOS? Mint is basically a consensus favourite. Tried it, was good, but didn't use it for too long (my fault, not the app's). I've also used Spendee which is also pretty good but again didn't really use it for long enough.

    • Andorid. Issue with Mint is you can't sync aussie bank accounts.

  • I like Toshl but (at least last I checked) won't pull your bank info automatically

    • +1 for pocketbook. Been using it for years and love it. Requires virtually no work as it sucks the details directly from the bank and credit card accounts but the details are always there ready when you need them.

    • Hi All,

How do you actually use Pocketbook to set up a budget? Rather then just track spending.

      Thanks,
      Ricci

      • Follow the prompts

You just say how much you spend on everything and it calculates a budget for you .

YNAB. It's not free though, you have to pay a monthly subscription fee.

However, the first month is free, so you can trial it and see how you go. If you sign up via a referral, you get another free month too.

    • Another vote for YNAB, while other tools may have worked just as well it was the first one I picked up and I really dug the philosophy and it's made a huge difference to how I approach finances.

The price has gone up, but it's free for a year if you are a student.

I find YNAB counter-intuitive being on a subscription model. I can't see the benefit to create a $5/mo sink in my wallet to create a budget and manage finances.

  • MoneyLover if you're okay with adding transactions manually
