I have a distaste for Murdoch's offerings because of the way his media outlets internationally, including The Australian, have been used as overt political weapons* (eg. Iraq war, children overboard, coverage of the last Federal election where his outlets, most obviously Sky News, seemed to be a branch of one of the major parties) for as long as I can recall, and the fact that he would like to have no competition (eg. as he does with Foxtel, hence their overpricing).

(Having said that I understand The Australian does have its merits, and I looked again at "The Daily" yesterday on the iPad and its improved hugely since its very recent launch.)

*and not to mention widespread illegal phone tapping!

ps I'm VERY HAPPY with my 87% OFF/$49pa Thu-Sun copies of "THE AGE" thanks to another Ozbargain :)

Sky news is tame compared to Fox News in America.

and the fact that he would like to have no competition (eg. as he does with Foxtel, hence their overpricing).

A while ago Murdoch slammed the BBC complaining they they are too big and dominant (I guess he doesn't know what his own Fox news is) and how they gave away news for free on the internet. Not long after that Foxtel changed their channels around moving BBC News from its position with the other news channels to another position between Documentary and Children channels.

      • "Sky news is tame compared to Fox News in America."

I agree but Sky went in the same direction during and after the last election campaign. I take it you are not a Glenn Beck fan :)

"A while ago Murdoch slammed the BBC"

… and in the wake of those complaints the BBC suffered. Murdoch also regurgitated the same complaints about the ABC through his son … imagine what might have happened to the ABC's budget if Murdoch's favoured party had won the last election!

I'd happily double my few cents a day for the ABC - wonderful value … might even be tempted to throw in a few pennies for the BBC :)
