@TarquinOliverNimrod: Yeah, same, 7-eleven have really slacked off on the freebies. No freebies for iced coffee, coffee melt, soft drinks, or $2 SIMs, for around 3 or 4 months. So I just visit once a month now to fill up with the fuel lock around 5 days after the lowest price in the price cycle, and get my free coffee, and that's it.
@nickj: you could have a second account. Lock in price and get another free coffee per month.

@supabrudda: Yeah but you also need to put in some cash to buy a 7-eleven gift card, and do a fuel lock, and you'd need to do this once per account, in order to get the free coffees, and then remember to spend that gift card balance. Plus the time needed to do this.
If you primarily are interested in the fuel locks and treat the coffees as a secondary benefit, as I do, and are pretty good at picking the bottom of the petrol price cycle, as I am, then the ideal number of fuel lock accounts:
= ceiling ( (how long a fuel lock lasts in weeks) / min (average length petrol price cycle for your area in weeks, how long a tank of petrol lasts you in weeks) )
In my case, that's:
= ceiling ( 1 / min(4, 4) )
= ceiling ( 1 / 4 )
= 1Which is why I just have one fuel lock account.
Basically you need to use quite a lot of petrol (more than a full tank per week) or live somewhere with a really short price cycle (more than one cycle per week) before it makes sense to have multiple fuel locks accounts.

Depends on who's making it. The machines and beans that maccas use are alright, but if your coffee is made by a burger tosser who's been given a 1 minute tutorial on how to make a coffee, it's not going to be much good. They do hire trained baristas who can make a decent coffee.
My locals “trained baristas” are school kids that have had like 3 training shifts. It’s ridiculous.
The entire grinding, tamping and extraction of the coffee is all automated so I’m unsure how they mess up coffee so bad.
Some people make really nice coffee on a good day, though
My local one makes fantastic coffee.
Mine have actually been good on the new roast, much better than 7-eleven. Must come down to who's making it, as the girl at the local seems very experienced.
I think it's an improvement on the original, but that's not saying much.

You could always do two different orders.
There should be a code you scan/read out if you want to claim it over the counter.

I ordered mine at the counter and they just typed in the 4 character code (which looks genetic). I got the coffee and the free coffee stayed in my rewards (it was still there a free hours later.

well I'm not picky with coffee at all, and actually I even enjoy instant coffee. But I can really tell today's free latte from McCafe was by no means close to any coffee I enjoyed before made by barista using a decent coffee machine, although it was from a decent coffee machine by look and probably it was a barista who was operating the machine.
The aroma was even weaker than instant coffee. I don't know why. Maybe it was too early and my nose and tongue wasn't functioning well at that time.

Could it be that it's free? Or didn't involve a hipster? Or didn't mentioned single origin?
Eg sudddenly wine tastes better when it's expensive. Or water tastes nicer in a labelled bottle with pictures of mountains.

I redeemed mine at Bankstown Shopping Centre, but when my number was called the staff said to me that they couldn't make it, it was an Iced Latte. How hard is it to make? The staff there didn't give me an explanation as to why, yet the staff should of done was say to me I can't make it for you but I can make something else instead, nope didn't say anything, so I just walked off. Now the offer is gone. The staff there are very incompetent of completing an order.

Considering a McCafe iced coffee is sugar syrup on sides of cup, scoop of ice, top with milk, finish with shot of coffee, I fail to see how they "couldn't" do it. Hahaha.

Thought I would pass on something I found, a HACK if you will.
Select Scan at Restaurant
Go to counter and say scanning not working, and they type in code for you
While they are typing it in, close your code and click Scan at Restaurant again(generates a new code)
Keep this code open, then scan it at Self serve kiosk to enjoy a 2nd free coffee.
