Which Toll Tag Do You Use?

I used GoVia. Now the company changed themselves to Linkt and will now charge credit card surcharges among other charges. So I'm looking for an alternative.

What are your current toll tags and why do you use it?

  • RMS E-Toll because I can’t be bothered paying monthly maintenance fees (the $40 minimum balance plus credit card surcharge sucks though)

    • Can someone explain this to me?
      I've only used my etag once. Had a $40 balance then they charged my card another $40 so I've got around $75 balance.

        You had a $40 opening deposit. You went on a toll road and it cost $5, so your new balance is $35. As $35 is under the $40 minimum balance requirement and your top-up is set at $40, they took $40 from you to add to your toll balance and that’s why it’s now $75

          I thought that but it still doesn't make sense to me why they are holding on to my $40.

          @phil1311:

          Because they said so

          @phil1311: The original $40 is regarded as a security deposit for the tag. If you ever cancel your account & return the tag, you get the $40 back

          @Ugly:

          I actually paid $80 when I first started. So $40 for deposit and $40 balance…

          @Ugly: Dunno why they insist on $40 minimum balance, but if you return your tag, you get $80 back as phill1311 says.

          The government are holding onto your $40 because they can …

    • Do the other tag companies have monthly fees? Why? And why would anyone use them if that's the case?

      • Wasn't aware there were different companies that provided toll tags and if so, what's the difference and why aren't they regulated to all have the exact same charges?

        • I knew there were other ones, I figured they were primarily for different toll roads because a lot of them are privately managed (but all use the same e-tag system). The charges for using each road is the same across the tags I'm 99% sure, but since they're private companies - I guess they can charge 'maintenance' fees if they want, I just didn't know any of them did because it's almost a perfect competition scenario: same functionality, same pricing (other than these fees), same system.

  • I don't need one in ACT because we don't have tolls but when I go to NSW I have the RMS E-Toll, i think.

    There are many more toll companies than just those listed in your poll.

    Needs public transport option

  • Do any of the multi use tags call a dual cab ute a passenger car rather than a light commercial vehicle. I pay more in my triton than a 100 series cruiser…. And is jsut for dogs and me, not commercial at all.

  • I'm in Brisbane and I use Eastlink.

  • E-tag
    Very rarely, but I do use it.
