How many times are these guys closing down?

  • alot of sizes already out

  • Is it 70% off the online price quoted, or have the prices already been marked down?

    • 70% off quoted price, discount applied at checkout.

  • Seems like they didn't restock any sizes and more like a continuation from last sale.

  • +5

still haven't even gotten my order from the last sale, which was 3 weeks ago. Have the order confirmation and nothing since.

  • +2

    Flash sale - 2 days..

  • +2

Hmmm… any way to add a second pair of pants to a suit? Can't seem to do this with the online store.

  • +1

Still waiting on my suit from last sale - they did give me a free random tie after they shipped my pocket square (lol)

    • +1

Me too. But otherwise their service has been excellent.

  • If i wear a size 36 jacket what does that convert to in R& B sizing?

    • According to their size chart you are smaller than their smallest size? 36in is about 92cm

    • Don't bother. You're too small.

They're made for a more athletic and tall man build. You will have to get the trousers altered anyway.

  • I usually wear size 38/39 shirts- 98cm-100cm chest size. The tailored and slim fit shirt range starts from 103cm. Not for me unfortunately.

  • +2

Still waiting for my shipment from last sale. According to their reps, no estimation on when it could arrive………

  • +1

FWIW, I ordered some ties, cufflinks and a cashmere scarf in the last sale and the quality of all of those is great. Not worth the original price but a good deal at 70% off. Haven't got my suit yet so can't comment on that.

Also note the condition that all purchases during this sale are "pre-orders" and will only ship on 10 August.

  • Thanks. these shirts are good and managed to get some at clearance prices.
Thinking of getting a few more but need to check my sizing again at home.

  • +2

$179 for a shirt… you guys deserve to be going down.

    • It comes to $56 or so.. when added to cart and at the time of checkout !!

    • fake news..

  • Bought another suit, hard to say no for $330. I get a good year or two out of the suit wearing them for work

    • +1

Quality suits should last you several years. Which part is wearing out? If you are wearing through the seat of your pants, get two trouser suits, ask an alterations place to install a silk saddle ($20-40), and try to get them repaired ($20-30) instead of replacing the whole suit. Don't wear jackets outdoors or while travelling if you can avoid it, and avoid dry cleaning jackets as much as possible (especially if the jacket has a fused lining, which will tend to curl each time it is dry cleaned).

      • Any suggestions of where to get the seat repaired?
        https://www.looksmartalterations.com.au/invisible-mending

I've had a little look around and most places are quoting around the $100 mark.
Admittedly, it does look like a time consuming process of taking excess threads from other areas and reweaved to fix the holes.

        • Avoid looksmart, it's crazy expensive. I haven't been to Adelaide, but look for small owner operated alterations places (some are even run in the corner of a dry cleaner), not in fancy shopping malls. Cheap places are often hidden on upper floors of street facing shops or far out in the suburbs. Don't hesitate to ask for quotes.

Edit: also, they just need to patch the hole from the inside using some spare fabric. You should get a bit of spare fabric with the suit (or from shortening the trousers - always keep the cut fabric), or you can ask them to use any spare fabric of a similar colour, or if you have a two trouser suit you can eventually sacrifice one of the trousers for material to repair the other pair.

I’ve got a very full shopping cart with a couple of suits plus lots of other shite.

    Then I read these reviews!
    https://www.productreview.com.au/p/rhodes-beckett.html

Not sure what to do. $370 for a suit is good …. but not if it falls apart

    • product review site if full of whingers..

      • But their quality genuinely has declined.

        • went in administration for a reason..

        • @stockastics:

stap putting me off from my purchsae. Man I feel like refunding

        • @smuggler: for 70% off it should be fine. If you pay RRP then you should feel bad and also give up your ozb badge

  • What is the sizing like?
I’ve got a Blaq suit on in a 92/36 which is perfect, but with the Rhodes & Beckett sizing chart, when I measure my girth with a tape, it indicates I should be ordering a 99.

    That’s a big difference in a number.

    • chest size?

      • Good idea, will go with that.

        Cheers.

Note this is a pre-order and orders will be shipped starting 10th August onwards.
I'm still waiting on my order from 9th July. No updates from them either.
    Pretty poor customer service.

    • Cancel it. Are R&B suits really worth it?

I am regretting my purchase already.

    • Ditto, still waiting on my suit from the last sale on 7 July too.

Got an email on 18 July saying sorry for the delay.

Just checked and it still hasn't been sent yet…

      • +1

Have they offered you a refund?

Something tells me they're scrambling to get their sweat shop in Asia to make the suits as fast as possible. I don't have confidence in the suit I bought anymore.

        • I've emailed them twice now.. Same auto reply.
          Offered refund once.
It's annoying that I'm the one having to request an update.
I've ordered three suits and two shirts. Haven't received any of them.

        • +1

          @wikiwiki:

It's hard to get Super 120s wool at this price. That's the only reason I am waiting for 3 weeks. Once that's up, I am getting my refund.

        • Yes, offered a refund, but given I've bought a couple of Herringbone suits (their old sister company) in the last 12 months I was going to wait for delivery.

Was hoping it was old stock, but you're right, its probably a new suit made under new conditions & with a new wool supplier …

Bugger it - I'm cancelling it now.

  • +1

This brand has gone under once, 70% off everything is hardly a brand building sale.
    Retail prices are very high.
Sale price quality is ok for the price

  • I just bought a couple of suits.

How does the quality compare to Charles Tyrwhitt and Tm Lewin's ~$350 suits?

    • Probably wait for 2 months i say..if you want to invest in a good suit then Hugo Boss is nice..

  • I still much prefer the tm lewin’s 5 for $150 deal. $30 per shirt is pretty good.

  • I ordered two blouses from the last sale, one arrived with an apology letter and a free pair of cuff links which is kind of useless to me anyway as I don’t have any french cuff shirts.
The RRP for the blouse I received was $249, and there is no way it’s worth that much. It is nice quality, but not for that price.
The shirt I didn’t get is still on the website for sale in the size I ordered. I assume it’s coming in the next shipment,
I’d never buy at full price, but 70% off its decent.

  • Just received an update from them. Expecting to ship suits out at the end of this week. I am going to get a refund if I have to wait any longer

  • Has anyone actually received anything yet from these 70% off sales?
Been over a month for me and nothing..

  • has anyone received these suits?

  • Merged from Rhodes&Beckett 70% off sale - is it a scam?

    Hi Guys

Obviously a lot of OZ bargain users have seen these two sales in July.
Have been trying to find a topic/discussion and no luck so i m starting one here.

Has anyone actually received their suits from the sale?

    any updates/input are welcome

    • If it was advertised on the R&B store itself, I highly doubt it would be a scam.

      • i thought so too. however there hasnt been a single suit received by anyone (as far as i know) since their first sale which was around July 7..

        just a bit worry.

        • maybe they are making the suits now ie sewing them one by one by hand somewhere at some remote country side in some random asian countries

        • Not sure how accurate this is, but refer to this comment from the original thread

    • where is the original thread of the deal?

    • +1

I placed an order 09/07 and received early last week! I had emailed CS toward the end of July and got the following reply:

"Thank you for your email and recent online purchase - we apologise for the delay in shipping your order.

Unfortunately we have experienced major issues at both of our distribution centres in Sydney and overseas which are affecting multiple customers including yourself. Your order will be fulfilled as soon as possible - nonetheless we understand this delay may inconvenience some customers. We have already and continue to partially ship product that is available immediately to relevant orders, where the balance will be sent as we progress through the product availability from our centres.

Naturally you are entitled to a cancellation and full refund if this delay is no longer acceptable to you. In this event please feel free to contact us on: [email protected] with your customer order number as a reference.

Once again we apologise for the inconvenience and endeavour to fulfil your orders promptly."

(This is for women's shirts, although I'm not sure there would be any difference for men's).

      • Hit the button with paypal everyone. Your stuff is not coming

    • So I purchased two shirts on the first sale posted. I got one shirt and a free pair of cufflinks after a few weeks of waiting… I emailed them last week about the status of the next shirt because I had no correspondence at all and they just got back to me saying it's going out this Thursday/Friday.

To be honest though I don't know if they would have told me that if I didn't prompt them. The email said that the person who looks after customer service is ill… but it's been weeks?

    • I don't think it's a scam, just teething problems with the new owners of the brand, (which includes poor customer service?).

R&B used to be great, but sounds like they keep getting knocked down since going bust last year. Hope the new owners can turn it around.

    • I'm still waiting.

Not concerned just annoyed at the wait.

I can always do a credit card chargeback.

  • I've yet to receive anything.
I have a feeling my pants will be too big.
I bought a 50 Jacket, but the size chart seems as though i'll be getting a size 34-36 size pants. The guy at the store told me it comes with a 32-33 size pants.
Any pear shaped guys want to swap pants?

  • Still waiting….!

  • Still waiting as well.

I reckon it’d be quicker to go to China, impregnate a local, then when the kid turns 12 throw them into a sweatshop and get them to sew me a suit.

  • Interesting, Rhodes & Beckett are deleting posts on their facebook from people complaining about their delayed orders and lack of customer service!!
    Poor form!!!

  • We need to give them a push… deleting comments from their wall is not on!!
    https://www.facebook.com/RhodesandBeckett/posts_to_page/

  • Seems like a quality organisation.

So in my lunch break I went to their flagship store at 1 Martin Place, Sydney.
Martin Place, the centre of Sydney’s CBD, and the spiritual home of “(profanity) in suits”.

    http://users.tpg.com.au/vtcalais/rb.jpg

They are closed for a lunch break, during the lunch period.

Now I’m not denying anyone the opportunity to eat food, but I would have thought being open during the busiest part of the day is a pretty simple foundation of retail.

I’d ordered a couple of suits, a few shirts and other accessories. It’s not an insignificant spend.
If this is how they run things at a flagship store like at Martin Place, I don’t hold much hope on them fulfilling my order.

  • Got the second half of my order yesterday. No bonuses thrown in like the first half, not that I was expecting it… I'm just happy I got my order.

  • +1

    Hi everyone,

Similar to everyone here, i've been waiting for my orders since June/July. Very disappointing and definitely won't purchase from them again even if it's 70% off. They're effectively a scam. They advertise a big sale. They recive everyone's orders and money. They then contact their offshore manufacturers and do a big shipment and order, then spend a good few months with people's money and then have them waiting. So really, it's false advertising at best if the online "stock" isn't real.

Charles from their customer service email support is also not very helpful. They've given me 3 dates and all 3 dates have failed to be met, and now they're saying 12th September. Clearly they're in some kind of financial trouble and are looking to get more cashflow into the business, otherwise i don't see why they would be doing some big sales without actually having the stock.

Unfortunately my confidence in Rhodes & Beckett is declining. They used to be a premium brand with premium service. Unfortunately it looks like they've kept the premium brand but the service has significantly gone downhill and their physical locations in the past few years has also reduced and it looks like they're going to go out of business soon.

I think it's time to move on to greener pastures.

    EDIT:
Mind you, their facebook page seems to have been taken down as well. More ominous signs.

    • +1

Agreed…it's been 2 months now with still no sign!

This is my latest email interaction with Charles:

Firstly, I apologise for the lack of response, which I understand only compounds the frustration.

We had a major issue with customs, and this has taken seven weeks to clear, I have been advised by our customs broker on Friday , that we will have clearance for the shirts early this week and those will be delivered by our logistics company to our warehouse shortly afterwards. We will then work to get them out to you as quickly as possible.

I appreciate that you were advised the shipment was coming two weeks ago, the simple explanation is that we all believed the goods would be cleared then, based on what our broker had been telling us, however this did not happen.

Based on the updated clearance schedule we have received we are expecting to ship your order within the next ten days.

I once again sincerely apologise for the delay.

      Regards

      Charles

  • +1

Yeah, I got a follow up to my query yesterday from “Charles” saying the same thing.

As I’ve had to use customs brokers multiple times, I can’t believe that it would take 7 weeks to clear. It just will not take that long. Customs are pathetic, but even they are more capable than that. The customs “brokerage” component is quick, as its a declaration form, pay any duties owed, and it is released.

Personally I think this is more delay tactics to wind out beyond the 45 PayPal dispute window. I’m going to start the claims process now.

    Mutha—-ker.
Looks like I paid directly with Credit Card.
Bah, this is why I don’t normally do that.

    • Yeah, i mean, if they were importing clothes, how wrong can customs get, i mean really? Unless something shady is happening, why would customs stop a container of suits and shirts?

  • +1

I only got the shirt from my order. Yet to receive my suit.
Got the same email as posted above. More delays now.

I was not in a hurry to get the suit but I would steer clear of this company in the near future unless they have deals at their brick and mortar shops.

  • +1

The thing that frustrates me (especially since I walk past their bricks and mortar store every day), is that if I were to walk in the store, select the exact items I had ordered, and said to the cashier:
“This is what I am owed, cancel my order as I have collected what I’ve paid for”, then walk out.
The store would call the police and I would be charged with shop lifting. A criminal charge, leading to my arrest.

Yet the store is allowed to take my money and not deliver anything. That is a civil matter, and the owners are not arrested.

I have been on the rough end of a store going bankrupt whilst still trading and taking my money. Had to go through the whole legal process as a creditor and got f—- all back.

    The system is broken.

  • anyone got any updates from them??

    • No. And the “10 days” is now up. I have not received a tracking number.

      • +1

Have you emailed them to get a response? Keen on knowing what they say

        • Their response today:

Thank you for your email and we apologise once again for the delay in shipping your order.

We have an update on the status of your order from our online fulfilment team.

We can confirm that the Blue shirts and accessories will be shipped to you tomorrow.

We are still currently waiting for the remaining items to complete your order to be cleared from customs.

We anticipate fulfilling the missing items within next week.

We apologise once again for the inconvenience that has been caused.

          Regards,

          Customer Service

  • +1

Anyone else notice that their Facebook page has been pulled?

    • yeah that was the first thing i checked before i posted….

  • Ive just requested cancellation of my order (and received notification of it by email).
Everything they say is a lie. Watch “very small business “ on the ABC to see how people like this juggle cashflow.

Now I just need them to refund the $900.

I’m less hopeful that I will receive it without escalation.

  • No updates?

  • No updates, other than I got my refund overnight after cancelling last Friday. I am genuinely surprised I got it back.

The CONSTANT lies were just too much.

If you’ve ever been ripped off, or had a scumbag friend owe you money, the behaviours are exactly the same.
    - Continual promise of fulfilment;
    - The situation is always out of their control/someone else’s fault; and
    - when you are getting the shits too much, they drip feed you payment/goods so that you can’t claim you haven’t received goods.

    It is classic scammer behaviour.

I too held on hope that I would receive my suits. I need a couple right away, and now I have to go and buy some.
But the reality is, I should be able to find a semi-decent suit for $400 on sale somewhere, which is not quickly punched out of a sweatshop in Indonesia, and actuality in my hand when I pay for it.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch … nor one at 70% off it would seem.

  • found that many others in the same boat

    https://www.productreview.com.au/p/rhodes-beckett.html

  • I know you want to get the goods (“it’s 70% off man. Even if I have to wait a couple of months, the saving makes it worth it”) … but seriously, try to get your money back.
You won’t get anything, and if you do, the quality won’t be there.

I liken it to the Oxford shop. Always having 60% off sales, and then have discounts on top of discounts. You can go and buy a shirt for $40, which has an RRP of $160.
But look at the quality. It’s a $20 shirt at best. Feel the thickness of a country road shirt (RRP $100), then compare to an Oxford RRP $160 shirt. Country Road is amazing and 100% cotton, compared to a thin, flimsy cotton/poly blend at Oxford.

If you are still going to hang in there, I genuinely hope you get your goods. But I certainly wouldn’t want to become a creditor of a liquidated company in the gamble of saving some money on a suit.

  • I put through a paypal dispute yesterday, I am over waiting for a product that isn't going to come

  • I emailed R&B on Tuesday 18/09/18 to cancel my order from 07/07/18. Simply tired of the constant runaround and excuses that have been given over the past 2.5 months. 3 missed promised delivery dates is not OK.
To their credit, they processed it on the same day and the full refund was on my card the next day.

  • Have cancelled the order and received the refund.
Good luck to the guys still waiting, but personally i suggest take the money while you still can and spend it somewhere else.

  • Not receiving the products was annoying enough. But the insult to injury is being constantly spammed in my inbox with “60% off” emails from R&B.

They couldn’t even deliver the items I had paid for. Why would they think I would be interested again.
(Though I must admit I have a Pavlovian response to emails with “60% off” in the subject line)

  • I haven't received any email update… but I logged onto my R&B account to find that one of my orders has been packed and booked for delivery.
Getting picked up from Collins st store and delivered to my Bourke st address. (those who don't know, it's 400m from me)
Most likely it'll be taken to their warehouse first before delivering to me.
Would be happy to just go pick it up in store.

  • Was notified that 3 of my suits were coming this week and another at the end of the month. Received only 2 today but the slip says they packed 3 suits.
Quality was terrible - it was almost like someone else had worn them before and they refurbished them for sale and the fit wasn't the same as they put on the website. I Immediately asked them to cancel the other two suits and refund my money. Please be aware when purchasing online - i would go into store to look at them first.

  • hmmmmmmmm, so the quality and the service has gone down. Looks like things are going from bad to worse.

  • I've emailed them 4 times now in two weeks… no replies.
