  • This is cheap. I only just sold my used one last weekend for $160 on Gumtree.
Comparing to GoPro - it is a big, heavy. The fisheye effect is really bad on this one.It is also strange that i need to change lens cover everytime I take it under water.
For the price, it is a worthy alternative to GoPro.

    • +1

You only need to change the lens because of the reflection underwater, there is no additional water proofing using the flat lens.

  • A good review of it here: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/olympus-tough-tg-tracker,review…

It's a shame it has such a fish-eye view… you could probably undistort it in video editing software, but its an extra step.

    • Haha yeah that fov is crazy. The effect with image stabilisation on makes the edges of the video look really strange!

Having said that, $180 for a local stock camera like this seems cheap!

  • damn I bought this a few months back, day after the clearance runout happened for $299 I think.
seems decent but yeah thenfish eye effect on the normal lens is a bit much. think I'll just leave the waterproof lens on most of the time.

  • +1

Fish eye means you can't use it underwater right?

    • There's a waterproof cover on the lens that comes with it.

      • Not that. Fisheye makes underwater shots horribly disturbed. You need a flat lens

  • I have had several Olympus cameras over the years. I thought this looked perfect until i watched some of the footage.

The fish eye effect is really distracting.

i guess i'll have to wait for a deal on the Yi.

    • Thanks fur the video. The quality of the video is top notch, but you're right about the fish eye effect. Hard to understand why the made it so bad.

      • Because, fisheye is much easier (cheaper) to make then a rectilinear. That said, 204deg is a hugely wide angle, that means that it's getting stuff which is technically behind it (at the very corners of the image).

  • No wonder it has bad fish eye effect. It's over 200 degrees FOV. Great if you want to capture everything but bad for distortion. Most sports cams are 150 to 170 degrees and they have obvious distortion. If you want no distortion you need a ~90 FOV lens. The Firefly Hawkeye S8 comes in a 90 FOV version.

  • Will this still work okay above water and how is the battery life.

We have been looking for a cheap durable video camera for family videos
