Is The Foxtel IQ3 Still Buggy/Laggy or Have They Fixed The Majority of Issues since Launch?

I was one of the original adopters of Foxtel IQ3 and sent it back after a few weeks. It was the most buggy, laggy piece of hardware/software that I've ever seen.
The remote would randomly stop working, the box would lock up, it was slow to play shows etc.
We ended up going back to the IQ2 and have had it for many years.

I was at my in-laws recently who just upgraded to the IQ3.
I had a play around with it and from what I could tell, it was quick and appeared vastly different to our last experience with it.
This box did look slightly different to the one we originally had (the remote had an extra Apps button and a few other minor differences).

Has anyone got the IQ3 and have any issues with it?
It seems that maybe most of the original issues with the box have been resolved, but I don't want to shell out $150 per box if there are still some serious issues that I couldn't see within 5 minutes of using it.

  • It’s not perfect but it’s night and day from what it was like at launch. Generally I like it now

  • Mine runs like a charm
However…. I have had to set it so it never goes into standby mode.
I found randomly when it went into standby I could not get it to turn on without a power cycle.
Other than that issue it’s very responsive and I would say issue free.

    • Actually I do remember having that same issue with the original box.

  • Dispite my warnings to my work collegue he went with the IQ3 over the IQ2 (which I have included in my Telstra plan). He has said his is faultless and I if I hadn't gone to "Foxtel Now" for the majority of my viewing I would be ordering one. ** I went to Foxtel now to get the chromecast capabilty and have left the Telstra included channels on IQ2 so I can rent movies and record when needed.

  • Main issue I've had on my IQ3 is the 60sec shutdown for inactivity warning shuts down after 30secs. Otherwise, the last update went into a repeated boot cycle, but hard powering off sorted that. I'd recommend the IQ3

I have mecool & kodi what is foxtel?

    It’s a tonne of sh*t

    • Please elaborate

  • Mine can be a bit laggy sometimes when changing between the channel information screens, particularly to the screen with the most information. And very rarely, I can press a button and nothing happens, then when I press it again, whatever I pressed happens twice.

Also, when I use the Foxtel app (on Android), sometimes I can change channels from the app, but sometimes not.

One strange thing that happened about two weeks ago is that the IQ3 decided not to allow me to watch a program that I'd recorded because it claimed that I didn't have that channel in my lineup when I recorded it. Of course, I'd made no changes to my lineup. And when I called Foxtel to get them to help me, they fixed the problem and gave me six months of some extra channels for free without me even asking!

I think those are all relatively minor bugs/quirks, though. Mostly, I'm quite happy with it.

It'd be nice to have an alternative higher-contrast colour scheme, though. White text on orange can be hard to read for us old timers.

  • Sent ours back 6 months ago.

Third base software failure, where it would turn on but nothing would happen, even after hard resets.

That doesn't count the times the power supply died or was low voltage.

Now run Fetch Mighty (@2160P) + Foxtel Now on PS4 (which is only ever 720P :( ), and never going back.

  • Mine is usable, just!

The delay in navigating menus is terrible, especially with recordings. It can take 5 - 10 seconds between each menu when looking for recordings.

The normal use is OK, the search function is woeful, you have to scroll a linear column of letters to enter your search string, takes forever to do.

In comparison to my of TiVO or the Fecth Box it lags so far behind it is shameful that Foxtel still sell the thing.

  • Mine works fine. I do not have any issues with it, and use it daily (Have had IQ3 since November last year)

  • I don’t want to sound rude or judgemental guys.. but after the internet got cool, with so many amazing cheap or even free & ad free on demand streaming services, and the ability not to watch scary brainwashing ads 24/7, why would you need to continue using and paying for Foxtel? Surely the $100 or so per month that you send to Murdoch’s multi billion dollar big business pocket, along with the possible contracts, the way the mainstream media sucks you in to watch it whenever you can instead of living a full productive life, is potentially rotting your brain, lifestyle, ability to function and financial situation? Am I making any sense? I used to have Foxtel a decade ago but that phase of my life has gone and passed for very good reason. And I say this because I care. But I am also interested to know why people still use this medium, is there a reason behind it or?

    • Supercars and Formula 1. While the telecasts are great I do resent paying Murdoch for them, but unfortunately there is no alternative.

    • Afl and other sports. There are some good things to watch. Documentaries, TV shows etc. What do you do with your downtime at night when you just want to sit back and relax?

    • AFL. No other reason for me

  • To the original question…sucks balls!

And the remote is even worse.
