Tokyo/Osaka Flights

Planning to book a holiday to Japan for 3 weeks in October (rough dates are 5-28). Wondering if anyone knows if there are usually cheap tickets for that period coming up soon. I've had a look at JAL and Qantas and they're roughly 1k return from Melb.

Cheers

Nah nobody here will know as there's never any flight deals to Japan posted on Ozbargain. I assume you have already searched for previous deals and found the same thing.

  • If possible fly into one, train between, fly out of other. Makes the most sense

    • Had a look at that option but the prices are a lot higher. Might take a budget airline back to Tokyo or the bullet train to explore some of the areas between them.
Planning to go to Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and Tokyo.

Not my first time there but my partner's so trying to do touristy stuff but also explore a bit more.

      Cheers

    I know

  • For those exact same dates:

    Phillipine Airlines (MEL <> MNL <> NRT = 17h) = $525

    Malaysia Airlines (MEL <> KL <> NRT = 18h) = $578

Personally, I'd go for the Malaysia Airlines route. KLIA is a much better airport and you can whittle away the hours in transit by exploring the gardens and then using the OzB posted Dragonpass discount catch a 5 minute train to the Satellite terminal and have a shower, some food & drink at the Plaza Premium Lounge while waiting for your flight.

    • Might consider one of those but the long transit times are a killer! Especially for a shortish holiday. 3 days gone just from flying…

      • Well yeah, you pay a premium for direct flights for that specific reason. And given October is beautiful weather for Japan, a mini peak season, it doesn't get that much cheaper then what you're seeing now

Doesnt Jetstar offer free return flights once or twice a year?

From memory comes out around Oct Nov time frame

    • We travelled in October 2016 on a Jetstar 2 for 1 sale purchased in April. So perhaps the sale for that period has passed?

    • I bought Jetstar 2 for 1 fares on the 1st of May this year. I don't know if it is an annual or bi-annual promotion though

    • One of Jetstar's Japan deals comes up around Valentines day (early-mid Feb)

Go to Tokyo for halloween on October 30-31st.

Jetstar offer is usually 3-4 times a year, promoted for each of the 4 seasons japan has. Book accommodation as soon as you get tickets.

36 degrees here in Nagasaki today

    • Unfortunately cant get that extra week of leave. Do they celebrate it slightly before the actual day? Pretty keen to see some of the crazy things they get up to!

      • しりませんよ.

always google and check for 'things to do in tokyo during october' on google. magazine websites usually have a good list.

check out tokyo digital art museum. might need to get tickets in advanced.

Halloween decorations go up all over the cities from the start of October so you'll see it all during your time as well as smaller celebrations on the weekends :)

Kawagoe Festival, north of Tokyo, is on October 20 and highly recommended. I've been going the last several years and enjoy myself each time!

      • When I was living in Tokyo, I went to about 4 Halloween parties in the one year, leading up to Halloween night. If you look around, you may be able to find a party to go to.

On the last party which was actually on Halloween night. on my walk home(past midnight) the stores were already starting to taken down the Halloween decorations and replace them with Christmas decorations!

The popular thing these days though, is a huge dress up gathering at the Shibuya scramble on Halloween night, which you'll obviously miss out.

  • I'm going in October. I wanted direct, no stop overs. About $1100 return with qantas including taxes and seat selection
