ooo this has potential, anyone worked out what the cheapest premium for 60 days??

    • Points will be credited over 9 months, in 8 equal monthly instalments which will commence after the policy has been held for 60 continuous days. To receive each instalment of the Qantas Points, the qualifying premium must remain the same and payments must be paid up to date. Not available to existing Qantas Insurance Life Protect policyholders or those who have held a Qantas Insurance Life Protect policy within the last 12 months. Offer ends 30/09/2018 but may be withdrawn or extended at any time.

      • That's for life insurance not health insurance. The life insurance is a different offer. Click on 'Disclaimers' at the top and see clause 1. "Points will only be awarded to the primary policyholder after the policy has been held for 60 continuous days"

  • Absolute rubbish, you got to pay a lot to get the points. Get a quote and see for yourselves.

Qantas health insurance is horrible value though I'd suggest people look very closely at what's included in their policies, especially if you're switching providers as most will be far better than what Qantas have on offer. 75% back on top extras cover is a joke. You'll get way better elsewhere and be able to buy an Apple watch yourself with the money you'll save in the long run.

Care to elaborate who is better value elsewhere and Ill make the switch? 75% back with choice of provider is actually pretty good. They are affiliated with NIB and I have never problem claiming for extras.

      • Yeah, I have to agree with dmac80 having previously held a NIB policy.

Whilst they’re great on technology and customer service, they don’t hesitate to jack up the cost, and downgrade the benefits - especially on extras.

For the plan I was on, which was a top-tier plan as part of a range of options under a Corporate package for the large Australian workforce of a Fortune 100; they increased premiums by nearly 25% over the space of three years, and constantly reduced benefit maximums.

Each year on the policies and increases I compared, they were at least 3-4% points higher than the industry average increase.

And because they were the only insurer that was funded under our corporate benefits package - you ended up paying for the policy out of your own pocket if you went elsewhere for health insurance.

As a result of how they treated our employees, they ended up cancelling the deal and negotiating a better package with another provider.

tl;dr: Whilst claiming with NIB is easy, they’re sneaky buggers who’ll rip you off blind when not looking. Avoid them like the plague.

      • Hey DrLobster look into BUPA ultimate. 90% back on extras (and actually 100% back on general dental up to a soft limit then 90% back unlimited). No excess on hospital stays. Laser eye surgery covered after a waiting period. Very similarly priced to the top Qantas assure plan and much better inclusions.

        • Cheers ill have a look

  • Trash offer if you're in it for a profit. It's barely break even on most policies for a <25 y.o.

  • What is the $ value of 100k Qantas points sold on the open market atm?

    • About 1.2 cents per point so $1200

      • To get the 100k points we need to get top cover plan right?

For me and my partner on top plans for 2 months

        $637.46 * Monthly x 2 = 1274.9

Seems a bit pricey just to get those points if I am correct

if you in it for the points you can get 100k for half that.. not sure if youre being silly or what

        • +1

Top Hospital, 60% extras. Doesn’t have to be the top extras.

      • At $1=$100,0000

  • Got this marketing in my email as well. Negative part of having a qantas frequent flyer account. It's a pretty poor value since you're paying for mediocre coverage, and the cost of the premiums outweigh the benefits.

Yes I agree the policies are expensive compared to other health funds. But easy points grab if you just hold the policy for 60 days. For me it will cost me an extra $60 dollars for 50k points just by switching for 2 months. But each to their own. This isn't for everyone I know but worth doing the calcs to see if it works for you.

I did exactly the same in April. 34m, wife is 32f. Switched from medibank for 2 months, paid $30 more per month for similar cover. Got 110k points, then switched back on 30/6/18 to medibank and got 6 weeks off my medibank policy. Def worth it in my situation.

Note for the people that want to do a points churn and hold it for 2 months, the points do not get initiate to post until 61th day, and can take up to 2 further weeks to actually post. If you are unlucky like me, I had to ring up multiple times to get the points manually posted. I was lucky however as we utilised the time to use up all the extras before switching as we had Physio and dentist appointments (coincidence) so we did get our money's worth.

Signed up over the phone using the random referral code generated on this page and they confirmed the extra 5000 pts (~$60 extra value) will be credited after 61 days. Easy, hassle free set up and they will also take care of cancelling my existing policy with my previous provider. Will churn back once points credited ;)

Like for like, NIB is definitely cheaper except for their Hospital Starter Plus which is exactly the same price as Qantas' Basic Plus then everything else is more expensive.
On top of the offer of referral of 5000 points, the double Qantas points, I was able to also get an offer of 2 QFF/$1 on premium payments.

Now to actually decide whether to take the points and run.

    • Thanks ajamedor. I got the 5000 referral and 2 QFF/$1 on premiums (note this only lasts for 12 months then reverts to 1:1).
