  • The rules for Drone flight in Australia state: You must only fly during the day and keep your drone within visual line-of-sight. This means being able to see the aircraft with your own eyes (rather than through a device) at all times.

So this can not legally be used. Any drone that offers remote viewing must still remain in sight of the user.

    • To legally use the FPV googles you are required to have a spotter with you that maintains line of sight.

      • where does it says this? been looking for this.

      • Taken from CASA page regarding that point:

"You must only fly during the day and keep your drone within visual line-of sight.
This means being able to orientate, navigate and see the aircraft with your own eyes at all times (rather than through a device; for example, through goggles or on a video screen)."

Maybe someone could clarify this further.

        • I must be mistaken, appears to be the common train of thought around the net and droning forums etc.. Ive heard it quite a lot, but it could be relating to other worldly regions or just a loop hole tactic people use to justify it.
Dont use googles myself so haven't looked deeply into it, also the rare times that I do get to go fly my wife is so bored that there is no way she'll ever be a spotter for me anyway.

Having said that, If I was to get this set, and I have considered it, I would be flying FPV in very open areas away from anyone or anything, and not long distances, certainly wouldn't be doing it near populated areas.

You can control the drone while a friend wears the FPV headset.

i send the disco on flights of up to 5km away of which i have no control after about 1km and it's gone for about 10 minutes. i just wait and hope it gets back. now i've just bought a battery that will let it go at least 30km each way. no line of sight there :) i don't live in a built up area though so more rural and ocean flying. I don't use the goggles but the goggles allow you to switch from fpv view to line of sight view by pushing a button on the controller and it switches to the camera on your phone and so you can see the drone. that way you can always say you have line of sight even if you have goggles on. the freeflight pro app allows you to plan flights and send it off on its own, cool but you get anxious hoping it comes back. allow for some great vids tho.

      Ze goggles do nassing!

    • oh that going to be my next toy , HEHE
good thing all i need is the plane - I've read that the bebop 2 remote work with the disco

  • Maybe is just my phone, but the goggle suck. I've only flown it with the line of sight,

    Fun toy ,

  • Aussi drone rules on a new taxpayer funded sight. Ahh my taxes at work. I am so proud, can we get a national broadband with our tax dollars? I am sure that will work out.
