Sony A6300 Vs A6500 Vs A7 III

Hey everyone,

I've been shooting photos and videos on a sony a6000 with the 35mm 1.8 lens. I have been using a Zhiyun Crane M gimbal.
I've mostly shot at parties and events but want to start moving to weddings.

I'm looking for advice to upgrade. Do I stick with APS-C or move to full frame?
The main hassle with the a6000 is that it doesnt have a mic jack and I'm using lapel mics which is super time consuming.

I won't really shoot in 4k often, but what do you think I should upgrade to?
I understand the price difference is massive but what are your thoughts?

Will most likely do 50/50 photos and videos.

  • A6500.

I have both the A7iii and a6500. I wouldn't shoot videos on the A7iii. I mount them on the hohem isteady for videos. The A7iii with a 90mm lens is almost too much for it.

    Different cameras. Why not both?

  • Might be onto something with 2 cameras - least you'll have a backup body if something were to fail

    • In the examples above, they are e-mount. Both the A7iii and a6500 can take either APS-C and full frame, although I'd be investing in full frame to use with APS-C sensor instead of the other way.

    • +1

Agree with this. 2 cameras is 'almost' a must for paid work.

Maybe get the full-frame + a fast portrait lens and keep the APSC for video.

It'll be good to stick with Sony since you're already half in there. The cool thing with having both FF and CROP + 2 lens is that you'll essentially get 4 focal lengths.
FF body + portrait lens = duh, portrait.
      Crop body + portrait lens = short-tele
      Crop body + 35mm = Standard
      FF body + 35MM = Wide

With those two lens you'll get a roughly 35mm-120mm coverage and thats pretty much everything you need without being too heavy.
Way cheaper than buying a fast 24-70mm.

Also would recommend one of those straps that holds a camera on each side of the body.
