How Do You Keep Track of an Item You Are Interested in? Say for Example an Android Tablet or Apple Earpods?

For example, I'm looking to get Ear pods as a gift for someone.

I have to take this feed link and then go to an external service and then have them alert me,

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/apple-airpods/feed

then go to an RSS to Email service like.

https://blogtrottr.com/

I have so many things on my want list, like : Raspberry pi, Ear Pods, Android tablets and more but I am having to search though and filter for non expired deals every single time, Wish there was a better way ?

It'd be so much easier if by selecting on the "Want" button, you are automatically notified when there's a deal posted for this.

How do the PROs do this ?

How Do You Keep Track of an Item You Are Interested in

Honestly I go on ozbargain like all the time, and refresh the page quite often, its more of a habit now to be honest. But because of that I pretty much know when a bargain comes up for something I'm interested in because I see every bargain that comes up.

I think I do get what you mean though, like an alert if a certain item appears on the deals page? I'm guessing it would have to be based on "alert me if these words are on the deal header or deal body" or something?

    • I do that too but when you are after 5 or 6 items doing a search every single time isn't ideal, and sometimes I forget to search for all the items.

Would also like to see a subscription to deals on interested products as well and become notified via a push notification, Email, etc.

You know you can subscribe to a search term? Search for something like "airpods", when the results come up there will also be a "create alert" button at the top of the page. Hit that, then every time a deal is posted containing that key word, you get an email. Easy.

    • This.

Can also use If this then that to generate your own type of notifications by feeding it the Rss link. Even to your phone if you know how

      • Mate I do use the RSS to Email, but I was thinking it'd be good to be able to do this within the site itself.

Since you mentioned Raspberry Pi, see this current deal of the latest version.

I add stuff to this site for most of the chinese stuff.

  • Tagging is still an issue as many deals have to be re-tagged properly by moderators after they get posted, so we can't really do tag-subscription.

An idea might be a consolidated RSS feed of all the Want products so you only need to have one free to check multiple products.

    • Agree about tagging but can you possibly enable Notifications for items we tag as "I Want"

For example Earpods is a classic example.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/apple-airpods

On this page when I click "I want" Ideally it'd be ideal to have a notification when a new deal comes up for earpods.

      • When the deals "come up" is usually not at the same time when they get tagged as OP of the deals usually don't tag them correctly — that's the reason they don't get implemented. It gets even more complicated when a post can be tagged multiple times.

        • Could more power users of the community have the ability to Tag ?
Or maybe create a different tier of power users who have the responsibility to clean up deals and implement Tagging as per set guidelines ?

This would really help everyone. Tagging and subscriptions to products will become useful and everyone will get a lot more out of the deals, especially for popular products with set names.

        • @dealman: the issue is not that there aren't people tagging, but they are only tagged AFTER deals got posted, as most OP don't tag properly.

        • @scotty:

YEs, But can't these Tags added afterwards be used to trigger the notifications / alerts. I know it won't be 100% and it could go OOS in the meanwhile but atleast it would be better than what's happening right now ?

        • +1

@dealman: Trigger is fired when the deals get posted, not when the tags are added. Otherwise we have to keep a log of all the tags related to the post and whether notifications have been fired for that or not. That also introduces issues when posts get re-tagged.

We have explained this many times in the forums in the past, on why we are not doing tag subscriptions. It's certainly something solvable but not as trivial as some think it is, and it's just not on our priority at the moment.

    • I'm not sure if this already occurs, I think I've only posted one deal so don't recall.

The site could inspect the title and body for keywords that are also common tags, and suggest the tags - and highlight the tag thing before the user completes the form to remind them to add tags. Maybe don't let them post until there are a minimum 1 or 2 tags? Same for the product.

  • Merged from Can OzBargain Notify You of a Deal ?

Just wondering I am always missing out on deals , is there a setting or somewhere I can enter the product and get notified when something pops up ?

    Thanks

Type what you want to search for in the search bar and then on the page with the results, there's a link to "Create Alert". That will then create email alerts for you when that search word pops up

    • Thank you very much 👍

  • Is it just me, or is the 'Create Alert' button not there anymore?

    *Found it.
