New Mobile and Claiming TRS

My Nexus 5x did the bootloader lock thing today and so I need to get a new phone. We go on holiday to the UK at the end of September so I believe I can claim back GST through TRS.
I'm after something with a reasonable memory and probably looking around $700 or a contract for around $50 per month (though I don't know if that works with TRS).
Can anyone offer any ideas? Oh and no Iphone thanks - not into the Apple IOS. Cheers

you can claim only on gst invoice, which mean, not on contract.

On Vodafone contracts, they issue a Tax Invoice at the start of the contract with the full price of the phone that can be used for TRS. (I don't know about other providers).

    • Memory. I like to put music on the phone and I rarely remove pictures. hinking of music, I need one with a headphone jack as well.

Pro tip - If you get one of those JBhifi deals (eg $49/month x 12months + $500 off Samsung S9+) you can claim TRS off the full price pre gift card. Paid approx 800 for phone then got $130 TRS back

    • So you mean you paid or everything (contract and phone) up front with a gift card?

      • No I think he meant other

You basically sign up for 12 months to save $500 off retail of the phone. However your receipt shows you paying retail price for phone, which is what you claim trs on.

  • Wouldn't it be more sense to buy a phone when on holiday in the UK and reclaim the VAT?

    eg LG G7 = £499
    minus VAT = £416
or in Oz = $729 with no GST
vs $859 as cheapest price here, inc GST.

I guess the warranty considerations makeup some of the difference?
